Well, Rob, let's say these sketchy styles are somewhat in a "beta phase". Ak Tom (tomsdesk) about his frustrations with his beautiful trees that are much "undersupported" by the styles.

@zammorix said: so can someone tell me of any plugins that enhance lighting and shadow effects such as light up. but light up is too weird. it doesnt work for me. If LightUp doesn't work, please contact the author. His name is Adam Billyard, and he is an active member of this community. I'm sure he would appreciate the report.

Remus, thank you - I've been blind finding the keyboard shortcut from that list. Abot my second question, I'll post it in the Ruby Forum. Just to explain what I mean with similar faces selection: in Wings 3D, the subdivision modeler, by selecting similiar faces, the program let me select all faces with the some shape and area (not really the some, but with a tolerance that tends to zero. That's why it's named select similar, instead identical - in some complex models it selects unexpected faces sometimes). The selection cares about the bounding geometry too. Here a couple of screenshots to explain it better: the red highlighted faces are selected. This works with the edges too. This saves a lot of time, when editing complex geometries: in sketchup I had to select manually the faces with ctrl + left-click. [image: QVKd_wings3D-select-similar.jpg]

Thanks for taking an interest. This morning I laid out a small wind farm called High Praire, with 67 turbines, in Minnesota. I'm not sure if it's been built yet. The turbines were placed by overlaying the site map from the site application form. Here is the skp file. http://www.thumbpower.net/kmz/High%20Praire%20Turbines%20in%20place.skp 7MB Here is the KMZ file created by using "Place" into GE, then saving to kmz in GE. http://www.thumbpower.net/kmz/High%20Praire%20Wind%20Farm%20placed%20and%20saved%20in%20GE.kmz 3.78 MB Here is the KMZ file created with the export function of sketchup. http://www.thumbpower.net/kmz/High%20Praire%20Turbines%20in%20place.kmz 11.9 MB The KMZ file created by sketchup is big, slow to load, and choppy to navigate. It's only virtue is all the models are clamped to the earth. The KMZ file created by GE is smaller, and navigates much better, but as the models get farther from the origin they float higher off the ground. To see that in this model, which only stretches about 10 miles you have to navigate close to a tower and look from ground level. Trying to save the kmz created by sketchup from GE causes GE to crash in the attempt. Why does sketchup create a more complicated larger KMZ than google earth? Shouldn't they both create the same size KMZ? Every turbine is identical and has the identical orientation so the KMZ file only needs to be the geometry of one turbine plus the 67 locations where they will be placed. It should be a reletively small kmz. The size of both KMZ files suggests the model is being saved multple times. Thanks again for taking an interest Charlie

Yes, that's possible. The max image allowed in signatures is 700x60 pixels.

Hi Simon, have been working on Sketchup for a couple of years on my own but skills are definitely lacking! Love your Gothic panel skp drawing but do you have any tutorial as to how the flower was created; which plugins etc? Your geometry is a piece of art and much admired!! SDHatter

I think she wants to know how to, erm, "write" Podium settings files. My advice: no need for that. There's a couple of really nice ones over at the Podium forum. Look for Zirak's and Biebel's settings files. Also, as far as I know, xml file editing will be a thing of the past when Podium 2.0 is released. Which, obviously, is groovy.

Anssi, I think the question is regarding exporters available in SU Pro and not SU Free. Emulating existing SU functionality that would normally only be available in the Pro version and making it available for Free users. There have been a few functions emulated for Free that is normally only available in Pro, another (apart from those already mentioned) is the ability to set location and set the North angle.

@aidus said: Well now you need to place complex tree in skp format directly in your project. I thin pavol is working on stuf which allows us to add mxm file as proxy not putting complex tree in main model. With this we can simply use very realistic trees like evermotion trees. I'd say now they will try and save this and all the bug fixes till version 2 of maxwell! I hope though they will consider fixing the bugs in studio and release a fully working version of 1.? so that those restrained by the current economic climate are forced to buy V2 to gain the fixes!

You set up a scene with time in the morning then set up another one with time in the evening. See attached file (click on the Scene 2 tab) AnimatedShadows.skp

Attach the model (and the image file separately as well) so that we can look intio it - if possible.

Yep.... it is called layers_materials.rb - http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/en_ren_page.htm ...... although it will pick random colors to be applied to the layered geometry. If one wanted to match the colors that are in the layer system, one will have to do it manually. It is a nice script and could be the solution for you. CMD

There used to be one (not so elaborate) at Smustard's but I cannot see it in the scipt list: http://www.smustard.com/scripts/ You can see a selection of sites that host ruby scripts (a lot of free) here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?p=6792#p6792
