Ok here it is. I thought RAR and Winzip are one and the same.

Connected to this issue, I am having mega difficulty selecting furniture edges that are nice and straight when the furniture is curved or angled. Selecting the bounding box would be perfect but seems not possible.

Here is the file! Not altered at all. They did not let me alter the axis or anything when it imported.

3ds file was 1.7mb but when add to sketchup then became 12mb - thats worrying!

      Cheers!

    • Import model axis wrong

I cant understand why when i import a 3ds file it does not follow the sketchup axis. Z axis in 3d max should correspond to Blue in Sketchup. Also some chairs I have imported seem impossible to rotate from Z axis so that they are flat on the plane Red Green plane. Is there a why to get round this issue easily - im spending ages changing axis and getting very confused.

Thanks for that great help TIG. I also heard that components help as they are less memory than groups. Wonder if once you add one component, you can sort of Xref it for the duplicates to help speed things up. Whats an instance? - is it just a copy of something?

Not sure how to do that with a model off 3D warehouse.

Which file type is best to import furniture - dwg. 3ds. odj. - unfortunately the vendor i'm looking at don't have sketchup files.

Hi - Is there some why to have 30 odd furniture comonents and not have sketchup act like so slow?

    • Designing Layouts

Has anyone used Sketchup for design interior layout? I dont mean planning houses, more like planning restaurants or public toilets or spas. More complicated spaces.

So it would be working in 2D, and trying a few different fits till it all starts to look good.

      Regards,

    • New release very fast

I was surprised to see a new SU after less that a year is it. What you you all think about this release. Do you think they will be more regular now. The improvements are on drip feed, although 64 bit seems a biggy.

    • RE: ?Moving from command?

I can get the from point, but after typing in distance entre, the cursor appears not on the axis I was expecting. Seems to appear on the original line from the start point, even if I'm inferencing on the other end point.

Now Its stopped working. Sure you had to type something in few years ago.......

    • ?Moving from command?

I remember years ago when I was learning SU (the first time) there was some set of commands to - its hard to describe - you clicked on a point then typed "from 200" and then the point would move 200 and you could draw from that point.

I don't know how to call in in Google searches so I have to ask you all if you can understand what I mean?

    • Dwg or PDF which is best for importing

dwg is cool because can click to lines but have to organise the layers.

pdf cant click to line so not so accurate but no layer issues.

      is their another middle way?

what seems to be the best / most common for interiors do you think?

I was also experiencing the same issue after importing a massive dwg and deleting like 100 layers. Almost had to resort to sending my SU file to this thread, but turned out to be hidden geometry. Thanks Thread.

Do you think better to work of a jpg file and avoid these issues. But Dwg is so nice cos you can click to the points and its accurate.

    • RE: Camera will not keep still

YEAH, I might have used the middle mouse button, this effects the height - better be more disciplined.

But - there is one issue. Shift and "walk around'' allows you to walk sideways but oddly starts to mess up the eye height again.

Really should be a right click context to fix eye height.
