I had a 3 foot model of that when I was a kid. I bet its still in my parents attic.
Looks excellent!

I'm no expert but found this this thread amazingly informative. It may not be "101" but ther eis a lot of clear information.

Some of it was gibberish the first time I read it but I frequently go back and re-read as I learn more and try to do more tweaking.
Hew won the competition with a little help from a SketchUp model, but mostly from his talent as a photographer!

Intriguing stuff
You can re-oreient the access to the plane of your imported drawing if it is off.
Axis tool and you click on the borders, it shouldn't be off if you imported it to a standard (on axis) face.
You can lock the inference by the ctrl key too (??)
I have got frustrated with this on occasion, your tracing away thinking everything is fine and no faces form.
Are you facing straight down at it?
If you stick to the the top view looking down and don't rotate it will should quite well.
Unless your are tracing an elevation then the standard SU views seem to help.
I am not familiar with the particular Queen's bed chamber but it looks quite formidable.
Bravo! Despite the rancid mirepoix.
That looks amazing, I am going to DL the latest version and give it a go.
How may lights can you control?
I was guessing it may be that the spiral was precisely formed.
I'm trying but I still can't get it.
Hi Frenchy,
I used that when I set up the model. Also tried flipping the normals on the shaped ends, various options in the dialog box, its not behaving like I thought. Driving me crazy
I am having some difficulty with this shape. It is a spiral with a shape, and it tapers as it it travels down the spiral.
I thought this plug would work but I am getting odd results.
Any ideas?
Thank you for all,
I actually started using SU for GE but moved on to other uses as I got better at modeling and doing more complex things. Its actually fun to get back to some very simple models.
The Carnagie Libraries offer many types of architecture to choose from. It takes a little detective work to figure out the geometry of some of the buildings, but between GE, Street View and the large collection of photos we received they come together fairly quickly.
Thanks for your support Gaius!
We have had light snow in Michigan this year but are looking for 6-10" here today and tonight.
I am originally from where it snows a lot, it's fun to watch them struggle around here without the right equipment.
Very cool,
Was the large square opening originally covered or world it have been open to the sky?
Not the best quality but I have never seen a meteorite last this long
Ouch, I would check for an update on the driver for your graphics card.
Others may have ideas but that is where I would start.
Interesting and lengthy discussion at CG Society

Thereâs no point It doesnât tell a story, itâs not advertising anything and itâs certainly not pretty. What exactly is the viewer getting from this? Nothing makes me close the window faster than a piece of art with no clear objective.
You use pre-made content Stock models are great for studios who want to save time and money by purchasing a pre-made model. But it has absolutely no place in your portfolio. Personally I find no pride in showing someone a render that I havenât created entirely by myself, but thatâs just me. If you donât know how to model it, why not learn?
Youâre copying something far more successful I love Wall-E as much as the next guy, but that doesnât mean I try to mimic what a professional studio has slaved over for years on end. Why? Because unless itâs an uncanny comparison (which it wonât be) viewers will only spot itâs flaws.

Lots to think about and some strong opinions.
What do you folks think?
