David, attached is a PDF file containing the article The Drawing Board from the Urbanite magazine (June/2009, Issue No.60) in which you can see how people from Baltimore are inviting the community to give some ideas in a transit system project, by using Google Sketchup. So far, I don’t know how the project is doing (I don’t live there) but you can get some ideas. The article here

When you create a scene with a new or modified style do you get this message box? [image: hdzl_Warning.png] If you don't, go to Window>Preferences>General and tick the box for warning you of style changes. [image: nrlS_Pref.png]

Working 8hrs on a laptop is not fun for any human wrist and hand. I had a 90 day return policy on an Acer i7 with Nvidia graphics I returned it after test driving it for 60 days. .....My 2 cents

You should be able to use the Drape function in the Sandbox Tools to apply your lines to the Google Earth terrain. Once the lines are draped you can modify the terrain to make it more accurate according to your survey. Curbs and planters should be modeled, not sculpted out of the terrain. Others here will have ideas I am sure.

If you have an object that is not the size you want it to be then edit its group/instance, and use the tapemeasure tool to pick two points across it [typically two vertices] - let's say the VCB reads '~456,7mm', but you want it to be say '18mm'... then simply type 18mm <enter> [as you would for many of the native-tools that will take VCB inputs] and when the dialog asks if you want to scale everything you must answer 'Yes'. If you now pick the same two points the VCB should now read '18mm'.

Just for some extra tips I suggest you read Eric Lay's RatBird tutorial in CatchUp #5 http://sketchucation.com/catchup/ It shows how using native tools you can create nice meshes.

Me neither. I have never had this issue I have to say. True that I have never even exported enormous section cuts. How big is it (I mean by metres / feet)? Is it not too far from the origin? Was there any CAD import originally?

As has been mentioned 3ds files can come into SU just fine with textures. If you have a 3ds model and no control over it I don't know what to say. If you have a model in 3ds Max the trick is to change the materials from Vray or some other specialized format to Standard. Then they come into SU perfectly. -Brodie

Hi, lamesh: You asked for advice regarding Sketchyphysics. My advice: Persevere. Read the SP subforum, check out the FAQ, Watch the YouTube videos. Dive in, and ask questions. There are several folks with plenty of insight there.

@pbacot said: @chrisjk said: , then extruded that line and thickened the extrusion. How? Peter Yes, sorry - I got interrupted and neglected to come back and finish the post properly. I used extrudeline.rb to extrude the curve and then JPP to thicken it. I could probably have used follow-me with a section of the stair rail and this would be needed for a shaped banister. (Of course, I also first scaled the image using the dimensions on the plan).

@gaieus said: See this topic: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23925 It's caused by too many (or certain) plugins. Not too long, just 5 pages all, so go through and identify which plugin you need to remove/change etc. Thanks..got it.
