    • RE: Site Survey to 3D mesh?

Cloud.rb works quite nicely. I have used this where a surveyor gave me an autocad file with just elevation points in it rather than contour lines. As Anssi says, if you can get your points in a text file, you will not need to make all the lines in Sketchup.

I am just now working on a project where I have created the exact same kind of flare out. Thru paint works perfectly for the texture.

    • RE: Measurement Plugin

1001Bit has a point to point tool in its collection. It does exactly what you are asking for. I'm not sure if it is in the free version but definitely in the paid version. A very useful tool.

    • RE: Exporting to Dwg

Dave, Option 2 also works but for me it is always a question about the number of steps. If I have to do something 10 times and I have 2 extra operations times 10 iterations, I have had to do 20 extra operations. Again, there's the lazy guy syndrome. I'm always assessing the number of mouse clicks.

Kris, I need to go to Autocad in 3D as a step to an acis (sat) file. Nothing to do with 2D drawings for which I think Layout is great.

    • RE: Exporting to Dwg

That definitely works and that's exactly what I'm doing now as a workaround. I needed 8 exports yesterday for my current project and being basically lazy, I'm trying to streamline the process.

    • Exporting to Dwg

I have a continuing need to export to Autocad (3D). The export function works just fine. The issue is that the whole model is exported even if part of it is hidden or layers are turned off. What I need to do is export only what I can see or what I have selected. I have searched the plugins but don't find anything relevant. Perhaps someone more observant or clever can suggest a solution.

That the moderators of this forum show unflagging patience in dealing with the multitude of questions which are about to appear as to why the plugins don't work in 2015.

Thanks in advance for your generous help (and repeating the help for the thousandth time).

    • RE: Time to celebrate SketchUp! Revit reps walk out!

The US isn't the only country using the imperial system. In Canada, we use both.
      The surveyor works in metric.
We order concrete in cubic metres.
We order gravel in cubic yards.
      The house is built imperial.
If it is a commercial or government job, it's probably built metric.
Most of the common materials are imperial since a lot are exported to the US or imported from the US.
Canada tried switching over to metric 30 years ago but never carried through because most of our lumber and plywood is exported to the US.
My son was only taught metric in school and didn't know anything about imperial measurement when he came onto our jobsites in the summer.
I don't have a problem with either system but it would be nice to use just one.
      Keeps you on your toes.

    • RE: Layout to DWG/DXF: can it really be done?

      Edson,

The most obvious problems would be -

      1. The linework is exported as black or white. Depending on the colour of the background in Autocad, it would appear that there are no lines but in fact they are there. Open the layer manager and change the colour of the layers that the lines are on.

or 2) The lines are off in the distance somewhere. Do a Zoom-All or Zoom Extents to see if the lines appear. #1 still applies to this instance.

The fact is that you will have do a little clean up in Autocad to make sure your file is useful to your consultants. This is not going to be a totally automatic process.
