And oh yeah -they are still making tweaks and the project is supposed to be wrapped up Monday . I should have told them I won't start a model until things are decently in place, but we all know that between architects and clients, they would still be designing the Empire State building. Rick

Hi Rick, The GE Snapshot and Terrain are imported as locked groups. You need to unlock them first (Right click or Edit menu). Then you can manipulate it just like any other groups entity; move it, enter the context and position texture etc.

@gaieus said: You need not really save it into a new model then reimport. If you group the whole structure you want to scale, and use the tape measure rescaling method while in the editing context of this group, it will only scale whatever is inside. To scale an entire model with the Tape measure tool: http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95006 To scale only an entity (i.e. a group in this case): http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=116447 thanks foe the tip, i was doing things the hard way!

Hi Steeve, What I ca see, this model curves in all 3 dimensions so simply wrapping the texture around will not produce a good result in native SketchUp. As far as I can tell from the images, probably the UV Tools plugin, more exactly its spherical mapping tool could produce some much better results. Download the plugin from the very bottom of the first post in the topic I linked above.

@mitcorb said: electricdoodle: Based on what your other respondents have stated, I want to apologize if any comments I offered misled you. I made an assumption based on your illustration, and gave my opinion. It looked to be within my realm of experience. I am glad that some of the more experienced folks here were able to shed some light and hopefully help you with your issue. And, my apologies to this forum and anyone else who may have been misled by my comments. I wish you good fortune in your future modeling. Sincerely, mitcorb mitcob, no need to apologize - because of my inexperience my question was undoubtedly ambiguous. You reaised some useful points which I have added to my 'tool set' for the future... One thing I am beginning to understand about SketchUp is there isn't just one way to do anything, or solve a particular problem, but several options from which you can choose (or even use combinations) depending on your specific model. I've appreciated all the suggestions I have recived. ED

If a wall is vertical for intents and purposes just use the top and bottom lines and make faces by drawing vertical edges - if these would not be quite vertical then I'd recommend making them so, by drawing vertical lines constrained in the z/blue with the shift key... You need to remove all of the walls 'contours' from the mix eventually, so group them out first, then within that group make a subgroup to draw the wall proper [top down] - later erase the unneeded other lines - but wait till you definitely don't need them - you will need to make the foot of the wall following a slope ??

Thanks for that very useful tutorial - I am now on my way to making nice regulary spaced tracks around a path! One additional question I have though, it's about making the individual segments of the tracks all neatly spaced at regular intervals... I am not much of a mathematician, so getting the track segments to space evenly around the arc - to match the spacing on 'the straight' - seems to alude me. Is this simply a case of trial and error to get the spacing on the arc and straight to match? Any hints at how best to match the spacing both through the arc and the straight would be gratefully recived. Sorry is the answer to this is obvious - unfortunately it isn't obvious to me!

Thanks a lot! Seems I made a blunder: The 3D model I tried to import was simply low poly!! Dang! The preview looked very detailed. SU imports 3ds files ok - apart from the fact that they are often "exploded", meaning all the different parts are not where they are supposed to...? Strange. Now I´ll check to see if I can export the hi-poly files from SU to .eps files.

From what I can see, redrawing a couple of lost edges would do it (as the rest is still there). Best suggestion would be to always group floor-plans and extruded wall (and on top of these, additional floors/ceilings and walls of second floor walls) grouped separately. Certainly you would end up with a couple of repeated, Z-fighting faces but only at spots that cannot be seen otherwise.

I sat last night and thought about what I had done then suddenly it came to me. The floor was originated when I grouped then and put them in 'Layer 30'. I had to make a few adjustments and as usual made then on layer 0. I must get used to 'layer 0' to work on THEN REMEMBERING to transfer, in this case, 'layer 30' - I didn't do that. That was the problem so I've got it sorted now. Thanks for your assistance xrok1 John

Note however that you cannot change the segment count of your circle once you´ve done anything to it - like pushed/pulled it, for instance.
