Here is a very basic ruby that opens a CadYou page in IE. You can try editing it (simple text editor) to change the hyper link. If you change the ruby name, you must change its reference in the ruby. The plugin was written by the owner of the CadYou site where you can access his stuff. I have not tested editing his Ruby, use at you own risk. Btw, I've gotten some good stuff off the CadYou site. cadyou.rb

There MIGHT be another solution in case of such a tremendous amount of data; the "Cities in 3D" program by Google. They accept 3D data "en mass" from local governments, agencies etc. If you follow the big, green "Get started" button at the top left, you get to a page where you can communicate with Google and eventually (I suppose) send in 3D data other than orthogonally set skp/kmz files.

Antialiasing (or actually the lack of it) causes it. With these vector lines - that are supposed to be perfectly straight even shown diagonally - the problem is that the pixels on your monitor run in a vertical/horizontal network. Now when these diagonal lines displayed (and there's not enough antialiasing on), the line becomes jagged (like steps) and the back face bleeds through in between these steps. To make the "painting of back faces" simpler, after texturing your front faces (individully, as you need), group the whole thing and apply the same texture on the group as a whole. It will texture everything (including back faces) whose faces are not textured in the previous step (those will be kept intact). If your video card supports OpenGL (and Antialiasing) nicely, you can set it in Window (Sketchup on Mac) > Preferences > OpenGL > Harware acceleration; if you have it checked and select that option, in a list you will see antialiasing options like x2, x4 etc. The higher you set it, the smoother your lines will be (and the less the back faces will bleed through) although the higher it is set, the slower the performance of your SU can be. If it doesn't really bother you during modeling, you can keep it low. During export, you can set antialiasing separately if you wish and it won't be so striking in an exported image.

T: At the time that I did the model, I think all of my groups/components were screwed. Whups, you said skewed. Yes, this is possible. But at that time, I was not sufficiently knowledgeable about groups and components, let alone layers. Actually, the building was rather simple. Of course the roof planes were sloped, but no other real complications.

Just to conclude this thread or my contribution to it, my problem appeared to be related somehow to using SU through a Linux machine that is remotely controlling a Windows PC where the instance of SU is installed and running. Not sure I said that right, but you probably understand. The system we use to provide Windows on a Linux desktop is Citrix, which I understand is not really a Windows emulator but actually a remote control of the distant Windows pc. However I also understand the same sort of problems with exporting animations happens with the Windows emulator Wine (I think it's an emulator), as reported in the link a few posts above. If this thread would fit better somewhere other than Newbie, then feel free to refile it.

Is a long time but .... for me the problem persist! I state that my English is what it is ... not good .... So perhaps I might be confusing ... if you do not understand let me know! hello! honoluludesktop, xrok1, and anyone familiar with effective methods to make the room match could you explain how you would do well to make a "camera match" "with pictures of this kind, I therefore have no obvious images perpendicular planes?? honoluludesktop, maybe I'm lacking in basic knowledge of the reconstruction but your perspective is based on what facts? can give me detailed directions please? xrok1, are you saying that pointing out a plan in the "reality" then I could stick the photo .... Could you explain better??

At the moment it isnt possible to trigger a DC animation with scenes, although i believe it is on the wishlist. So no, you cant (easily) make components change relative to the scene. There currently isnt a way of inserting a video in to a scene, either, although i believe some of the ruby chaps are working on it. no guarantees, though. On to what DCs can do: essentially they let you give components parametric behaviours. Basically what this means is you can say to the component "If your x metres from the origin be blue." or "if your x metres high have y steps." Thats a pretty simplistic way of looking at it, but it should hopefully give you the right idea. You can always check out the 3d warehouse for some examples of DCs and what they can do. p.s. speed demon gai beats me to it once more.

Yes, but as I said, it will slow down SU so eventully you will want to find better solution; a better card or n updated driver if your card is okay.

Here's some very preliminary coding for a single cycle just to see if this kind of animation would suit your purpose. Here is a video clip in case anyone else is interested in this type of thing ...[flash=400,300:1x2no254]http://www.youtube.com/v/5Y4RFyNm5Vo[/flash:1x2no254] and screenshots of web dialog at different stages. [image: bKiK_sheetCuts6.jpg] Please note: The coding is for PCs only. Unzip the .rb file and folder to Sketchup plugins subdirectory and open sheetCuts from plugin menu. This is not a traditional rectangle optimisation tool (although it could have one) but a device to produce: ... instructions for automated or attended machines ... animation for checking handling, sequence, timing and so on ... various preferences, details, analyses and other options (nothing compiled yet) Click on underlined words to select offset percentage or dimension, trim or cut, and to set rotate and settings. The number of cuts is calculated automatically. The final offcut is shown. Inputting a new number of cuts overwrites the automated calculation. I think this satisfies your PM request? Prev and Next will later be available to review and edit. I think this will be useful as a device for designing plywood or MDF furniture and sheet metal panels and so on. If you can find a use for it for your paper cutting problem, all well and good, but it will take a little time before it is really functional. Chris sheetCuts.zip

OK. When I said their web page I'm referring to those that have one. We have the Chris Fullmer example here, he is a good approximation to what I'm talking about. His plugins have a nomenclature who stars with his initials, this way I know they belongs to Chris tools and all are grouped in my plugins folder. Even a text file with instructions is not always present when you download some rubys, with some words about the required components, etc. Sometimes I need to log here looking for the animated demo of some ruby that I not use for some time or what ruby do that I need but can't remember at this point. I had a brain stroke some years ago, but this is common when you have a lot of rubys with more or less descriptive icons. Well, I don't know how exactly, probably most of the ruby programmers are clever people, much more than me, but SU is turning more and more chaotic for moments.

Todd, "newbies" only need the basic directions and impetus at the beginning. After a few examples you will be able to discover "simple but efficient" solutions on your own.

It sounds like you have a Z-fighting problem. Meaning there are two faces occupying the same space. If this is the case you need to "cut out" the offending hatch. Do you have an image or could you upload the skp for us to look at?

You could create a template and use it as a watermark, although youd need to change it each time you printed. The other option is to export an image and import it in to a ready made layout in something like word. Would be pretty easy in layout...

Google doen't need to "approve" anyone to teach although there is an "Authorised Training Program" in which if one is included, can wear the badge of it and it says it is authorised by Google (so you teach in the name of Google). Generally local resellers run such programs but well... the quality may depend on the knowledge of the reseller / its employee. Certainly there are exceptions and also, to become an authorised trainer, you need to take some exam or what. However what about an educational institution? Would they then not be allowed to teach SU (in fact, Google encourages schools to teach SU).
