SchreiberBike, Thanks for the great tip on the Purge ruby- it's bugged me forever that the purge command is hidden away in SU's menu system. These fanstastic Ruby scripters are victims of their own success- there's so many now that it's a huge task to go through them all to find the ones I like. This one is very useful.

Thanks Dylan, I thought our familiar friend needed some new groovy gear and party a little. Might even make him my default dude. P: ACZero

wow thanks a lot for the input guys its all much appreciated and now sorted, ive pretty much finished the modelling now so i can start texturing up. The unit SU model was mainly for concept art cnc3 is good but i realise it couldnt handle the copmplexity of the model, they have created complex looking units by clever texturing which is what i had hoped to use here- taking the overall textures of the unit and creating a much simpler series of blocks to give the effect that the untextured SU model has again thanks a lot for your speedy responses and help!

Thats what im saying, learn the hard way first so you can understand how its done. That way if there is a problem you understand what us going on with the model and have an idea of where to look.

Andrew, Most of us here keep learning new things and little tips&tricks every day. I still often go through sections of the SU Guide for it documents SU so well that you always find things in it that you don't remember (or do but forget to use): http://download.sketchup.com/sketchuphelp/gsu6_win/gsuwin.html

Really appreciate it Eric, I see the difference on your screenie, For one, I see I need better outliner management, and I was just checking out the old @last tuts; They show having a hidden component category, and physically dragging the selection you want to hide under that heading. I kinda like this idea, so I will know exactly where that hidden label is, when I want to be sure all are on, I'll definately be paying better attention to all these points. I cant hardly get them all back on after hiding. There is one component that stays on in the curtrent job that after hiding all the rest, if I don't pick on the last remaining component, the others wont come back.

oh thanks everybody, i understand now and managed to import again from a block (im using autocad LT 2006 and seemed not to let me purge or overkill or flatten so a block seemed to work ok). I have developed the whole thing now and I have posted it in the rendering gallery. Not so happy with it though. P: syburn
