@ecuadorian said: ...I remembered that this script calls "pages" what we now call "scenes". As I'm new to SketchUp, I don't know why... Before SU 6, scenes used to be called pages in SU. I guess the expression remained in the ruby language since it would create incompatibilities otherwise. The same is for construction line / guide line (and you can still find a bunch or plugins mentioning construction geometry).

@unknownuser said: There was a lot of debate about this before launch. We wanted DCs to follow the rules of SketchUp as much as possible. So the question became: "If I have 3 DCs in a model, and I scale one of them, should all of them update? Or should only the one I scaled?" ...In the end, we thought it would be more frustrating to have every instance in the model update instead of just the one you scaled. We've talked about adding some kind of toggle that would allow you to choose which behavior you prefer. Any thoughts on that? Do you guys think we did it backwards? I'd love to hear your ideas. No, you didn't do it backward or forward, you just didn't work it out at all. The only logical solution would be to scale the one DC WITHOUT BREAKING THE LINK TO THE ORIGINAL COMPONENT DEFINITION. It is essential to design workflow to be able to go back and make changes to ALL elements throughout a project in a quick and centralized way. As budgets change, design options are accepted/rejected/marked up, and products enter or leave the market, the ability to edit a single entity and broadcast that change to all instances in the model could save hundreds of production hours. I am actually really surprised to discover that this is how DC work and the whole scheme is actually intentional. I am not a programmer but I don't understand why this could not be fixed? User Defined attributes can already feed sub-entites data, like LenX for a certain sub-group can be set to the User Defined attribute "MyLength" so why should it matter if one DC has "MyLength" set to 20 when another is set to 30? I must be missing something here? Revit and AutoCAD have this ability baked into Families and Dynamic Blocks already. The both use dimensional constraints and user-defined parameters to set the contextual "data" of an entity and objects within can be set to react to that context in different ways. And I think a "Component Replacer" is more of a band-aid approach than an actual solution. If it could be written as a 3rd party script (I believe ThomThom already did), it would have to not just reset the definitions of all the bastardized components, it would have to note and re-create ALL of the attributes of every component in the model so that all the scaling, visibility, etc. of various components would not be lost in the re-writing. Please tell me this has already been worked out in SU2017 or something and that is why there has been no further dialog on it!

thomthom, you nailed it. I assumed SU7 would overwrite SU6, but when I looked SU6 was still there. Thanks! Ed

@thomthom said: I used the same method of a recent product design project. Lots of rounded edges. (and mine included an DVI plug, as oppose to your USB ) Though I for some reason found myself making the x100 version and then make an instance that was x0.001 smaller. I did that because it seemed that I still had problems creating the small faces, even though the instance was scaled up x100, which is why I scaled the definition instead. But maybe it was another problem... Leave the original on desired dimension and scale just the working-with instance. Use 10x 100x 1000x. The point is to have lines big enough to can create faces. If you round an edge with r=1mm and use 6 segments for 1/4circle arc, you will have each segment smaller than 0,3mm ! In this case 10x is ok. But are lots of situations when durring intersection you can't get faces because the distance between two lines is too small. In this case you will need 100x-1000x scalling. I used up to 1.000.000x scalling Don't be shy to scale... it's free!

If you select the dimension tool then select the whole line you wish to dimension until its highlighted Blue. then drag the dimension line out parallel along the face or axis you wish to display it on and then click at the final position.

Here is a totally "dummy" material file with a 1 pixel x 1 pixel, totally transparent png image set as 1 cm x 1 cm texture. Use it as "dummy shadow caster" in cases like yours. Not that in the "In model" prewiew it may appear as black for some reason. Transparent.skm

A free workaround would be to take the model containing the scenes you got, save a copy of it, delete everything, then import your other model and position its origin to match.

A little while ago I had the same problem, and went for a shower. Point was.. it wasn't that big of an operation. SU5 did it without even twitching, while 7 wasn't finished with when coming back half an hour later. And as said, it was a pretty straightforward oparation: half a cylinder IwM to a flat surface. It seems that for now, the problem has been solved: apparently an update was all it took to iron it out. Thanks anyway guys
