Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

@tig said: To see the surface's edges you could use View > Hidden Geometry > ON They'll then be visible but dotted, and the facets forming the surface become 'separate'. Any smooth/soft/hidden edges can be seen dotted, and selected/edited etc... If you want them as solid edges... To change them all to solid edges [with the setting View > Hidden Geometry > ON], use the Smooth tool [context-menu] and set the slider to minimum, all edges should turn to solid. If some do not change the original author might have also 'hidden' them. To fix those select all of the edges and context-menu > Unhide... Now all edges should be solid, dividing the surface into its facets. All smooth, soft and hidden behaviors having been removed Thank you!

It starts to be a real issue. I experienced this in a bunch of diffrent projects on several PC's (win 7,10 x64) SU2018 fails to perform autosave (no matter it's office server or local drives). I have a series of unreadable .tmp files (approx. 1/4 of original file size). 'Save as'\purging\saving in previos version won't help. The only workaround (if you are lucky not to miss the moment the mess with tmps has begun)is to copy-paste portion by portion to a blank file. A side observetion: all those files had a number of acad drawings for reference. It never bben an issue in last decade though.

We're all guessing, add the model and we can check it.

@Dave Cool ! Very practical one by one! Another trick is to export 3D in .kmz rename .zip Unzip you have all textures in one time in a folder (but they are renamed texture, texture_0 etc...) Not so bad!

In 3D Maybe use Artisan or SubD for subdivide them but you must have principally "Quads" In 2D you can use some Fredo tools (Beziers SPlines) for subdivide curves! Then Extrude with JointPushPull for some variety of 3D results

With two triangles connect the vertices directly across (bottom to bottom etc.) from one triangle to the other with edges. Then connect a vertex of one to a different vertex of the other and so three times. This way you create triangles that should form faces. You form the shape with 6 triangles altogether. Use smooth/soften window to hide the edges you don't want to see.

You should check out Artisan...modelling plugin for sketchup. I think it's going to be a help dealing with curved surfaces (TINS). I dont' know any "easy" way to generate that stuff you showed. the only thing I could say is that if it's just "eyecandy" and no bearing on reality...you could just make various curved amoeba shapes...extrude them up. Stack a bunch. Generate various curved surfaces on more-or-less vertical plane...and then intersect them with the flat extruded shapes you made. Delete the extra stuff and you'll have some odd 3D shapes.

@calypsoart said: My machines do not have multiple users or accounts set up. I believe I am the administrator. right, the Windows default user has administrative rights. Important is, not to install under an other user account but the same which should be used for SU. @calypsoart said: I am looking at trying a GTX 1060 or 1060. which is the same? Everything from a GTX 1050Ti (or better) is typically fine, the GTX 1060 does have a pretty good price-performance-relation. V-RAM dependend on screen resolution, better more than regretting later. Be aware, that higher screen resolutions (e.g. 4K) do have an impact on the screen output performance, i.e. need more GPU power. P.S.: don't full quote, thanks.

@calypsoart said: I just built this system with a RYZEN 7. Great performance for price. A huge improvement from my previous 2011 first gen Intel i7. The new machine boots in 15 seconds! All software works much faster, AutoCad, Rhino 6, etc. All EXCEPT Sketchup. I don't know what the problem is and if it relates to Ryzen, but Sketchup takes almost a minute to load, as does opening almost any SU file. Once loaded, it functions normally. I've removed Sketchup and reinstalled with the same result, even before adding plugins. Again, I don't know if this is a Ryzen problem and should put it to the Sketchup people. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/KaisoBuild/saved/#view=McfLD3 Hi! Please share your RAM and Hard drive information too.

Are these things actually 'hidden', or do they have some 'off' [aka 'hidden'] layer[s] assigned to them ? To see if they are hidden use View > Hidden Geometry > ON... Otherwise, check the layer settings... Check which layers the vanishing objects might have assigned... Obviously, SketchUp should not be deciding to make somethings 'hidden' [in either sense] in an unexpected way... I'm sure we can find the culprit...

Here is the reduced code to export scenes in one go as single images with transparent background. This is not a plugin. Important: Disable Scene Transition, name scenes properly, switch off sky and floor in the SketchUp style used, include the scenes to be exported in the animation Copy the code to the Ruby console and press Enter The images end up in the directory where the model is stored. Sources for code snippets: the above mentioned free plugins from Thomas Thomassen (thomthom) and Rick Wilson model = Sketchup.active_model pages = model.pages original_page = pages.selected_page model.start_operation "ExportScenes" path = (model.path.sub(/.skp/," - ")) pages.each do |page| if page.name==page.label pname = path+(page.name.to_s)+".png" Sketchup.set_status_text("Writing #{pname}") pages.selected_page = page options = { ;filename => pname, ;width => 1920, ;height => 1080, ;antialias => true, ;compression => 0.9, ;transparent => true } model.active_view.write_image(options) end end pages.selected_page = original_page model.abort_operation Unfortunately, the exporter does not work for my purpose, the export of hidden line stiles on a completely transparent viewport. For this I would have to be able to make a Color (White)transparent before exporting. But luckily there are video editing programs that can be used to overlay animations in different styles.

I removed and reloaded Sketchup. It still hangs and is horrendously slow to start up. Even before adding plugins. My Rhino and Autocad are much faster on this machine where SU hangs often. Could this be a problem with RYZEN and SU. Any suggestions?
