Hi, Whaat:
I commend you for developing this very versatile tool. SDS appears to be the first breakthrough tool that puts Sketchup on a par with other modelers.
How about a floating 3d orientation tool so that you can move verts and edges any specified distance and angle that you wish?
If you are looking for ideas for enhancements, may I suggest a series of streaming tutorials made by a professor at Tufts University for Blender at http://www.gryllus.net. These demonstrate many of the capabilities of that program on a parallel to what many of your respondents are requesting.

RE: !Help Please
There may be some incompatible scripts in your plugins folder.
You may need to update an auxiliary or prerequisite ruby, such as progressbar, or something like that.
I know that EventRelay gave me some trouble with other plugins. After I removed that, a similar error message went away.**I see that Autocenterpoint occurs twice in your Plugins drop down menu. One is at the top and the other is the one with the flyout in your illustration.
Do you have two instances running with different version numbers? one way to correct this is to delete them both from the plugin folder and download the plugin again, if that is possible. Or determine which is the problem and delete that one. Restart SU to verify if the error message is gone. This also appears to be a problem with Organizer.rb .
I see the first instance of Autocenterpoint is actually spelled as two separate words and the second instance is one word in the menu display. What's that about?
These are just my observations. Anyone else care to respond? -
RE: How do I do this?
When I download a plugin, whether .zip or .rb, while in Firefox, I right click on the target, a context menu pops up with "Save link as.." option. I default the destination to desktop so that I can distribute to both SU6 and SU7. Occasionally, I have seen where it transfers as a .php or a .txt--why? I don't know. I just dump these and retry the transfer.

RE: 3d pdf
@watkins:
Sketchup also has a free viewer for non-modelers in which you can use the basic navigation tools. This may not be what you need for still images, but I just thought I'd mention it.

RE: Strange things happening
I see that what you are trying to achieve is a symmetrical or mirror image of the the other side of the bag. In order to avoid the knitting that I suggested in my previous reply, you may wish to delete the problematic half of the bag back to the fold and then copy the half bag, then scale the copy -1, then stick the two halves together.
Alternatively, download the plugin Mirror.rb, which can be found through this forum.
Hope this helps. -
RE: Strange things happening
Those dashed lines are "virtual" edges created by the program in trying to deal with the handhole geometry in the bag surface. My approach would be rather tedious, primarily due to my level of experience. I would use the pencil tool and trace over those dotted lines, thus helping to establish the bag plane or surface. Then I would remove with eraser tool one by one, the traced lines that are not essential to the plane. You may have to undo some of these erasures. Keep your eye on locations of endpoints and draw segments between them- don't skip over an endpoint to go to the next one. This is just my way of approaching the problem. Wiser heads would probably say I shouldn't have got into this problem in the first place, but in order to walk you gotta crawl.

RE: Strange things happening
I have come across this condition often.
Keeping in mind that Ctrl Z is never far away, you may wish to do a select on either the grey face or the white face, and once selected, just hit the delete key.
If the selected face goes away, and the other remains intact, you can then proceed with the rest of the model. If both faces go away, then just undo. Then try to trace over the lines. Sometimes this helps establish a workable surface.

RE: Native tool CREATE FACE
Whoa:
Thanks, guys.
I wasn't expecting much attention to this thread.
It is greatly appreciated. -

@perk:
Sorry for the delay in responding. Thanks for your suggestion.
I do not know how to assign multiple keystrokes for shortcuts. And I do not use ruby language interface. -
RE: Native tool CREATE FACE
@perk:
was that before Bill Gates created his shortcut? -
RE: Native tool CREATE FACE
Well...
Learning Ruby code is one of those things on a long to do list after modeling, rendering, laundry, lawn work, and other such irrelevant activities and not necessarily in that order, because some of these seem to take priority--and maybe you know which ones I mean. -
Native tool CREATE FACE
I just wish this tool was available in a right click context menu. I must be the only one who feels it necessary to close faces on tiny triangles and quads. There is an occasional selection in the right click context called "repair tiny triangles" or something like that, but it does not always show up if the program doesn't recognize the gap. Is there a way to move that command to a right click menu?
You can find it under Tools, Utilities, Create Face. You use it after selecting the perimeter of the coplanar segments surrounding either a triangular or quad opening. -
RE: Geometric Tools
Thanks, Remus.
And I didn't mean to drag this too far afield. Thanks for the hint.

RE: My Rubik's Cube model
Can GIMP be used in lieu of Photoshop for the treatments you suggest? Gimp is open source.

RE: Geometric Tools
Hi, Honolulu:
I was looking at Wikipedia's info on Solid vs Surface modelers after that debate between Solo and hebrides, and it quickly got over my head. This question makes me wonder whether SU can be expanded improved any further.
I think you meant in your second sentence that SU is a surface modeler. I think this is intentional to keep the program simple and more accessible--originally for architectural visualization. I am not sure if Blender is a solid modeler or a surface modeler, but it relies on vertices, edges, and faces. What it lacks is a graphic input method like sketchup, albeit there is a plugin for Blender available from an Italian guy.
Sometimes if you really push SU, you can get edgeless faces, in other words SU forgets to draw a line along the edge of the face.
Anyway, I wish I did understand all of this better.

RE: Procrastination, Distractions, Loss of interest...
I was thinking that I was the one with THE PROBLEM! And all the rest of you did everything at light speed. I'M CURED!! I'M CURED!!

RE: My first renders
I am of Italian descent, and shamefully, I do not speak the language. I did study Latin in school, which gives me some insight into written Italian.
I didn't have any trouble understanding your post and neither did Daniel.
I admire your talents. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,

RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members
Yo, remus:
I hope the phrase "have rank" isn't one of those cross-cultural difficulties.
I didn't want to invoke the term "seniority" and create all kinds of other semantic problems.

RE: Tools-----Paintbucket?
Isn't this available on the Google Sketchup Download page as a link called Bonus Packs? Keep drilling down. There's a big fat file of bonus stuff-- I wanna say about 12mB.
Here: http://sketchup.google.com/download/bonuspacks.html
They say they have moved it to the 3d warehouse, however.
