Hmm, looks like there is a lot of development in this market, first we had Lightup (with an awesome new release last week), Then we have Unity 3 just released, Renderkiller on the horizon, LumenRT in alpha, and here is the new Lumion about to be released.

Looking very interesting, works with SU.

Nice shadows in the Lumion videos.
Quite some developement indeed, game technology and gpu rendering is bringing us a lot of novelties.
I would find it really hard to keep up with, if I was looking for exterior animation tools.
But (luckily) I need renderers that can handle multiple lights. I think only LightUp has this - or did I miss something about the other ones you named here?

Looks amazing for animated presentations and seems to have a lot of content with it. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. 👍

One thing however, the videos have a horrible (read irritating) FOV, I wonder if this is a limitation of the software.

It seems to be based on the old Quest3d engine so I wonder if its baked lightmaps or realtime GI?
It doesnt state anywhere that you can output an exe for realtime viewing? Only movie export?
Although it looks good it wasnt "WOW!" to me in the same sence that "the rendering killer" was.
The competition in this field will be quite hard I guess, and I think Lumion will have to annonce price and more in depth info about features soon if not everyone will buy "the rendering killer" since it will be released first. Of cause price will be a crucial part here also.

To me that did not look like realtime GI. It looked more like baked lightmaps, especially in Farnsworth House video. The plants looked good but I suspect those are highly optimised like in games. Anyway it could be good (subject to price)addition to arsenal.

Will this be Windows only (like Quest3d)?

By the way Lumion is the official name of Silex3d (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=29201&p=254399&hilit=+silex3d#p254399)

Just looked at the latest Lumion ad. They have priced it at 749 Euros, which seems more achievable than the render killer which seems a bit out of $ight. Of course you get what you pay for- sometimes. I will be interested in seeing some comments comparing both of them. The "killer" looks really good, but is "overkill" for my needs, however Lumion might be a better fit. I will keep watch and hopefully find time to play with some demos.

Yes, it looks like it is not a hyper-realistic renderer but if you do not go for complex caustics and all those fancy things, it can be a very easy and quick way for arch-viz (and of course there are some really stunning effects that can cheat the eye and help hide the faults of a crappy design of a building, too!)
                          😆

I tried "the rendering killer" and must say I was dissapointed both by the quality, the framerate and the prize.
The new Lumion movies looks the same quality but better prize and better looking models. Also their framerate is better according to their forum. (http://forum.quest3d.com)
Water and weather looked good. According to their forum the first release seem to be geared towards exteriors, and v2 will have color bleeding and (if I got it right) lights for interiors. I'm not sure either will be what I want.
I emailed some questions I had and now I'll wait for the demo...

😲 The Force is strong on this one.

"Everything created with Lumion and a few 3D warehouse models". So it must not be too difficult to go from SU to Lumion.

"2 seconds per frame final quality render"... This translates to one hour render time = 1 minute of pure awesome. That is to say, you could render a short commercial for a house development on your lunch break. I'm in love.

I'm thinking about a new way to teach Architecture to kids:
                                    First Point Shooters.
Just place a few monsters in a famous building and give them a gun. In no time they'll know every corner of the building better than you.

😆 make her animated, always just keeping out of reach, leading them to different parts of the model that you want them to see.
