Segments. There is always a limit to the number of segments Sketchup can deal with. There is also an unfortunate lack of good error messages built into sketchup.
10000 segments of a single continuous 'curve' will tend to crash sketchup without a bugsplat.
Your question appears to show that 6000 segments is the limit on a follow me before it gives you an error that is somewhat meaningless.

    • RE: A Follow-Me Problem

My guess would be that you have too many segments in the path. Perhaps if you break it at the mid point then do a scale -1 it will work.
I can't look at your model just now.

    • RE: PC requirements for working on large models?

Rich has given you some good advice there.
It is also worth repeating that you can often get more major gains from model management than from hardware upgrades. People often spend money buying a more 'powerful' machine in the expectation that it will make a huge difference and their heavy models will flow well. It is often not the case. A badly bloated model will bring any computer to its knees. Even a small file size model can have millions of edges contained within a few components, and those millions of edges will make things slow. We regularly see models that can be cleaned up by more than 50% sometimes as much as 80 or 90%.
So, all I'm saying is, be sure you understand the benefits of efficient modelling practices along with good hardware.

    • RE: Mouse Question

The tiny micro switch that is the obit button can break, as can any of the individual sensors that are the workings of the mouse. If all the pluging and unplugging and restarting etc doesn't make it work, and if it really isn't working in other programs on your PC, for example scroll wheel click in a web browser should bring up a double arrow icon that lets you scroll without using the wheel, and if you have tried it on another PC and it isn't working, then it sounds like a hardware issue with the mouse itself. Not to mention the amount of junk in your PC fan, you could have a similar issue inside the mouse.

    • RE: Mouse Question

Is it not working for anything?
      What sort of symptoms?
Did it just stop working or was it faulty for a while?
Have you unplugged it and tried again?
      Have you restarted your computer?
Lots of guesses but nothing specific to go on.

    • RE: Mouse Question

You should have no issues adding another mouse. Unless the 'scroll wheel issue' isn't within the mouse itself. If the mouse is simply broken then you should be able to add another mouse and dongle and continue to use the keyboard.

My next issue will be the licensing of my Fredo6 plugins. I had received a set of emails with the license info but my laptop had died and I could only access it on my iPad since my laptop had died. Just another challenge when I do get a new machine. ๐Ÿ˜ž

When you have your new machine your emails should be available on it, if you set it up to receive them. Then just add the license files to an appropriate folder and access them from there.
Or download them to your ipad and email them to yourself when you need them, or pop them into an icloud location, I could go on.

    • RE: Recommendation / Suggestions

There are a couple of basics that you need to work to, even at a hobby level.

SU uses a single core per instance, so a higher speed less cores can be better than more slower cores.
But more cores can be better for rendering, so there is a balancing act involved. Just don't be fooled by something With many many cores but a very slow speed.

A dedicated Graphic card, generally Nvidia have the least problems, the more expensive Quadro range isn't worth the bother.

Ram, more Ram, and some Ram. Not meaning to go overboard but Ram does make a difference, look for at the very least 16gig

The trick then is to find the best combination of these within your budget and with any other features you want.

    • RE: Style not kept in animation

Make sure you have correctly updated each scenes style and updated any styles themselves. Perhaps you have turned off the warning message about styles having changed so something is being updated incorrectly.

    • RE: Getting the protractor in the right plan (colour)

Use the right arrow key to set to the red axis. I'm pretty sure that is available in 2017.
Or click, hold and drag the rotate tool until it is aligned with the red axis, release, click again to rotate.

    • RE: Measure a pdf?

It certainly wouldn't get you an accurate 'to cut' size, but then I'd never trust measuring off a drawing for that.

    • RE: Measure a pdf?

You may have missed it in Rich's comment, there is one possible candidate in the PDF that could let you measure to set the scale. The 8" Stone Border. If it is 8" across you can use it to get the drawing to the right size.

    • RE: A solution for Amazon deliveries

Given almost a week to think and consider your product in relation to a single door environment.
And having consulted with quite a few of the security and safety authorities that I have worked with over the last 30 years, not to mention the average man and wife with a kid or two and a simple unbiased explanation of your expanding box(brilliant) and how you can easily open the box and remove the blockage...
none of them, not one, thought I was joking about the difficulty of getting out of a room when gasping for breath.
not one, none of them, thought it was a simple matter to open and remove the package while attempting to escape a burning building.
Your comment about the height of the doorhandle just left me speechless.

I have personally experienced this and have trained many people how to help people survive this sort of horror. Have you ever tried a fire evacuation simulation.
I seriously hope you have to convince a 'Fire Safety Office as strict as you' or you may find yourself living with the consequences.

    • RE: Closing a geometry

You have a Component nested inside a group, explode one or the other to get rid of it, then edit what you keep and trace two edges to get the face you want to extrude.

A person escaping from the inside would be able to simply lift the inner door (which is not locked in) and remove the contents of the box in seconds so I think there would be no issue here.

I doubt this would get by most safety inspectors. Anything that can hamper access is frowned upon.
Suggesting that someone crawling on the floor gasping for air can simply open the box and remove the package would not be an acceptable solution in most cases.
