Alright, did the matrix math for ya. Ready? Your complete rotation matrix for your system is: (C_C)(C_B)+(S_A)(S_C)(S_B); (S_A)(S_C)(C_B)-(S_B)(C_C); (C_A)(S_C);; (C_A)(S_B); (C_A)(C_B); -(S_A);; (S_A)(S_B)(C_C)-(C_B)(S_C); (S_A)(C_B)(C_C)+(S_B)(S_C); (C_A)(C_C);;; WHERE: S_ represents sine, C_ represents cosine A is first angle (rotation about global/local X) - doesn't matter which since global is local for first rotation. B is second angle (rotation about global Z) C is final angle (rotation about local Y) So, you need to make the .to_a matrix of your rotation be equal to this matrix (after normalizing the axis vectors), then solve for A, B, and C. This matrix is very similar to rotation of Z, then X, then Y, but still different.

I like your light trick. One thing I have done, not wanting to push the render button (cause for me that is sometimes a rabbit hole of time)... for quick "sketches" model views to clients or builders. I take two different shadow version exports, overlay in GIMP, choose a transparency and with a layer mask, run a big fuzzy brush over some areas to change transparency. It can suggest light gradients and even reflection. If you want to geek out you can add ambient occlusion by another overlay or burn tool. I often add a favorite filter to enliven the colors. I think it's faster than adjusting textures. For example I will overlay an interior scene with shadows and one without. I choose setting in the shadow window for each to get the brightness settings I want. If I do it right the process is not technical or time consuming , just some quick adjustments and brush strokes for a better output. Now there's the Ambient Occlusion plug-in that may be a good quick fix for SU output.

Turning off hardware acceleration should do the trick, just as Barry suggests. I've found the following page from Apple really useful to see if a particular graphics card provides the necessary OpenGL 1.5 compliance that SketchUp requires: http://developer.apple.com/graphicsimaging/opengl/capabilities/index.html Since you're running OS X 10.5, it looks like the GMA950 only supports OpenGL version 1.2. On OS X 10.6, is supports OpenGL 1.4, which is better but not quite there.

Thank you very much for your assistance and advice, the old saying is true if all else fails read the instructions, do you think i have likely made a similar error with the Bezier package as after the load up I was not able to activate the toolbar icon but the plugin seems to be working ok as my son says to me often dad "(stay step away from the computer you dont know what your doing", he's not wrong however im not too bad at woodworking which why im keen to learn SU to help in furniture design. Newbies such as I are fortunate to have the expertise and talent at our disposal given freely. Once again many thanks for your help. Regards bbbb bill

Filled means that SU will fill the outlines with faces. If you don't fill it, it will be only the edges bounding the empty ehm... "nothing", so you don't have anything to paint first of all.

@unknownuser said: ...It can also run in tandem with SU6 so no harm done... Yes, you can keep su6 beside su 7. I do not know who was that nuts who said this to you however. DWG/DXF import was taken out of su 7.1 (not 7.0) but a plugin was provided instead.

@newone said: @jrexi said: Thanks Newone! Can you let me know how you did it so I don't need to bug you when I model some other pool designs Just build your component onto a face . When you will select the geometry and press G (make component shortcut) you will see "cut face" option checked. ah, so that's the trick. Thank You so much!

Id check your graphics settings first, see if theirs anything funny going on there. to do that, go window->preferences->openGL and tick 'hardware acceleration', if it isnt already

Thank you Anssi! Your answer actually helped me alot. I hadn't realized that converting the file to a dxf/dwg actually creates straight lines to make up the curves. If I just add a bunch of nodes into every curve and then export it (or create my vector curves using straight lines) then the results are actually really clean and quite accurate when importing them into SU. This is one of those little things that I wish i had known all along and will help me a thousand times in the future. BIG HELP. Thanks again. scott

Hi Mogogirl, hi folks. Make sure that you have not smoothed some edges accidentally. If this is the case, applying paint to one face that has some edges smooted will cause the color or texture to be applied also to the faces sharing smoothed edges with this face. If not sure, can you post your model by attaching it to a post. You don't need to post the whole model, only the problematic part. Just ideas.

@motley said: i uploaded a jpg image into my scene and played around with some of its colours. when i export as a avi the texture that is still the original jpg jumps around like there is an earht quake. the same texture that i played witht the contrast with doesent do this? why sketchup why do you do this? i resolved the matter by applying the non jumping texture to all the materials but now im curious. I have the same problem, with jumping textures in my animation exported from sketchup. I used mpeg-4 codec, 1920x1080 resolution, 25fps. Any solution somebody? Thank you very much.
