      Using the Axes tool inside the group permanently changes the group's axes. (at least yesterday when I checked again). So IMO there's no need to rotate geometry.
      Using the right click (again inside a group) > Move command is a temporary action.
      I didn't check the one you mentioned, 'Align Axes' inside a group.

      Wo3Dan,
      I am glad you repeated this as I did not grasp the first time what you meant.

      I don't think I am alone when I say that this behavior frustrated me too.
      (axis placement inside a group is temporary: when using right click...place)
      However, using.....Tools........Axes does make it "stick"

      So thanks again for this.

      Thanks for the suggestion. It seems the Precision 15 5000 Series (5510) is/looks almost identical to the xps15 although its hardware is not as good at the same price(at least over here in The Netherlands). Slightly less cpu speed, quadro instead of gtx960m, 8 Gb memory and 256 Gb ssd instead of 16Gb and 512 Gb ssd.

      still looking...

      kaas,
      Isn't that always the way, close but no cigar.

      Couple of things I consider with the precision series:

      Relatively zero bloatware when shipped. (and options to remove "trial software")

      OS options like Windows 7 Pro (I favor this ....for now)

      And it does seem more like a "buisness" machine than the xps, though the current xps look a lot less like the spacehip XPS I used to own. 😉

      edit:
      and IDK about the Netherlands, but I receive "coupons" and "special" offers regularly from Dell.
      (I am not a dell rep...just sharing info)
      and have found that if you call your order in often times they can either throw in hardware and maintain price or offer discounts on the spot.

      juju,
      thanks, and I agree with what you say here. (I know SU does not suport this)
      I have been considering LumenRT and understand that will use the quadro hardware as designed.

      And also, I recall reading some time ago that "todays" cpu clock speed is in no way the same as the old way of measuring.
      IOW todays 2.7~3.0ghz is many time(s) faster than single core cpu 2.7~3.0ghz of years ago. (IDK.....is this correct?)

      I'm up for a new laptop as well. So many choices..and still soo few since most brands don't offer a product for my 'ridiculous' wish-list. I'm looking for:

      • a nice looking business style laptop (no plastic crap, no fancy gaming design and no bright fancy gaming colors)
      • a good ips display. 15" and 1080p will do.
      • 3 Mhz dual/quad core cpu (Intel)

      • dedicated gtx graphics, somewhere in the 900 series
      • and of course; fast ssd, good keyboard, etc.

      Lets keep this thread going so we all now where to look for a decent laptop.

      I have been looking at the Dell Precision Mobil Workstations.
      (I like 17" screen w/numbers keypad/SSD/4gb gtx/16gb ram/etc)
      I have concerns about the high resolution displays due to the issues w/inferencing in SU.

      It's not easy for 100 labels and it's not easy if you want to change label position.

      Maybe so, but from 101 to infinity it is fairly easy to set right/left/center justify. 😉

      Select Label.....Text Style.......Right/Left justify.....font size etc. and Go.

      Now if OP wants auto justify in relation to leader position, than I can see this as a useful feature. (with option to turn on/off if required)

      Or, when moving a label and the leader flips from L to R auto text justify would also be a time saver here.

      Is there a reason why there is an extra space after the text if is to the left of a leader arrow as opposed to the right? This is too big a gap and its a pain having to keep editing labels.

      By editing lables do you mean selecting justify "right"?

      LO default text is set to justify left, and why the text is closer to the arrow leader.
      You can easily edit the text to justify right by selecting the note and selecting the justify right icon in the text palate.

      Can you explain what you mean by "just set it up that way".

      Have you tried using section cuts in SU......up to the limits of what you desire to show in LO/ 2D.
      (think from the "back side" of the model)
      IOW:
      Think old western town movie prop. (facades only)

      I modeled a small developement a couple years back and to get a "street view" in 2D I used a section plane from behind to limit the info LO had to calculate. (I recall this working well)

      off_Axis_perp.pngseasdes,
      Without an example of what you are trying to do, I can just say it is very much the same as in Sketchup.

      Use your cursor to "show" Layout the line segment you wish to reference.
      (let inference "see" by briefly running cursor on the line segment)

      After that your new line should highlight in purple/magenta when parallel and perpendicular.

      Joe, All
      I get the same result as Joe. (on export to png @ 6000pix)

      However if I place new textbox by double left click (no leader)SU behaves as expected.(and I think others have suggested this)
      Also, in entity info,Joes text that is giving him trouble has "hidden" showing as to leader.

      New text placed by double click shows the arrow and leader blank in entity info. (see attached pix & revised SU model)
      Joe, did you originally place the text with a leader showing and then select hidden in entity info?

      For the 2d vector scale issue, double check the scene you are exporting from is not only set to Parallel projection, but is also aligned perfectly with regards to view alignment.

      In addition to what Sonder says here, I do recall "zoom extents" is also required to maintain scale on export.

      Which may help explain the cropping of the scale bar in your first image?

      HI;

      Thanks for all of the comments.
      To clarify my original intention:

      All I am really after is a way to name them- to tell one from the other when they are close together or "in traffic" in a crowded model.

      Thanks again,
      Ray Strang

      Ray,
      I agree 1000% with you above statement.
      I will add:
      The section planes must already have unique attributes to be associated with scenes.
      So I would think that all that would be needed would be a way to "see" them (in list form) and name them.
      Sort of like how we have styles "in model"
      This by the way...... from somebody who wouldnt know Ruby if it bit him in the backside. 😄

      @jql said:

      When a section stops cutting it's because it isn't active on that scene anymore. Layers help you organize that. Haven't you double clicked on a section by accident. That does activate/deactive sections.

      I should have made myself clearer, I have had numerous scenes with associated section planes placed on layers representative of their specific function/assignment.
      These scene specific section planes (on their own unique layers) are in no way ever further manipulated(double clicked/other) after creation.

      @jql said:

      1 - You should double click on section that isn't active anymore (making it active)

      True.......should an "active" section plane become "inactive"......but my reason for posting is to draw attention to the fact that in my experience, section planes that I have placed on their own/unique layers become "inactive"....by/for no apparent reason.

      @jql said:

      2 - Then you should send it to the right layer which is visible in the right scene

      This of course is correct and one would expect to maintain predictable/constant behavior.
      My experience has been that the section cuts after being assigned to layers other than Layer0, do not respect/behave predictably.

      @jql said:

      3 - Then you should use Scene Manager advanced properties to update active section on that particular scene :
      3.1 - Click on the scene on the list only once;
      3.2 - Untick Active Section wich discards section info on that scene;
      3.3 - Tick Active Section back on, wich saves current active section on that scene.
      3.4 - Note that it doesn't matter if the section's layer is invisible and you're not on the right scene if you use advanced scene manager properties.

      In my experience....I have established specific scenes....with specific layers and other attributes "active" per scene, and of course an "active" section plane on a specific "layer".
      All is well for some time..............until and for no reason it just "breaks".

      Section planes in not just one scene no longer "cut"......in fact it can be completely random.

      Some scenes retain full functionality...............but others only "break" with respect to section plane "cut"

      JQL
      I appreciate your response and insight, I just felt a need to better describe my experience.

    • RE: Naming Section Cuts?

      Ray,
      You may not have the same experience(s) I have had with placing section planes on layers.

      I can only say that the "cutting" would break (random section plane(s) stop cutting X-sections) from time to time for me, and it was a royal pain to "fix".

      I could never replicate the problem, so I cannot tell you how it would break.

      Just know that if suddenly the section plane(s) stop cutting that it may be related to them being on layers.

      Perhaps this is similar to weird behavior by SU when geometry is placed on any layer but Layer0?

      Now that I say that maybe there is a way to put a section cut in a group and then put that group on Layer0.

      anyway, my 2¢ worth.
