      Dear Michalis, dear all,

what amazing trees and work 👍 👍

As I'm finally learning Blender (!), I'm at the first level interested by this very instructive thread ++

      About the skp file:
It looks heavy ~15Mb for downloading. It's not that huge though, I just don't use components.
I tested another skp tree, full of components ~400kb downloading. It behaves heavily in SU making rather impossible to load 10-20 such trees. It won't happen with the one a shared.

      TIG's obj exporter thread.

      1. SU exports non welded vertices as obj. Import in blender/edit mode, select all, delete double verts (under the [W] menu). This welds all verts.
      2. The ruby addon, remove inner faces. Very useful to kill non manifolds at once.
      3. be aware of the inverted faces in SU (the blue ones), you may fix it in blender but will mess the exported SU UVs.
      4. SU uses ngons internally and exports triangulated meshes. Terrible topology for subdivisions, displacements etc. The funny thing is that new builds of blender 2.62/bmesh implemented these ngons too. You have knifes, push pulls, insets (SU F tool), arcs etc . And some terrible topology in the end. If you're going for displacements, subdivisions, sculpting.
So, don't subdivide SU meshes. Just render them, apply better textures, unwrapping, materials for rendering (cycles), bumps. But never subdivide, it's logically impossible. You may retopo all these but not practical for archi vis projects.
      5. Components: Explode them before it's too late 😆

I've experienced some difficulty to find the Wikii Inner faces Remover you are talking about.I was remembering this inner faces remover but too vaguely to be able to find it on the forums and have found it into my downloaded plugins repertory. It is not referenced as a normal plugin but it is a reply from Wikii to a Pilou's request.

Just to announce you that the DAZ offer (DAZ Studio + Bryce + Hexagon) is still available until the end of April!

It is a good offer with no bad deal. You get yours serial numbers and upgrades will be free too. The mail announcements are a bit too recurrent 😉

My personal interest goes Mainly to Hexagon which seems to be a good modeler and secondly to "Bryce"

      Dear Dale,
I like this house style: imbricated levels, various poles: each one with its own personality. A house under the sign of the squirrel seems to me.

Concerning the various renders, my vote goes with no doubt on the second one! Very nice style to show just enough reality to integrate the house plans and let imagine a world around and us living into it.

interesting sequence of this thread isn't it?
Thank you again Dale for the reflections and the (pink) souvenirs!

        • we also (in France) had been "infected" by "Orange shag rugs that you could lose a pizza in." 😆

It comes to me that the system is incredibly adaptive. The new "Bad Taste" (well wrapped) seems to me becoming the new "weapon for marketing"

I don't know as much as you both about PH. Starck

agree with your Hieru that "he expresses himself in a manner that is very humanistic and sympathetic"
for me those two pictures express that feeling:

      http://i1.squidoocdn.com/resize/squidoo_images/-1/draft_lens4760142module34681312photo_1242776981philippe_starck_body_art_writing.jpg

Then we have to re-consider and to think about the concept of "mauvais goût" (a typical french word !)

      Hi Dale and Stefan 😄

I remember many years ago to have visited his house with a tv team . a beautiful house bordered by the river Seine. The entrance walls was absolutely covered with pretty no free space with african masks. Questions about that.. the effect was great: gloomy, a bit stressful, beautiful. And at the same time the personality of each mask was something like denied...

In the main room, a collection of sea scenes earthenware was entirely ringing the room.

This collection of very "kitsch" objects once again was strange.

I'm far to like everything because Starck likes to play around the frontier of "mauvais goût"!!
And at the same time he reach sometime to touch genius.

by the way I have discovered the reflective aspect of his work which can lead to a better understanding of his way:

Example: those (seemingly) awful Gun lights:

    • RE: Using Textures - A Really Basic Question

Interested by the same question, I had found some time ago a tutorial developed for Unreal Development Kit Tutorials.

      Tutorials:Adding variation to repeating textures

"Here it is VERY easy to see the repeating, and yes, this could RUIN the believeability"

      http://udkc.info/images/6/6a/Chris_repeatingTex-Image02.jpg

"This is the final result. Some repeating is noticeable, but to fix this, tweak your diffuse textures to fit your desired look. Also, any grime layers you lay over this can be rotated slightly so they do not repeat along the same axis as the rest of your textures."

      http://udkc.info/images/5/50/Chris_repeatingTex-Image08.jpg

I'm far to have understood the complete process, but what I believe the basic is the following:

      • take the seamless texture, decrease any obvious color repeating, multiply it four by four, add with post processing a seamless pattern noise, play with noisy bump or normal maps...
(if someone understand better and in a way we can use it into SketchUP, he will be very welcomed 😉 )

No test from me actually 😕

      stay tuned,
      simon.
