Well I played with it a while on my son's Chomebook and I must say it was pretty smooth. I built a small house exterior and noticed no slow down at all. I will do a bit more playing with it but so far it seems to be a great addition.

@unknownuser said: You can publish your SketchUp models to eDrawings files that can be packed into a self-executable (.exe). That means there is no Mac version (i.e. not cross-platform). Even worse, their html viewer (as far as I remember) only works in IE so there is not even cross-browser compatibility (although I cannot spot any info about this on their site ATM). There are a multitude of 3D viewers with much-much wider range of browsers and OS platforms. Also, many people are paranoid to launch exe files (and in many corporate environments it is not even allowed for users) so if you really want to publish something, I would go for 3D PDF instead.

@unknownuser said: But where did you get the templates from (black-white-pictures of these houses)? Can you share the source please? I really would like to model a house like these ones. I returned the book to the library, it was a pattern book from the 1880's. I will try and find the name for you, will also try and dig up some similar links. EDIT: Here you go forgot about this gem http://www.collectibleblueprints.com/Index.html Happy modeling The original book (no preview) http://books.google.com/books?id=S9M4iitfUfoC&dq=Village+and+country+residences+;+and+how+to+build+them+/+S.B.+Reed&hl=en&ei=xMTlTPPnFoq-nAfIiO3RDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCUQ6AEwAA

Wow, huge improvement here. Great job. Here's the new C&C Something weird going on with your handrail in the foreground there. On the left side it's very wide, then it seems to bypass the middle column and also gets really really thin. Not sure what's going on...reminds me of an M.C. Escher. Grass is always hard. My tip, if you're going to do flat grass like that it to do some photoshop work to break it up. What really gives away the fact that the grass is a flat plane isn't so much the middle where you just see grass but rather at the edges where the grass meets the sidewalk, for example. What I do is use the Clone/Stamp tool in Photoshop to clone some nearby grass and then change the brush from the normal round brush to an image of a few blades of grass (if you're using Photoshop there's a standard brush that works perfectly - if not you may have to create one yourself). Basically you just paint that along the edges where grass meets sidewalk and it fools the eye. [image: 01b.jpg] [image: 01a.jpg] I'm not sure what material the road is. I'm guessing brick? Maybe some more variation and the coloring seems like maybe it's off. -Brodie

Well if there's a student in robotic and/or computer vision, I have a challenge: use an iPhone to do exactly the same think regarding modelling interior of buildings. I'm sure it can be done (well I have just a doubt about having the model in real time). And if you have it, please contact me, I know someone within the firm I'm working with who would be interested. To come back to the solution introduced here, it's disappointing to see so much technology to do what is done for a while with less. Robots have used LIDAR and cameras to model their environment and locate themselves for a while. Hopefully they want a resolution that only a laser can provide but I think with today's technology we can achieve the same resolution with cameras (according you are not looking for one under a few millimeters). Just to make my point regarding the fact that only a camera is enough: have a look at the following commercial services I know http://www.arc3d.be/ , http://www.cogent3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82&Itemid=86 . I had also several papers from academics on the topic. But still nothing from someone creating the 3D model of an interior environment with a Smartphone

Cool I'll have to check those tools out. For now I just used a file renamer to prepend the subfolder name into the file names, then I used suction to pull all the files into a single folder, then I installed sketchup on a virtual machine and loaded & saved all 11k or so textures in one full swoop. Then I threw the files back into their subfolders and copied the folder into the main sketchup directory on my original OS. Everything is now loaded and works a charm, so looks like I should be good to go for a while My main OS is due for a re-image, it's been a while and is getting buggy, just haven't gotten around to it, so it turns out that was the culprit.

@olishea said: mate less foreground and more sky would look better. you can also use the tree lines to create interesting foreground shadows...just place the tree line behind the camera and make sure the sun shines through it Good point, I'll see what I can do. I've got two tree between the sun and the building, trying to get the shadows to play across the front. Olishea those tree lines are very useful, much easier than stacking trees forever! thanks again

The glow doesn't travel too far. I experimented with a few locations but settled for less flash on the sign. It did lead me to an interesting quandary of sorts. Should the render look like a photograph-- or what your eye can see. They are different things especially at night. ?
