re: that video. be wary of that helix drawing technique shown at the beginning.. the half-circle_move_one_end_up then copy/rotating deal isn't actually drawing a helix.. while it might look ok at a glance, don't rely on doing that if accuracy is ever of importance.

Ya, I find that troublesome as well. I'm not what capabilities Photo Director has but I was planning on putting a bit of blur in with adobe after effects -brodie

I have Instant Site Grader Pro and use it all the time. It's definitely worth the money. Since you are doing this type of work, you could also check out some of the tutorials I put together for the hardscape contractors here - http://prohardscaper.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52

@aerilius said: When the SketchUp model is not the active window, because the materials/entities dialog or finder or web browser has focus, and you scroll over the SketchUp model, does it zoom (although it has no focus)? yeah, i have a su model peeking through the side of my browser window right now and i can zoom in/out without taking focus from safari.. i can also right click on geometry and the su context menu will pop up though i'm still in safari.. not much use for that but with rhino there is. rhino uses the right mouse button for navigation so i can zoom and orbit a rhino model while keeping focus in another app.

Sometimes, even adding thickness isn't enough if the covering surface is fairly thin, like a thin sheet of ply overlying some support beams. You find as you zoom out that the underlying beams start to show through the surface. This is a feature of SU itself...the fact that the edges don't get any visually thinner the further away they get. Therefore, what might appear to be an edge as thin as a human hair if you are zoomed right in becomes as thick as a girder if it's hundreds of yards away. The only solution is this case would be to actually hide the top edges of all the beams...or turn off edges altogether. There are also one or two styles that can mitigate the effect.

It's not a funny way really - it's brilliant, and it does so for a very good reason If you have fought with other 3D programs where the textures scale themselves when you move a line or do some other modifications, which is what happens with normal UV mapped faces, you ought to love the way SU does it. The textures keep the same physical size whatever you do to the model (except scale the group/component, in which case the texture is scaled with the rest of the group), unless you tell it to scale, rotate, shear etc by using the Texture tools. This is one of the features that makes SU so great for architectural models etc.

It would really have been great if we had some way to have those lines in the shadow areas which were different from the lines which are not would have been really cool as suggested by oompa!! I hope someone reads this and comes up with some innovative ideas – would be something to look forward to!!

As has been said... a CNC machine uses special code ['gcode'] BUT there are converters in its software to allow certain file types like DXF to be converted to that special code... so you need to find out what types of file this specific CNC machine can take in and translate... Converting the SKP to 'gcode' direct is an option, but most machines include translators for some file-types [not SKP unfortunately]

Hello Box: That is a hugely impressive megaliner .... A virtual tour (such as the one featured in the link) would seem to represent a potentially most elegant solution to this problem. [The word "compromise" would seem somewhat harsh and inappropriate to use under these circumstances]. After all, I am indeed looking for any possible innovative options that could provide us with some much-needed functional "eye candy" to enhance our (presently somewhat graphic insipid) application .... Nevertheless, I still need someone to voluntarily assist us in compiling such a virtual tour - indeed possibly a somewhat more complex virtual tour than the one featured in the link .... Btw: What software was used to create that lovely (and highly functional) image?
