      Hello all.

This is my first topic, but I wanted to let everyone here know that I've already learned so much from reading this forum, and that I'm already grateful for all the knowledge to be found here. I have been doing architectural modeling for a while, but this forum has really been fantastic for anything organic. That being said, I hope this hasn't been discussed before...

Basically, what I want to do is create something similar to this 3d printed bowl: http://www.etsy.com/listing/73570780/mille-et-une-fruits-3d-printed-bowl. The way I was hoping to go about it would be to model the entire form on a flat plane and then drape it onto a form or terrain. The end goal would eventually (maybe) be 3d printed. As far as I know you can only drape 2d planes with the sandbox tools, but are then any plugins that I'm missing that could help me out? Or a different technique all-together to try? Thanks!

You can drape 3D forms, too. Either the shape you are draping on something or the surface you are draping on can be 3D. Rather imagine like projecting geometry along the Z axis.

Now while draping may work, it would most probably not be accurate due to the curved surface (where you only get a planar draping).

        Gai...

You could use this plugin to shape your bowl. Here's a video I did to help explain it better if you can understand my farmer's accent?

Thanks for the video tutorial! I was using FFD on a project a while back but it never occurred to me to try it here. I'll give it a shot!

Your other option would be to use a 2d face, drape it using sandbox tools and then use Joint Push Pull to extrude the face to whatever thickness you need.

                  Thanks David...i think 😐

I was told today that I made a grave error and called the plugin Free Form Divide and not Free Form Deformation. Not to mention any names but it was a certain Hungarian Archaeologist/Lawyer/Translator. πŸ˜’

So if anyone was confused between my video and the link I provided then you need the mallet removed from your rectum πŸ‘
