    • RE: Design iterations

      Thank you for remembering me!
I have been busy working on interior projects that are more FF&E based, so I have not found many situations where SU could help. But now I am designing a directors desk which is essentialy a free standing element(ie: akin to architecture), I find that SU becomes very effective.
Actually one of my grumbles with SU is that it does not do enough to make the designers process easier. I could really do without having to mess about with layers and complicated naming of objects for each design iteration. My idea is that I want to design desgn desgn - then make a sort of snap shot of it, then design some more with modifications - make another snap shot, etc etc. So I might have a series of models that show my design thoughts and evolution. But without taking time out to think about layers etc. Once I have to think about layers its breaking the creative moment and it becomes more of an autoCAD pain! SU already makes it easy to play with models but it falls short in capturing the designers developments, changes of mind and curiosity. Well in my opion anyway...so far!

Anyway I will now study your model - maybe u have already answered my problem haha.

Thanks and I already itching again to see how SU can benifit my work!!

    • Design iterations

      Hi,

I often need to sketch out a few different design options of whatever im working on, to study and seek the best design.

Apart from using layers and groups which I think is an unwieldly process, does anyone know if there is another way or plug in that was created to let us designers work more fluidly.

      cheers

and the jpg of the rendering that i did. it was suposed to be in sketchy maker pen lines but i dont know what happened to the style i tried to mix.

those big squares on the ceiling are supposed to be nice simple lanterns in fabric.

    • Lift lobby model

I have made this simple interior of a lobby that we are designing. It has caused me to have a few questions about the process:-

View scene on and use layer to discover different options.

      1. I wish there was a simple way of making the interiors look lit. Its all fine having shadows and sun but thats basicaly an archi thing. Not always useful for interior designers unless you have lots of exterior windows.

      2. I imagine sketch up as a design tool, so i made different options to the base model,, for lamps and floor patterns. I put these on layers and just turned them on/off. Is this the best way?

      3. There is one fabled artist that has bee featured i think on here. He renders using markers and the style is great - i woulder how to do that.

      4. After most of the day at work messing about with this I am a bit disappointed with the end result so any tips and crits will be take very seriously.

    • RE: Living room

i like it but what detracts fron the greatness is the rug and tv bitmap. I think we can enjoy the design more if these are toned down / omitted.

incidently - is there some why of creating depth with tone and line strength in SU. Your above work and all mine so far could do with this feature.

    • RE: Hotel suite

i have almost finished the suite now. I did encounter some unknowns -

      See deluxe room 02 small
for example the translucent curtain at the end seems to have a part that is open. Its not open really and the cutain is all comprised of the undulating lines that nornally make up a curtain. Whish i knew whats causing it.

      See deluxe room 05 small.
Also in another style I was wondering how to stop SU from drawing all the curtain lines which are so close together that it creates a horrid dark area.

those 2 vertical lines in the front are part of the hidden walls in for ground - does SU not clip walls at camera if you want it to?

    • Hotel suite

Im on a bit of a roll.....

Made this hotel suite in 2 hours which was a big improvement for me. Except have not downloaded any bed or other soft seating yet.

I still have mostly gray walls even with a window to let in the sun. Why cant it look all whiter with less shadows, similar to the previous office interior post below my post.

Also its not relevant here but I had to give up trying to mirror half my TV wall panel (odd thing to front left) and every time i rotate rotate rotate through trillions of axis it still is not mirrored correctly. SU realy need a mirror tool - its so basic!

yeah i like the clean and simple feel. my attempts seem to busy so far. How to you get the ceiling so light - mine is always in shadow.

      what style to you use.

to get all that white with bits of colour, do you select a line syle only with none of the colouring styles?

    • Anyone played with autocad impressions

it reminded me of SU in the sence that it can help create sketchy presentations and renderings of 3d work, also seems similar to Layout for SU.

YES - this is what details should be like - no more boring 2D drawings. I have started on a kitchen cabinet detail but i dont think it will look as impressive as those.

anyboby know some good galleries or locations where i can view lots of details. Would be nice if some are interior orientated (i suppose there are 100s of archi ones out there already)
