if you zoom way in where the two faces won't fuse as one, you'll notice there is a kink along the edge.. they are two separate faces because they do not share the same plane and you will not be able to join these as one.. if this stuff happens to you alot while drawing and the kinked sides aren't intentional, you'll have to pay a bit more attention.. use the inference locks and zoom in if you have to.. also, try to make sure each connection is clean before moving on to the next step in order to avoid even bigger problems later in the drawing.

RE: Useful MAC Apps and Hardware [Ongoing Updates]
sticky windows looks great... that's right up my alley.. the download is crazy slow (75kb/sec) but i'll try it again later..
thanks. -

In your .skp you mention choice "J". I don't have that listed in my PullDown menu.
Has there been newer release of the ruby or is this a typo?
"J" is what it says on the tool icon if you have it turned on... there are two icons- both with a push/pull looking graphic and one has a J .. the other has a V

i suggest you order it with as much RAM as you possibly can.
i suggest you fill it up as well but i strongly suggest you don't order said ram from apple.. they are horribly expensive... owc has been good to me over the years ->
http://www.macsales.com/and there are a few other reputable mac ram dealers out there..
[edit] -- out of curiosity, i compared prices and found apple upgrades an imac to 4gb for $850 while owc sells the same thing for $100...

gaieus.
you can also try select all then intersect with model.. after that, you'll be able to delete the seam..

RE: 2D Graphic from SU
i've never printed a sketchup drawing that large so take this for what it's worth.. i do however have photos printed at 20x30 fairly often.. with those i'll submit 16bit tiffs at 6000 x 9000px which have been uprezzed with genuine fractals.. it's a huge file size and i think it would be unnecessary for a sketchup print..
one thing you could try is to export a jpg out of sketchup at 5000 x 7500 which will give you a resolution of 250 px/inch... if i were to go that route, i'd save the jpg with anti-aliasing on...
personally, i'd export a jpg out of sketchup that's bigger than needed.. maybe even something around 10,000 x 15,000 and then take it into photoshop where i'll be able to get the proper profiles attached and have more control over the anti-aliasing upon my downrez.. still, i'd keep it a jpg and the final target size would be around 5000x7500..
[edit] -- like i said earlier, i've never done this before but i'd also look into exporting a PDF instead of a jpg.. i'm pretty sure the pdf will be a vector image instead of raster which may/may not lead to a better print.. someone here probably has better info on this..

RE: Valentine's for Men?
socks.. a completely new collection of socks.. donate/throw away/dog toy/burn all the old ones and replace them with freshies.. two styles of 12 each should do it..
ahhh.. that's 2 months worth of pleasure for under $30..
but hey, i'm easy to buy for..

RE: Modeling a pagoda roof
yeah solo, that one looks quick..
i haven't studied 1500 year old japanese roofs so i'm not quite sure of the traditional shape.. solo's method leaves the flared ends flat while the method i used has them as curves.. use whichever you need..
i video captured a different version being drawn.. this one has the middle as flat with only the corners being flared up.. pointy up top too..
it's really a video to highlight TIG's new and improved invertselection.rb which can be found near the end of this thread... time_saver! check it in action at 1:45 into the video..

RE: Modeling a pagoda roof
i can't quite tell from that picture but i think the entire surface may be dished? if so, maybe something like this?
[edit - okay, if i read the top post more clearly, i'd see that you did say they were dished ]

RE: Modeling a pagoda roof
attached is a 12 scene step by step on drawing this..*
*disclaimer - this is simply the way i drew it.. there might be better or faster methods.. use at your own risk.. also, the explanations might not be as clear as possible.. let me know if there's any confusion..

RE: In Development: Subdivide and Smooth
wow, you got That from That.. great..
most of the stuff i do is wooden structure but i also do some concrete work.. i try to use each medium to its advantage which in turn leads to different style designs.. your plugin will be excellent for the concrete stuff where organic shapes are much more manageable...
do you have an e.t.a. by any chance?
thanks
fwiw, i was able to fix that bad spot in the first picture i posted here.. i managed to ditch 2 of the three soap skins and the rest of the model is moving along nicely now..

RE: Modeling curve scuplture
ha.. man, i was just starting to get my head around what's actually going on with this shape and was about to start trying out the proper curves... then i open up this thread... i'm throwing in the towel after seeing knotplot..
check out this project..

RE: Modeling curve scuplture
here's my Super rough first try... i went around the thing too many times... 2nd try should be easier and i'll try smoothing out the kinks..

RE: Improved Mapping System
@remus said:
couldnt you do that with projected textures?
hmm.. maybe you can? it's worth a shot though i don't know how much control you'll have.. i wonder if pibuz is still reading this.. maybe he'll try it out and post the results..
if it does work, i can imagine it would be an awkward and longer than necessary workflow.. personally, i don't see the need to implement it in sketchup but if the plan is to eventually have it do full blown renderings, then maybe..
