A complete changelog would be nice. Some of my own rubies are throwing errors.

RE: SketchUp 2018
Changelog... seems like the previous leaked page was true after all.

RE: SketchUp 2018
@chrisjk - I would like the Named Sections, Filled Section Cuts, Fast Sections and DWG Import in Layout.
Not sure what to make of 'Scaled Vector Drawing'...

3d resources; Poly by Google
Google introduced a new platform/library - Poly- for (low) poly 3d models for use in AR and VR apps. Lots of nice stuff there already so great resource for people. You can download models in obj - just as long as you credit the maker of the model.

RE: Was told sketchup is bad for 3d printing
I made a few models for 3d printing (even for a HQ expensive 3d printer) with SketchUp and it works fine. I don't see any problems there.
Maybe the shop ran into people that didn't have much experience and made 'bad' 3d models?!
What kind of models do you intend to 3d print? Why not just try making your model in SketchUp, 3d print and analyze problems if they occur?

RE: Viz Pro 2.0 Parametric Modeling
@fluid said:
It's not possible yet, but it sounds like something that might be pretty useful.
I think it could be. Your functions really add another dimension to the native functions in SketchUp. If it would be just as easy to apply them to objects as the native functions (without the need for opening your parametric graph scheme) that would make users like me happy I think.
Also, something like this could help users, who don't have any programming skills, make their own 'plugins' by just connection nodes and methods in your parametric graph. Once it works fine, bind the complete parametric function to a keypress and happily use your own new plugin from then on.
Way more easy said then done probably...

RE: Viz Pro 2.0 Parametric Modeling
WoW! I tried the first version of Viz a while ago but the plugin has come a long way!
A question; is it / would it be possible to map a parametric function to a key-press (or button) so you can select a few objects, key-press = run a parametric 'script', select something else - key-press etc..?
Like this it would almost be just like you apply any other regular SketchUp function to an object. -
RE: [Plugin][$] Profile Builder 2
same with PB and Artisan.. must be bought-plugins-with-multiple-email-accounts-problem again...

RE: SU crashes on start (GTX1080ti)
there was a recent Nvidia update (I think last week) that fixed the anti alias problem I had with SketchUp 2017 and my gtx1080 (non-ti). Can't hurt to look again if you're running the latest drivers. Just dotting the i's...

RE: Sketchup to Oculus Rift DK2 Workflow

seems that nobody is interested in that theme.
To me its a bit 'strange' using an Oculus to view stereo pano's. You could do that with a fancy phone and Google Cardboard.
May I ask why you want to use the Oculus for this instead of investigating a nice workflow getting your models into Unreal of Unity? -
RE: Sketchup to Oculus Rift DK2 Workflow
@Jo-ke I only use the touch controllers with the Oculus. I have no idea if it works with the default Xbox controller.

RE: Sketchup to Oculus Rift DK2 Workflow
@Jo-ke My advice would be to start learning Unreal or Unity. Just using a rift for viewing pano's is a bit of a waste.
A free (and fun app) is Google Earth - prepare to waste some time flying around. For people who have made citymodels in the past its really nice to see what they can do with algorithms alone nowadays.
For more wasting time try RoboRecall! A great shooter. If you bought the Touch as well its free. Also a bit of fun is 'TheLab' from Steam. I can go on...

@Filibis Thanks for the link! I saw the announcement but missed the webinar itself. Will be an interesting view!

RE: DISPLAY ADVICE
For a few months now I'm using a dual monitor setup with an Eizo flexscan ev2750 an my main monitor. Its 2550 x 1440 and I like it a lot. Too bad my second monitor is using a different resolution 1920 x 1200 so when dragging windows from one to another the window changes in size.
Menus and icons look good to me - not too small (see pic - resized from 2558 to 1600 width due to forum image limitation). Never used an even higher resolution so can't say anything useful about that.
Edit: added a picture showing the scaling issue when using monitors with different resolution (windows 7)

VR + Google Earth = win
For those with a Vive or Oculus: definitely check the new and free Google Earth app! Its really fun!
Edit: see more here

RE: Games Engine Alternatives
At the moment you have a few options going from SketchUp to Unreal;
-
export as obj and import into Blender for creating a second uv channel. The second uv channel will be used in Unreal to store the lightmaps (shadow, color bleeding - all the nice pre-calculated stuff).
-
export as fbx (or obj) directly to Unreal and use Unreal's option to create the 2nd uv channel (create lightmaps-option during import). This only works well for simple basic shapes.
-
export as fbx (or obj) directly to Unreal and only use real time lighting and effects. If I remember correctly, the KiteDemo (2015) was done entirely with realtime lighting.
I haven't tried this route (yet) so don't know it this will work for interior scenes as well.
For KiteDemo see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwuFd5uK_xQ

RE: Sketchup subscription
I hope this is a joke. I want to be able to decide if an update is worth my money or if I can stick with the current version because not much has been added that's actually worth it to me.
Subscription = ea$y option that mainly benefits the shareholders and not the users.

RE: Realtime ArchViz: SketchUp to Unity Workflow
Interesting to see your process & Unity (just saw the first video). Looking forward viewing the other two.
