You're not being forced to do that. Why not take the easy route and let the ExtensionStore tool update those extensions that need it automatically?

Are you still using an ancient Pre-2013 version of SketchUp as your profile indicates?

I'm using SketchUp 2021, it's been a while since I updated my profile.

At the start I didn't even know that I have and need ExtensionStore tools, only until after I installed fredospline and tried to use it a warning popped and up informing me that I needed to update it.

Well now everything is working again, thanks for listen to my update pain. 😢 😎

Wow, that's annoying when Fredo plugins stop working from time to time and I'm forced to do some serious and confusing manual reading, clicking through warning messages, downloading and reinstalling this and that before the plugin is working again.

    • RE: Tiny House Attempt

Most people who are interested in small living spaces do so because they simply cannot afford bigger ones.

Without addressing the root causes (supply, migration, income) that drive the need for very small housing, nothing will change. However, since large population groups cannot change the conditions due to which they can't afford largeer housing, the only thing they can do is by coping with these conditions as good as possible - above all, this means "smart furniture", using multifunctional room concepts.

Be a bit hard to sit in that chair tho' unless you had anti-grav device:)

The idea is to put it down when someone wants to sit and put it up when it's not needed. For someone of at least 170cm it's fast and simple to put it down and up. Yes cooking smells are a concern. The upholstery can be washed though. A leather cover might be a better choice.

PS: I think that small spaces should have the least amount of 'Adaptable/Configurations'.
The worst, in my opin, is the pull out bed. Unless it's a single. The next worse is the fold up table, really?
A Tiny House is not camping or making do. It's a home.

I'd say small spaces should have as little as possible but as many as necessary space saving solutions. There smaller the space there more complicated it is to fit different functions and there more trade offs need to be accepted.

Yes, folding tables need to be cleared when folded, and pull out beds can only be used when pulled out, but folding beds or loft beds have other problems. I think that every tiny space solution inevitably comes with specific compromises that cannot be avoided. Some compromises are better than others though and it depends on the user - a cild or student in his twenties might be ok with climbing up a ladder of a loft bed but people over 40 maybe not so much.

I don't like solutions that require a lot of time to set up, concentration and complicated mechanisms.

I've been watching a lot of french cleat videos lately.

My kitchen is too small for a permanent seating area. So I thought, mhh, why not turn an IKEA Pöang chair upside down and hang it from the wall with a French cleat?

Ikea Pöang chairs are comfortable, lightweight and the frame is perfect for a French cleat. It is only necessary to exchange a board on the bottom for a board with a 45° cut. The wooden frame is made of birch or beech plywood, which makes it very easy to obtain wood for the replacment part. It is also possible to simply cut a 45° angle onto the existing part.

It takes about 5 seconds and one smooth motion to raise and lower the chair. No fiddling with a folding mechanism required.

The flipped chair has a width of 82 cm. My kitchen has a height of 300 cm.

Yes Mike, I'm finding the project very interesting.

The stairs is tricky to get right. My proposed ground floor to bottom of floor joists will be 2.1m (approx 7'0"). I will expose the floor joists in order to give the impression of more height. The rise per step will be approx 230mm a shade over the normally allowed maximum in standard dwellings (225mm).

      [attachment=0:3t0cwkue]<!-- ia0 -->Sleeping Loft Stairs.jpeg<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:3t0cwkue]
I've used this type of stairs on a few attic conversions in the past and once the occupier gets used to them they work fine. I have included two hand rails which wrap around the 1st floor partition. These should help to make the stairs safer to use.

I find "box-shaped" space-saving stairs very aesthetically pleasing. They also allow optimal use of storage space under the stairs, which is highly relevant for tiny houses.

As I understand it, the advantage of the other design is that they can rotate and be bought ready made at fairly low cost, in hardware store, ebay, amazon...

I have checked my model several times but I don't understand what I do wrong. I have also named all the groups like Pilou in his first post.

If someone could tell me what i do wrong I'd appreciate it.

Thank you TIG for taking the time and replying my question! And also BIG THANKS to you for all your plugins!

I couldn't stand it anymore and so I decided to reinstall the whole damn windows 10 because my system showed all kind of funky behavior. I suspect there was something fishy going with visual C++. I don't know I am not that splendid computer expert.

I have reinstalled SU and fredo scale and it's behaving nicely, let's see how long that will last.

      Have a good evening!

    • Plug in

      Hi,

I have un- and reinstalled SU 2016 today. After opening the 1st re-installation of SU I saw that the previous extensions showed up. I was thinking they will be uninstalled too in the uninstall process. But apparently that didn't happen. When I tried to use the extension fredo scale it didn't work. The toolbar of FS showed up and I could click on icons in the toolbar but the cursor didn't turn accordingly to the selected tool icon and when I hovered over my geometry the cursor didn't showed any context sensitive behavior as it normally should with eg. fredo scale.

I tried to tackle the problem with deleting all extensions in the app data folder and re installing the extensions but the problem remained.

I know that I need LibFredo6 for FredoScale to work and I have installed both properly.

Any suggestions what might be wrong?

      Thanks!

    • RE: VRay fur renders black and I don't know why

I could resolve the issue by using ThomThom's plugin Material Tools.

It seems that when a solid tool operation is executed with geometry with materials applied to the geometry the material from geometry A might transfer to geometry B and can sit then at back faces or faces invisible from the outside or inside of a component and that can cause the issue.

After I applied Material Tools>Remove from Selection to the misbehaving geometry the issue with the black fur disappeared and the fur rendered normally.

    • VRay fur renders black and I don't know why

I'm using Vray fur for grass on several components. Inexplicably the fur hair render completely black on certain components and on other components it renders how it should be and I don't understand why.

I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to resolve the issue. I've reinstalled Vray. I've deleted all interior lights which were placed inside the component because I was thinking that the light from the inside of the component might interfere with the fur on the outside. I have erased all materials from the misbehaving component so that there is nothing left other than the component with SU default material but fur is still rendering black.

Solutions and suggestions why these issue occurs are highly appreciated!
      Thanks!

    • How do I stop V-Ray fur from growing through other material?

      Hi folks,

How do I stop V-Ray 3.4 fur from growing through other material? First, everything was fine but after I increased the fur length it started to grow through other material like the wood in the picture.

How do I prevent fur from doing that?

    • Outer Shell

      Hi folks,

is there a plugin which performs an operation on a model with the result that just the visible surface is kept?

Outer Shell doesn't do the job, it propts: "one or more ... is not a component or group".

I am glad you were successful too. FYI Trim and Meep purposefully does not remove the components left around after performing the operation. They are all still available in the Component Browser. Run a Purge Unused operation to clean them up.

I suppose you are the Jim who wrote "Trim and Keep", many thanks for that!

    • RE: Solid tools on components

      I also don't understand Peter. 😄

I had a little workaround going which was to create a nested component containing component A and B by copying component A into B, then to transform the former content of component A while in A into a seperate component to end up with a nested component of A and B and then to perform the solid operation and afterwards explode the nested component. This way all instances of the components are affected by the solid operation. However it did only work so far for some of my components because of impractical axis of some of my components.

Thanks Dave your post was very enlightening! The next thing I am going to do after this post (after I have had a look in my fridge) is to install your recommended Trim and Keep extension.

    • Solid tools on components

Hi sketchucation I have a problem.

When I perform a solid tool operation (like trim) of one solid component against an other solid component I would expect that the operation affects all other components of the same instances in the model the same way. But in my modell it doesn't it only affects the two componets on which I perform the solid tool operation. Why is that so? I want all components to be affected.

...I'm relatively new to components and have been mostly working with groups so far.
