@sketch3d.de said: @haynesc said: my budget is around £50 per machine that's not much... the nVidia Geforce GT 440 is probably the 'best bang for the buck' you can get for this small amount of money. Add roughly £30 and you will get something more capable as e.g. the GTS450. And keep an eye on the power consumption, the GTS450 consumes ~100w if forced, in peaks up to ~135w. Which requires a power supply unit of min. 300 watts. hth, Norbert Thanks very much

I have not yet begun to explore Outliner. Maybe this will be an opportunity for me to see it work.

Tools on Surfaces is a good choice. You could do it with native tools by drawing an arc as a 'D' shape and extruding that through the cylinder. Then delete the flat side and use Intersect Faces to create the intersection. Delete the rest of the extrusion and you'll be left with the arc on the cylinder. [image: Vqta_arconcyl.png]

SketchUp, by default, will only display images at 1024 pixel resolution. You can set it to use maximum texture size under Window > Prefrences > OpenGL settings but it will still be max. 2048 pixels this way, too. Anything larger is still resampled.

hi, as well as Jim's advice. once imported you can change it however you want. You posibly want the 'Smooth and Soften/Edges' options, available from right-click,while editing inside the group/component or Window Menu . but without a link or image it's hard to give specific advice. john

On the Mac (AFAIK) you can also set the dpi (dot per inch) but in essence it is not needed. If you want a 10" image at 300dpi (when printed), export at 3,000 pixels. On screen, dpi has no meaning at all - it is just a resolution conversion for printing. If you want to print it, you can set the dpi resolution in PS (or any other image editor).

It's impossible to say what is happening with your DWG file contents without taking a look inside the file(s) themselves. One common error is that a file contains objects that were produced in an add-on, like the walls and other construction objects created with AutoCad Architecture (previously called Architectural Desktop). These must be converted into standard AutoCad 3D geometry in the originating application before importing them into SketchUp. When importing, SU also ignores entities that do not form geometry, like text and dimensions, imported images and hatches. SU version 7 cannot read the latest (2010) DWG file format. Anssi

I hope what I say is not Mac-only... First you may wish to read the manual on printing and printing to scale. Secondly. If I want to print a shape that better fits the sheet I change the proportions of my window to the proportions of the page. There's no exact way (I know of) that does this. Thirdly I never print directly from SU anyway. The quality is no good. I export to .png or pdf and adjust the size for the quality I want. At some point I might crop the image again anyway. But now I am beginning to use LayOut a lot for my printing (Pro version only) if I am just outputting a SU picture. Hope this gives you some ideas.
