is starbucks the macdonald's of coffee?
i definitely wouldn't say that.. mcdonald's sells low quality food where as starbucks is actually putting out a good product.. many will say they over-roast their beans but that's where opinion and taste come into play.. regardless, the actual berries are good from the start and it's not like they are trying to polish a turd..
7eleven, dunkin donuts (and many others) on the other hand sell a lot of flavored coffee (hazelnut, vanilla, etc) which helps disguise the bad beans and/or allows many would be non coffee drinkers to enjoy a cup.. they've taken that a step further now and are selling 'bold' coffee.. the problem is, it's not like they are using a higher quality bean, they are just applying a 'bold roast' flavor to their normal stuff in the same manner they would do hazelnut..

Yes, but the term 'coffee shop' here means pot shop, a place where you can smoke weed.
A real coffee shop is just called a cafΓ©.yeah, i know about you guys.. i was trying to make a little joke..

RE: Joint Push Pull Classic (Old version) - v2.2a - 26 Apr 17
[EDIT] daniel posted the latest update while i was typing this reply.. iconsformac2 are correct..
i switched to the first icons and they worked ok..
the new pngs display as sharp in all other apps except sketchup.. i compared the blurry ones against the sharp ones in PS and found the image sizes are different.. i changed the blurry J & V files to the following size..
..and now the new icons look ok..
it's a strange thing to me because the new icons are all 24x24 px.. it's just the resolution and wxh are set different but i would have thought they would display on a monitor according to the pixel size alone..
fwiw - the blurry icons are set to 24 x 24 px... .08 x .08 inches .... resolution 299.974.. -
RE: Dimensions
yes.. all the time.. i use sketchup for real world working drawings so of course i use dimensions..

RE: Tape measure in cm
go window-> model info -> units.. set format to decimal and then you'll be able to choose mm, cm, ect..

RE: Joint Push Pull Classic (Old version) - v2.2a - 26 Apr 17
that's great.. i like the feel much better than the first one.. it's faster and more intuitive for me..
a couple of the tool bar icons are showing up blurry.. any idea why?

The 'American' (United states) way of making coffee is actually correctly termed Percolate.
gotcha.. i wouldn't even know that term if it weren't for my great grandmother's percolator... uses one to this day.. old school

What do you men by a 'regular american style brew'? im obivously under the false impression that there is only instant coffe and ground coffe...
i mean ground.. brewed drip style..
the reason i say american style is because the u.s. is the only place i've ever been (and i've been to 6 continents) where if you ask for coffee, you're gonna get exactly that.. everywhere else i'll get instant coffee or espresso..there's even a lot of places in the u.s. (cuban, vietnamese, etc. communities or restaurants) where you have to order a cafe americano if you want something other than a small dose of potent mud.. americano being espresso mixed with hot water..
[edit] - that said, i rarely ever go with an americano.. if i'm in miami, i'll always order a cortadito.. that's a cafecito (espresso made with sugar instead of sugar being added to espresso) with a little steamed milk on top.. highly recommended..

RE: Starbucks now also in Holland
oh, and i'm not necessarily on the starbucks bashing crew.. they save me plenty while i'm working in a not so big city... towns where people think 7eleven has good coffee ...
when i'm at home though, i have my little spots throughout the city where i can pick up a good cup beside starbucks.. i'll walk a few extra blocks past a starbucks to get to the non corporate spots..
even then, i'll still hit up a starbucks in town every so often.. (i went to one today)i've never been to holland but i've always imagined great little coffee shops there.. no?
[edit] actually, the few times i've been to europe (oslo & brussels), it seemed as though most people drink instant coffee... it was sort of easy to find espresso but a regular american style brew was impossible..

RE: Modeling curve scuplture
tried one with cheetah.. just using the trial version for now (everything works normal and it doesn't expire - you just can't save anything.. this is a screen shot)..

RE: Difference in angular precison between Windows and Mac OS
as an example.. i used the protractor and entered the degrees in the vcb... i then panned very far away from the original point and zoomed in... you'll see that the lines were able to be drawn more precisely than .1
-
RE: Difference in angular precison between Windows and Mac OS
i didn't know that about windows..
one thing i noticed with osx sketchup is you can get more precise than .1 if you enter the angle in the vcb..
for instance, use the protractor to create a guide line at 25.1 deg.. now do it again but enter 25.15 in the vcb and you'll see both guide lines albeit very close to each other.. if you try to measure the angle of the 25.1deg line, it will show correctly but if you try to measure the 25.15 deg line, it will show up as ~25.2...so yeah, the ability to measure angles at smaller increments is there so i'm not sure why osx won't display the angle more precisely

RE: [Tutorial > Modeling] How To Create A Potato Chip
i'm pretty sure the ridges are like green toasters.. otherwise, the chip would break in half too easily while dipping...
here's a pringle's style chip..
basically the same thing you did with and extra curve thrown into the mix..

RE: PP a component -- unexpected results
fwiw - i've attached your drawing with a 3rd scene added to it.. it's the same rafter you've drawn but i've exaggerated the mistake to make it more obvious as to what's going on..
-
RE: PP a component -- unexpected results
the rafter isn't square... use the protractor on the end you're trying to extrude and you'll see that one angle is 90.5deg and the other is ~89.5.. these are miniscule amounts which makes it even harder to realize what's going on.. with sketchup, it's very easy to keep everything straight and square so it has me wondering how you arrived at this lopsided rafter.. if you're into it, maybe draw up a step-by-step of the method you're using so people will be able to see where you're taking a bad turn..
