I was very surprised to see many many more render styles in the layout part of sketchup. Does that mean no point adding styles in sketchup - just wait till layout starts? Seems a bit of an overlap.

I need some wiew out of the window but not sure if sketchup will do it for me?

Dylan - is your graphics card an intergrated one.

How do you find using it with big models.

oh thanks everybody, i understand now and managed to import again from a block (im using autocad LT 2006 and seemed not to let me purge or overkill or flatten so a block seemed to work ok).

I have developed the whole thing now and I have posted it in the rendering gallery. Not so happy with it though.

I find that i have to import Cad files in mm or scale them up once imported. SU does have a small enough incrament for working in metres

I did draw to scale in mm, but when i imported it the dimensions all seemed wrong (so i used tape measure to change model scale).

Anyway i ll try all your tips now as see what happens.

    • Zooming then model disapears

I have imported a simple acad plan. Then redrew over the plan to make a SU face (a few faces actualy).

Now I want to start to model the walls etc but when I zoom into the window, the model sort of clips and disapears.

I looked at the Model info and saw that it seemed very big, so i deleted the Cad layers which reduced line count from 14000 to about 152- but still clips and disapears when zooming.

Any tips would calmm my stress in the office.

    • Curved glass panels - how

making glass panels is easy - just use line tool to draw a rectangle.

but seems that if my glass panel is curved and i use a combo of top/bottom with arc line and sides with line tool in blue axis - it does not make a face. Any ideas!

      30 mins later...........

Well after some messing about i found that it can be done with the follow me tool. Whish it was a bit simpler though.

    • Drawing irregular floor pattern problem

      sigh.......its me again.

If i am using line tool to trace out a curved irregular floor pattern (so that i can add a material to it), how to constrain all these lines to a base axis so that it will make a face. Using shift does not work as it only lets me draw squared shapes at red gree axis.

    • RE: Modeling work-flow

well i will have to try a few different ways - see what works.

Im mainly working on interiors but as i want to design with this toolas well, i was thinking that i should create a layer template to make things easier.

    • Modeling work-flow

im just wondering what common work flow you all follow with regards to building / designing in SU.
Do you use layers very early on?
Do you build a lot of elements, group them and then assemble the final thing from many groups?
Do you tend to make many many groups (for each part or model) or try to keep them to a min by adding extra faces to the main box sort od thing?
