    • Frequency of Bugsplats?

I experience bugsplats several time a day, sometimes several times per hour. I use no other cad program which does this. I realize that some plugins contribute to instability and thought that I had eliminated the troublesome ones. I"m just doing normal things, moving, copying etc.. The crashing does not appear to happen while I'm using plugins but rather while I'm using native tools. My question is - Is my experience typical or not? Does anyone have a stable use of SketchUp?

    • RE: Plug in for LenX, LenY, LenZ

      Box,

Unfortunately, the Entity Info window doesn't show what I want. Only a single length, area or volume. It doesn't give dimensions for a whole object. It would be nice if it did.

Dave has pointed me at a plugin that seems to do the job.

Good point for the axes check. I would also like to have the dimensions displayed so I know the material size is correct and know the length.

    • Plug in for LenX, LenY, LenZ

I have looked but can't find what I'm looking for. I work with timber frame and need the axes to be correctly oriented so that when I run "Generate report", the information is not garbled. It would be convenient to click on an object and have the LenX, LenY, LenZ displayed as a quick check that the the axes are correct. Anyone have any thoughts?

    • RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion

      Question for Sonder,

Further back in this thread, you mentioned that you supply coloured drawings to the owner, builder and for the permit set. The other plan sets would presumably be greyscale. I am wondering how your details sheets read when printed in greyscale. The coloured details are very clear but the distinction in the materials may not be so clear without the colour. Perhaps you could post an example.

    • RE: Hello from the UK

      Andy,

It's great to see fully developed drawings coming from SketchUp. I am also a long time Autocad user but after seeing Nick Sonder's videos am working on migrating to SU. While I am principally a timber frame designer, we are doing more architectural design work as part of our process. The difficulty I have is that SU is not particularly friendly with regard to creating the initial floor plans. Maybe this is a result of how I go about things but I would like to hear how other people go about the initial design work. Once the line work exists, creating the model is relatively straightforward but at present I find laying out the initial design, rooms sizes etc. is easier in Autocad. Comments?

    • Bmike, timber frame & CNCMike,

      Mike,
Your timber frame work is exceptional. I presume that although the timber frame rubies are set up to produce drawings for hand cutting, that you must produce designs for firms which use CNC for doing their cutting. The software with which I am familiar (Cadwork) really needs a sat file for import. Since SU's solids are not really solids and there seems to not be a easy method to convert the objects to true solid objects, do you have a clever method to deal with this?
