I use three fingers for orbiting (and two fingers for zoom). That is because for me is three fingers = middle mouse button system-wide.

If you can set it per-application, then try it. I'm curious if it proves useful πŸ˜„

I can't find anywhere on my system where to set three fingers to be set as a certain click... nor for two fingers. I've got the synaptic touchpad drivers...
I might be able to it with additional software though... any suggestions?

    • Use vertical and horizontal scroll on touchpad for orbiting

Would it be possible to bind the vertical & horizontal scroll movement (two fingers on the touchpad) to orbiting movement?
I find it could be really useful for them laptop users...

vertical scroll isn't necessarily needed for zooming (like it is now) since pinch zoom works...

If it makes any difference, I'm using a Dell XPS l502x (great computer)

      opinions? ideas?

Fredo's plugin is another GEM! Thanks for the pointer!

It would be nice though if it were incorporated into ThomThoms "close edge gaps". An option to immediately eliminate the vertexes (if possible) right after closing a gap - like magic!

      Thanks!

I think the initial pivot point should be one of two:

      1. If the idea is to 'select geometry' => run plugin => pivot point and direction automatically selected - it should use the original component's axis point along with the blue orientation.

      Hi Tig,
Is there any chance you could add a toggle, to select the original component's axis point, along with the blue direction, as a point and direction of rotation. ? πŸ˜„

It would be really useful for pointing a bunch of similar components to this or that point, with out the need to select the first two points for each component rotation.

    • [REQ] close gaps and unify lines

To clean up an imported DWG there are several nice plugins that I use for closing gaps and eliminating unwanted edges.
If it's ThomThom's "Close Edge Gaps", or Chris Fulmer's "Close Opens" or "1001 bit tools extend edge to edge" or "stray lines"...

I find that when closing a gap, all the plugins basically do the same thing by filling the gap with an additional line.
Is there any plugin that after adding that line would unify it with one, or with both of the lines that it just connected?

After closing gaps with a little tiny line, when pulling the surface that is created, it is full with unwanted lines... in a large model it creates a hell of a lot of unneeded geometry (see images below)

the only way I can clean the lines is after doing a 'push pull' I can use the ThomThom's "cleanup" plugin. But maybe there is a way to clean it up before push pulling? cause I don't always really need to push pull the surfaces...

      cheers!

      Hi Fredo,

Now that the plugin works over the network, do you think it can be possible to assign, in the default parameters/in the main menu, a Username.
It could be username for each computer or you could even have multiple usernames for one computer, though I think that wouldn't be necessary.

The idea would be to track time for a project with the ability to see how much time each user spent on it and at what time during the project each user was involved... would be great for a gantt chart...

    • RE: [Plugin Library] LibFredo6 - v15.5a - 08 Oct 25

      Hi Fredo,

I have been getting the following errors when I try to check plugins for updates.
I click on the red ruby icon and nothing happens (the update window doesn't come up)
and I get the following in the ruby console:

C;/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/ruby/singleton.rb;84; warning; already initialized constant FirstInstanceCall
      C;/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/ASGVIS/VfS/Ruby/VfSObservers.rb;307; warning; don't put space before argument parentheses
C;/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/ruby/singleton.rb;84; warning; already initialized constant FirstInstanceCall

The last thing I did, which may have caused this was install GhostComp 1.0 - but I have tried removing it and the error still comes up.
      Any ideas?

edit: If I click on "check updates" through the menus, everything works... it's just through the ruby button that it gives errors.

      Thanks!

edit2: Forgive me! I think I confused your update plugins ruby (which is part of libfredo) with a different ruby that has the same "ruby" icon which is called Autoloader.... so never mind! my bad!
      everything is working fine!!

I use, and use a keyboard shortcut (q, for no particular reason) to toggle my panels on and off.

How do you toggle all the panels on and off with one key press? Is that on the mac only?

Since the start of my using sketchup (since version 5) I've been wishing to have a sort of KIOSK mode, that would hide all the toolbars and windows with a key press.

      1. It would be great for presenting a project (remove all the clutter)
      2. It would go well in conjunction with the sizer plugin which I've never used, because I don't wish to mess up my toolbars every time. (restore positions doesn't always work)
      3. Just like there is "restore toolbars positions" there could be several toolbar setups. 'presenting mode', 'render mode' 'editing mode' or any custom mode...

On the other hand, I believe that when a program is too customizable (UI and shortcuts) it can cause the program to be less appealing and messy in appearance and operation, for experienced users, and especially for new ones who have no idea what toolbar might be hiding where).

Take Adobe Photoshop for instance. In it's early stages, it was very tough to customize (shortcuts couldn't be changed). But once you've learned the shortcuts and the basic structure of the program, you were free to use it in your "native speed" on any computer it was installed on.

Right now I have 4 or 5 people sketchupping at work on different computers, and each has a different toolbar setup and it drives all of us up the wall finding things. Luckily I was quick to recognize the problem of over customization, and made sure that all computers had at least the same keyboard shortcuts setup (similar to photoshop shortcuts BTW). Half a problem solved...

Anyway, my point is, that over customization can be a hindrance if not tackled correctly!

    • RE: Show Me Your SketchUp

I have dual screen setup at work.

      1. I put all the toolbars as crammed up as possible - trying to maintain their positions so I remember where everything is.
      2. the different windows I let float around on the second screen, because when they stick together, things get lost outside of the screen.
      3. I've got just about every key on the keyboard mapped to a function or plugin... If I've got something mapped I try to keep it's toolbar off.

(I've got an idea for a separate thread for everybody's keyboard shortcuts, if that interests anyone)

      Just thought of another use.
At my modeling and rendering department, we generally tend to share the work on models between us. It would be nice to have a worker ID or computer ID which would be assigned for each time track.
Then we could see how much time each of us spent on the same project.

      I really like this plugin!

For all those times when you worked hard on a model but forgot to track the time you've spent on it... and really wished you had...
You could have a little check in the plugin preferences to 'track time for untitled projects'.
This would generally eliminate all time spent with Sketchup, that is unaccounted for. great for spying too when you think about it...

a step further could be to have an option to rename the untitled time/projects in retrospect and assign that time to an existing or new project.

      What do you think?

      I corrected the typos...
I used to use Sketchup both on a Mac and on a PC. I had got it working on my Macbook Pro 1,1 through OSX, and also got it working through bootcamp and also through parallels at one time. But things were rather slow.

In this case, the error is appearing on my computer at work, where I'm using windows XP SP3.

(on a side note: I have gotten quite fed up with all the mac crap... For me all the good graphics software works better on a PC, and hebrew support on a mac is crap... hence I have just recently got a new Dell XPS L502x... nice beast - this should be on a different thread...).

Update is published in main post.

When exporting to CSV for opening with Excel, Excel doesn't recognize the day dates in their current format which is:
      "Tue 03 May"
I think it recognizes dd.mm.yy or dd.mm.yyyy or dd.mmm.yyyy etc. or with a / - dd/mm/yy or even the backward American way which is mm.dd.yy.
Anyone of those formats, preferable the first and second would be great!

On the other hand the month column is recognized OK.

      great great plugin!

vray 1.49 has a lot of new touch ups, and it supports PNGs. Network Renders don't always come out well.
Biggest drawback is that I am unable to transfer materials with copy and paste between models like I used to do with 1.48. Am I the only one with this problem?
