Wireframe definitely.
Just for the record though, I made a good second row in my younger days.

"So, you don't believe that a 3D model exists??!!"
Well...we haven't actually seen one yet??!! A picture would do. You don't have to gave away any of your undoubtedly hard won secrets.

"A 3D model exists. Promise!"
This is impressive. Can we see the model?

RE: CadMouse
This looks very interesting but you can't actually buy one yet. No date for when you can. Personally, I find this kind of marketing frustrating.

RE: Middle Mouse Button & Laptop
I'm going to return the mouse. The 3d connexion mouse looks very interesting but for that kind of money, I would want to hear from someone who has actually used it.

RE: Middle Mouse Button & Laptop
Thanks for the info. My wife stole my laptop to use as a tv this evening so I will explore the solution tomorrow. I have read a number of threads that says the M560 scroll wheel is not assignable as a middle click but you seem to have achieved this or am I misinterpreting something?

RE: Ballooning File Size
There's an extra l in your link but a search for 'texture resizer' finds the plugin. A useful tool to be sure. Some clever people solving the endless examples of bad modeling. Thanks to all you smart guys.

Middle Mouse Button & Laptop
I have a new laptop and my middle mouse button doesn't work (Logitech M560). The touchpad has a Synaptics driver and the mouse driver is a generic hid compliant one. In control panel there isn't an option to change any settings for the scroll wheel other than scroll speed. I obviously need a different mouse driver but don't know how this will affect the touchpad. Before I install the Logitech mouse driver and wipe out my touchpad, maybe someone knows how this should be set up?

RE: Ballooning File Size
Good suggestion. Just installed it. Definitely quicker than my drag and dropping. It certainly shows my errant materials.
-
RE: Ballooning File Size
I dragged and dropped the textures into a new collection and it became immediately clear what is going on. 7 textures over 2 MB, 14 textures from 1 to 2 MB,15 textures from 250 KB to 1 MB, the rest from 2 KB to 1 MB. Some housekeeping is in order. Amazing how those little things add up. You should learn something new every day...guess I'm good for today.

RE: Ballooning File Size
So... is there a quick way to get the file sizes for the materials in a model? Examining each texture could be a bit of an arduous process.
-
RE: Ballooning File Size
Thanks all for your comments. I had the same thought this morning about the texture size for the materials. Surely the number of materials may be an issue but more likely is the size of the materials themselves.I have never looked at all the materials to see if they were bloated in size. I will report back.

Ballooning File Size
I noticed that my current model had reached an unexpected file size. I looked at the preliminary model and it was a great deal smaller. The first basic file is 4,527 KB (on the left side of the jpg). The model with the materials applied is 45,708 KB (on the right side of the jpg). The models are basically the same with regard to faces, edges, components, groups etc. The only difference is in the material count. I have used "purge unused" on both files and the above is the result. Does the application of materials create such a heavy result to the file size or is something else going on here?

RE: [Plugin] FredoTools - v4.5c - 24 Jun 24
Okay, fixed. The options bar wasn't showing up because it was behind a floating toolbar.

RE: [Plugin] FredoTools - v4.5c - 24 Jun 24
Feeling kind of dumb here but I can't see how to select both the front and back faces of an object while using ThruPaint. Most useful tool by the way.

RE: DWG Import Missing Layers - AutoCad Dynamic Components
Just ran my procedure and all the linework comes into SU. However, once in SketchUp, one of the problems with the dwg import presents itself. This is not a complicated plan yet it generates 226,000 edges in the SU model. This is why I take out all the extraneous objects, hatching etc in Autocad before importing. It's never a straightforward import.

RE: DWG Import Missing Layers - AutoCad Dynamic Components
I could not get the fridge blocks to import. If you look at the window after the import has finished the dwg import, it says 141 anonymous blocks were not imported. These blocks include the fridge block. Sketchup doesn't like this block which has some attributes to flip it in Autocad. I exploded and redefined the fridge block in Autocad and then it imported fine into SU. My experience is that I rarely get a 100% perfect dwg import into SU unless I do some exploding , purging and cleanup in Autocad first. You may have to accept the fact that you're going to need to draw some elements yourself in SU if you're not able to do the cleanup in Autocad first.

RE: [Plugin]EASYsketch KitchenDesigner looks awesome...
What is fair depends on your point of reference. With regard to EASYsketch, if I was doing kitchen design all the time, their price as presented is fair (even if I dislike the subscription model). If I only need the plugin once a year, then it is too expensive for my purposes. As Sketchup progresses, we are seeing the emergence of a number of plugins which are quite sophisticated and cost accordingly. My basic comment is that if the price was cut in half for some of these plugins, would they sell twice as many? The basic problem is that the pricing model in the past for Sketchup plugins has been that they are cheap. Plugin developers certainly deserve to be paid for their work but they have to make the guess as to the how much they will sell at a given price. Bottom line is that the price of some of the newer plugins is too steep for my purposes.

RE: [Plugin]EASYsketch KitchenDesigner looks awesome...
I guess Sketchup has hit the big time now as a number of the plugin developers have set their pricing to the high end and latched onto the subscription model. This is disappointing to say the least. I am not commenting on the worthiness of EASYsketch (which looks to be a very useful plugin) but rather the economic model which appears to generate these prices. I am also not against the plugin developers getting a fair compensation for their efforts but perhaps a better analysis of the expected units sold against the price would illustrate that the price level could be set lower. There are now a number of plugins now which cost substantially more than the yearly fee for Sketchup. This is becoming a deal breaker for me.
