Thanks, Gaieus.
Anybody else?
Whoops, while I am writing this, all of a sudden Pilou has posted.

Global reverse faces tool
I am not sure if there is already a plugin for this, but if not, it sure would be nice. Now, I know I am the only one with high poly models, and after running several of the complex plugins, I got faces all over the place-- some default white and some default grey scattered all over the model. What I am hoping for is a "reset normals" feature that trolls the model and makes all the faces white, without selecting each face or unselecting all of those on the other side of the model that you didn't mean to select. In other words, make all of the face normals have the same "polarity". Does this make sense?

RE: Text on 2D plans
To Wo3Dan:
How do you remove the dimension witness lines and just keep the text? I didn't see any way to do it in entity info, nor was explode available.
mitcorbedit: oops, paulside, didn't mean to jump in too soon.

I see by your new avatar that your nose has gotten longer.
Can we still trust you?

RE: Bug splat with "tube along path"
Thank you, TIG:
I was not aware of the short path condition and will keep that in mind in the future.

RE: Trouble ending a 'Move' command
I would add to this as auxiliary procedures the following:
Use the keystrokes "Ctrl T" to deselect any items currently highlighted but may not be visible on your screen.
Also, hitting the spacebar puts you into select mode for such things as moving and so forth. Using spacebar and Ctrl T helps me verify that I am not going to accidentally involve too many entities in my next procedure.I suggest when you use the selection box, whether all inside or crossing, before you make your move, you orbit around the model to check what you have selected.
And, of course, if the results of your last edit are unsatisfactory, use Ctrl Z to undo.
Best Wishes,

RE: Bug splat with "tube along path"
I subsequently was able to construct the rail on the stair. When I defined the path with a series of arcs with Arc3points. I was doing this within edit component.
After highlighting the path and invoking Tube along path, a failure occurred. Looking at the file after restarting, the selected path showed several small segments of a couple of the arcs were not active within the component or the group formed during the tube forming procedure. This interrupted path is apparently what caused the "crash".
Well, that's my best guess, anyway.
I hope this is helpful to others.

RE: Bug splat with "tube along path"
Thank you all for responding.
I am looking at the process I used and trying to reproduce the conditions. If I figure it out, I will try to post the details of the failure.

Bug splat with "tube along path"
This is posted for the benefit of the community. Please place this post in the appropriate subforum:
SU6 pro just went awol.
I was constructing a quasi-helical rail to a quasi-helical stair component using Tube Along Path. I say quasi- because I had to construct the stair stringers segmentally rather than with either of the native extrusion tools.I added the helical path, consisting of segments of Arc3points, to the stair component using the windows copy, paste routine. When I invoked the tube along path with 12 segments and radius 1", the Sketchup window disappeared and the BugSplat reporting interface opened. For some reason, it will not do an automatic report. It prompts me to go look for the saved data in a local temp folder, where it is saved in zip form and then send it.
Is the Bug Splat thing a clearing house for error reports?
Does anyone know if Google responds to issues involving 3rd party plugins?
This is the 3rd Bug Splat in as many weeks for me. This is the first one I have posted on this forum.

Sketchup preferences openGL options
I have no idea where this question belongs.
Sketchup preferences under OpenGL has a check box to "correct reversed picking driver bug". This is currently unchecked on my machine. I do not know anything about the picking driver or any bugs.
Is anyone familiar with this? -
Delete Duplicates, Stitch Seams, Ultrazoom
This could belong in Wish List, but there may also be some procedures I haven't tried.
I was modeling on a circular floor plan with radially symmetrical features. Many of the features were mirrored and rotate/copy to multicopy them. Unfortunately, in the process of working with a circular floor plan, I had to regenerate the circles, making sure that I used the same segment count. Well, even so, the new circles for whatever reason did not register exactly with the previous circles. This created additional intersections of overlapping circle segments. It even seems that multiple planes were created with microscopic vertical displacements in the Z axis, because while cleaning up the plan I had difficulty in zooming in close enough to discern inference points and large areas of the floor disappeared while editing, so that I had to do some reconstructive knitting.
As a culmination of experience over a measly year and a half, the features in the subject header would certainly be nice to have in SU. These are available in Blender, if you want to go there.
SU needs a duplicate cleaner or a decimator, a seam "stitcher" where you can select "heal to the left, heal to the right, or optimize to center all along the gap, and some way to zoom a whole lot tighter to inspect tiny, microscopic unfilled triangles and such which are created by using some of the more popular plugins.
And then, someone will reply with a way to solve all of the above. I even expect to be corrected on my still rough workflow issues. Bring it on, guru. -
RE: Move Entities
Is this where you click Move and then Shift to make the selected move off axis? or does this apply here? Just an idea.
mitcorbedit. oops. I meant select items, select Move, and then ALT to release from axis lock. Still, is this the appropriate procedure?

RE: Component editing and use as subtraction method
To Gaieus and anybody else.
If there is one thing I have learned over the thirty years since college graduation, it is that you never stop learning.
Another thing I have learned is that there is always someone out there somewhere who has more knowledge than me or is smarter than me and since computers and forums have come into existence these sources of knowledge and wisdom can be accessed for answers or ways to find answers. You guys are part of the source.
Thank you for that.

RE: Component editing and use as subtraction method
Thanks again Remus.
If I had been paying attention, I would have seen the "core an apple" post by Halkun that sort of talks about my issue and Gaieus suggested the same tool.
Thanks again.

RE: Component editing and use as subtraction method
Thanks, Remus:
It has never occurred to me to use the windows cut copy paste tools as part of SU.
Obviously, this has been a part of the program since its early versions. I need to get into the habit of using the keyboard more, which I would prefer if there were quickkeys for some of the input and editing tools other than line, move, select, etc.
I viewed the clip on BoolTools and I believe that this is a script worth having.
Thank you for that link and your early reply.

Component editing and use as subtraction method
Well, I predicted that once I started posting, I would not stop. That's another chunk out of my day.
I have a couple of questions that are probably elementary, but I cannot seem to find in my searches.-
What are the steps to add stuff to an already existing component? Like I made a component yesterday. Today, I want to add some additional entities--lines, faces--to it. Or even delete same to modify the component? All of this done in the model view.
-
I thought there was a method of subtraction using components, or is that groups, where you select two or more components, that are physically intersecting or overlapping each other, then perform an intersect operation(with model? or with selected?) and delete the common elements. And the common elements can be removed in one click, say as a group, or a resultant component. For example, to punch a hole in a complex form such as an organically modeled shell that needs a big window opening in it. In one click, the lines and faces filling the hole are deleted.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

RE: Push and pull
Ok, I see.
I have been using the JPP tool for some time and have found it to be an excellent addition.
Thank you. My apologies for thick-headedness. -
RE: Push and pull
Well, Click:
The only link in any post under this topic is the JointPushPull link provided by Gaieus. If your NUL Transformation reference was supposed to be a link it is either disabled or never was. Perhaps you could mention the site.
