It is inherent in Sketchup (as I understand) not to tolerate an extreme number of points, which when connected become faces which are called poly's. A total station has no problem generating a large population of points. Sketchup has a problem if it has to make faces out of all the edges that the points potentially represent. Not that it can't, but big files become cumbersome.

@smoscowitz said: I want to build an entertainment center. I would like to try and design it on sketchup. The program opens with a perspective view. Is that all there is? Basics: SketchUp lets you build 3D models. The model's the thing. Usually you'll want to view it in perspective. Top, front, back, side and bottom views are also available. Xray views, too. Lots of choices, but the model's the thing. Start with a Rectangle. PushPull it into 3D. Then learn to Orbit, Hand (not its real name, but H is the keyboard shortcut and it looks like a Hand on the toolbar and when you use it) and Zoom in and out. I wrote a tutorial on this. It's still free.

You should really look at annotating your drawing in Layout, that is one of the things it is designed for, where as Sketchup is not. You need SU Pro to have Layout. You can always download the 8hr trial version if you do not own it and wish to try it out.

Can anyone help with this? I really don't want to remove SketchuUp from our College image because of this but so far cannot find a work around.

What? Are you now converted to "No docked toolbar"? (Note that many suffers from toolbars rearranging the SU Window and this is a very cool way to stop that, too!)

Cool! I'm attaching the kmz file, and as I am not completely sure what I am doing , I'm also attaching a screenshot of the area I need...just in case. Many thanks.

Yeah, 64 bit support could be beneficial for exporting (rendering, 2D export size limit etc). ATM I also often get to the limits of RAM when rendering/exporting really large images from inside SU.

Hi folks. Using the "Follow me" tool on this path that goes around and up and down will result in an unavoidable twisting of the facet. Using the "Follow and keep" plugin may help. Also, try to use an arc with as few segments as you can to minimise edges and face count. Three or four segments shall suffice to give a neat look. You may even try simply smoothing the edges at the interscetion of the two shapes to see if the "rounded" look may be sufficient. Just ideas.

I'd use Fredo's Bezier Plugin for the framework etc tocreate a series of lines. Then use either 'Follow Me' tool or 'Lines to Tubes' plugin to beef it out! [image: kcy3_Frame.jpg] [image: wR0E_Frame2.jpg]

@gadgetmanmike said: I use the tape measure and often it just plain doesn't create guide lines even tho. it just did and the tool is still selected. If you measure from an edge (line) out along a face you get a guide. If you measure from a vertex (line intersection) SketchUp thinks you are measuring and reports the distance. AutoCAD is a drafting tool. SketchUp is a designing tool. Don't get sucked into silly discussions of which is better. Both are excellent at their core purpose. Try my tutorial. It's still free.

I've been trying to use the same plugin, now located at http://rhin.crai.archi.fr/rubylibrarydepot/plugin_details.php?id=292 after correcting the spelling mistake calling delaunay2 when the file was called delauney2, it loaded correctly. however, after trying to triangulate points in SU8 Pro the following is printed in the log Error; #<NoMethodError; undefined method `position' for #<Sketchup;;Edge;0xa726168>> C;/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/points_cloud_triangulation.rb;63;in `points_to_array' C;/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/points_cloud_triangulation.rb;61;in `each' C;/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/points_cloud_triangulation.rb;61;in `points_to_array' C;/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/points_cloud_triangulation.rb;101;in `triangulate_points' C;/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/points_cloud_triangulation.rb;133 can anyone help? thanks

You can export it from Revit as a .dwg file - however, if you are running a free version of SU7, you should download this optional plugin first http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=161784 to enable dxf/dwg import in SU. Check out this tutorial also http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3271&p=236965&hilit=revit+sketchup#p236965

I can't get my head around this - can you post an image or two... The Protractor tool makes guide-lines at exact angle [degrees or A:B]. It's probably quite straightforward but can you show us some steps - start/end condition desired etc etc...
