RE: 2D curve wrap to surface cylinder-best method?
WOW this is one of my favorite threads in a long time.
Great info here on stairs thanks for the great tuts Jeff and all others who have made usefully posts.
Loving the stair porn link too.
I have built a few steel spiral and curving stair cases over the years and have also built railings that go on top of beautiful curving stringers with a wood top rail on the railing. My question is would you build the stringers in this thread in the shop or on site? Basically I am asking if anyone has a link or pics of these being built. Also any one have any 2D shop drawings of stringers like these that they would be willing to share?
Cheers

RE: Using Different Axes
Yes it would be nice to turn snaps on and off or control them. The interferenceing kicks ass in sketchup. It would be great to control snaps but sketchup is free. I don't see to many problems laying out what you have said and don't see any need for strange axes at this point.

RE: How to delete template in layout?
application data was hidden on my computer. If you know the name of the file you can right click on start and run a search.

RE: Spiral Stair Stringer
I would look on youtube for some tuts. There are also dynamic components and plugins that will help as well.

RE: Noob here! help needed
You also need to restart sketchup after you have installed plugins.

RE: Line tool snap to grid? Is that possible?
Would also check out the vids on youtube for move tool.

There are SKP's also. Jerry
Those shelfs look great fastech370.
You are in a very select group here who has actually build what they modeled like the thread title says.

RE: Help with Pipe along path plugin
Explode the three entities. Select all. Right click for dialog box then select intersect with model. Now you can go a long and erase the parts you dont want. You could also keep them in groups and then copy one to the clip board and then intersect with model erase group and lines you dont want then paste in place.
There are tons of vids on youtube that help out with the basics of sketchup.

RE: Boat interior rendered in Shaderlight
Nice render and model. All I can say is that motor boat is way outa my price range.

RE: Have you built what you design in sketchup?
Swing bed.
My very first sketchup model. I did every thing from the paper napkin drawings to the welding and assembly and final finishing which was for me. Only thing I didn't do was program the CNC router.
A few months after I completed the bed I saw one on the TV show worlds most extreme homes but the one in the show was hanging from the roof not free standing like mine.
We moved to New Zealand last year and shipped it here. Now we are moving back to Canada and dont have enough cash to ship it. I have been trying to sell it for a month now and have the price down to $100. If it doesn't sell in the next week I am taking it to the scrap metal dealer. Can't find a smiley with tears which I would insert here.
If I build another one some day I would like to get it anodized. I also have a few other similar designs.

RE: Drawing Steel Plates and aligning them
Ouch zip cuts. Oh well use what you've got. I once built a nice aluminum bumper for a costumer. We test fit in and he liked it. So I measured between the frame rails and centered the mounting angles on to the bumper the next day. When he showed up we mounted the bumper and the mounting holes worked out great but the bumper was out of alignment on the body by a 1/2". Stupid frame rails were offset from the body. So I had to cut the mounts off and re weld them in the right place

I think the biggest issue I face now is drawing in the direction of axes. I get turned around easily and draw shapes on the wrong planes. Is there a way to take a shape and change it to say "Front" plane?
Select the face and right click then pick align view. That will make the face you are working on directly in front of you. I would also recommend using a separate layer for each plate.

RE: Drawing Steel Plates and aligning them
Looks like a cool project speedy1.
If its going to be 1/4" plate it's going to weigh a lot.
What kinda truck is it going on?
Personally if I was doing it I would model each plate with thickness.
Are you guys cutting the plates by hand?
