If you have for example like mine - a tree to paint around, why not export the image with no trees. Do your painting and then export an image with just your trees and overlay that on top of your 'painted' image. I was going to say you can use a texture (such as a brick pattern) for your brush. I guess the trick there is trying to match the perspective or orientation of the brick on the face of the building you are painting on with the brush. If that makes sense? haha.

The Roof looks that good because it's mish-mashed due to the triangulation on the roof and usually it would look terrible on a model but in this case it makes it look bump mapped. Here is the final model at this stage. The front is all complete, but the back isn't. I might get some more imagination at a later date and complete, or if some one else wants to complete it let me know and I'll give you the file. Oh, and the pigeons are from the 3D Warhouse. I prefer the first view as a composition, with good texturing, interesting sun/shadow angles and a good sky this could be a great scene. One crit is the reversed faces, but that can be fixed easily. Looking forward to seeing the finised product.

the style is the basic sketchup monochrome one with a black coloured fog.... a fairly simple effect that can hide some of the edges whilst keeping some inner detail. I would get rid of the converging verticals. In some scenes they might look OK to make a tall building look taller, but in a buliding this low it just does not feel right to me. I would also add some clouds or other atmospherics to the sky. Now it looks like a model photographed in front of a blue background. Also Photograph a runway or large parking lot. The streed needs a little dirt even if the building s are perfect.The foreground needs a car and some tree branches intruding into the frame. You will have plenty of opportunities to enhance you scene, but don't equate pristine sterility with a great render. A great render needs believability and that denotes some natural processes at work.

That does not look comfy!!!

I like the original image with the train. The surface looks like galvanized tin. But when is this train from? I've been here since the late 70s and I don't recognize the design. I do think a bit more contrast in the lights would be helpful. The improvement by Andyc is great but it seems to me to be a bit too much. It looks like either daylight coming in or a train headlight much more powerful than we actually have in NYC. But I do think it points to the direction you should take. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments. Like the "flying splashes of tempura paint..." description. I think what I'm enjoying about these is taking the hard-edged SketchUp export image and transforming it into something a little softer and less identifiable.
