Almost as a rule you'll find that people on 3D forums consider the Quadro line to be way overpriced compared to the GeForce. I can't say for sure but I think the Quadro only pays for itself when you move into high end architectural engineering programs that require continual math calculations. Get a GTX570 or 580

@aerilius said: I'm also interested in this topic, who knows if there will be an importer plugin (or maybe stellarium can export sky domes?). I think that in Stellarium you can save the sky dome like an image, then you can apply this image like texture to a sky dome model in SU.

Well I can always assign the bitmaps in 3DS Max and then they are ported over to UDK. This video demonstrates that: http://www.autobodyshoptoronto.com/importing-a-complex-static-mesh-udk-tutorials-by-javahawk/ Thank you so much for this though! It has made things so much easier for me. What is LW though?

@unknownuser said: Yes Only when you licence it does it go online to verify key and send you activation code. After that you can use it offline no problem Actually, you can also activate offline by manually exporting/importing license file, but then you will need to email license for activation. Anyhow online activation is more fluid... After activation there is absolute no need for a internet connection. For online material db (to be released later) you naturally will need some internet connection, but most likely Thea will not need to be installed on that machine.

@gaieus said: A question, Gulcan, if I may... What if I have SU installed on several computers? A typical example case would be to have a powerful desktop in office to work with and a laptop to go out to the site or field to (say) take measurements and quick drafts. This would definitely be an issue for me also as I run on a laptop and a desktop depending on how noisy the kids are being in my house. I like to keep them both running with the same plugins to make it seamless. I wouldn't make the purchase without a dual license scenario. Great idea with the demo though. Can't wait to try it at it's full potential. Especially the UV tools and Upsampling.

This application has vague similarities to some Punch design software.

Is this rendering plugin no longer a viable option with SU8? Or have I simply "installed" it incorrectly?

All four applies for TWR - actually... Although some perhaps will start arguing about "Fast render times", I'd say; it all depends on your scene/model, the materials used, lightning, wether you're using one of the biased or unbiased presets and - of course - how fast your computer is... Others may debate the "Low cost" and we need to acknowledge that although 99,00 USD is a low price to many, the price is high for many people in other parts of the world... My statement is, that compared to other render applications, all of the above points applies for TWR... So... It's impossible to say exactly which one to leave out from the list, since it will depend on the individual person... If I personally had to leave out one, it would be "Fast render times"... To me it's also a little fuzzy... Fast... Compared to what...?? To me it's fast, to others it's Acceptable, while others again may find it slow...

@unknownuser said: You can publish your SketchUp models to eDrawings files that can be packed into a self-executable (.exe). That means there is no Mac version (i.e. not cross-platform). Even worse, their html viewer (as far as I remember) only works in IE so there is not even cross-browser compatibility (although I cannot spot any info about this on their site ATM). There are a multitude of 3D viewers with much-much wider range of browsers and OS platforms. Also, many people are paranoid to launch exe files (and in many corporate environments it is not even allowed for users) so if you really want to publish something, I would go for 3D PDF instead.

I do not use Indigo either but as far as I know (and can tell), skindigo, the exporter plugin is just a "regular" plugin that you have to install just like any other plugin. Then with that plugin you can export your model to the rendering app itself If you choose Kerkythea, you will have to (also) install su2kt.rb which is the exporter plugin. The same for Thea and all standalone studio renderers. Some work inside SU: Podium, Renditioner, Twilight (no Mac version yet) etc. but for all these, you also need to install a plugin that will bring up the UI for you. And indeed, do not stop posting. This is a forum that is aimed to help people and experienced "pro's", if they indeed express their being annoyed by newbie questions are regularly scolded. Why do you think we even have a Newbie Forum here - on top of all other forums?

In that example, thomthom, there are definitely lights inside, right? What about giving them a color? Tungsten 100W have a color temperature around 3200K which is about RGB 255,241,224. Because of the reflection on the roof overhang, it looks to me like they are actually changing the color of the lights. I'm all for some post-pro, but the more I can do in the rendering itself the better, IMO. That way I can reproduce the effect as I change the design.

WOW that was a quick reply! Thanks very much. That does work to an extent however when i explode the image it then disappears or doesn't completely lie flat on the surface it was previously on. It kind of 'flickers' as i navigate and move the camera!? Is there anyway to get around that? Sorry for all the questions but i also tried the Indigo Renderer, also very impressed but my images i import do not appear in the renders? I know i really need to look into it more but do i have to create special 'materials' for these images to render? Thanks for your help!

You need to Scale everything up x10 and afterwards down x0.1, Sketchup and OpenGL can't cope with the small faces that result in such a small object intersection and so nothing gets made... [image: De7J_Capture.PNG]

You can purchase a SketchUp exporter that takes your file and saves it to a Vue file. THen Vue opens it and you can use it in Vue. You can add trees and plants in Vue, or whatever you want to do in Vue. Then render. If you don't want to pay for the plugin, you can also export from SU as a .obj file, then open that in Vue and it comes in fairly well much of the time. Chris
