@Chris:
Thanks for another excellent effort in this Loft Tool.
This is to confirm proof of concept in the wild. I remodeled my guitar neck/body heel transition, and it worked very well.

RE: More Can't Close Faces
The downside to working at a larger scale is that you have to translate measured distances from the big scale to the small scale or vice versa during graphic input. I know-- life ain't fair.

RE: Who posts the most?
Now, Gaieus:
You know I wasn't really complaining about access to that link. It is probably important for everyone's comfort level.
I was just throwing in a little "humor" to remind myself about my importance.
Best Wishes,
mitcorbEDIT: The other matter regarding spontaneous disconnect: It may have something to do with my network, it may have to do with the forum controls. Seems to happen after navigating among "your posts", "active topics" and the other links at the top of the page. Even though it says Logout: mitcorb, if I click on a video or topic link in one of the posts, I will get the "not permitted" notice, then I do a page refresh to discover I am not logged in.
I did not really mean to get off topic, so move this to the appropriate forum, please.

RE: Who posts the most?
@Chris:
I don't think everyone has access to that. I just tried and was refused. Or maybe I am the only one denied access to that. I have noticed lately that I lose login status for no apparent reason, from time to time. It gets frustrating in the middle of composing my posts, which are always so deeply philosophical and very important for everyone to read, you know. -
RE: More Can't Close Faces
You may need to zoom way in close almost to clipping and analyze the lines near vertices. Sometimes for whatever reason, faces don't close.
Also, sometimes depending on the contortions you used, you may have some very tiny triangles with open faces. Select all three sides, right click on any side, and in the context menu look for "repair tiny triangles" or similar wording.
If this does not appear, then go to Tools, Utilities, Make Face.Of course, I may have missed the nature of your problem. If there is difficulty selecting, you may have to scale the model up say 10 times, so that camera clipping won't be as much of an issue. Clipping as you may know is when you zoom so far in that the target disappears on the screen as if you zoomed right through the target.

RE: [Plugin] Skin.rb
Utiler:
Best I can tell, Mr. Darrel, the author of Skin.rb hasn't been heard from since he posted the plugin. Maybe Jim, the plugin curator on this forum has contacted him.
I am wondering if someone could take up the skin plugin just to get it consistent even if it will become obsolete. Sometimes you just need a simple operation like this.
Somehow, I was able to get it and the icons. I think I did it by loading an early version, then a later version, and then going back to the early version, or some combination like that. It sets up a drop down call in the Tools menu, called D.B. Tools with a couple of extended options. -
RE: How to reset axes view??
Thanks to Wo3Dan for his comments.
Maybe put a big Duh stamp on my forehead.
I printed out his post and I'm off to practice some more. -
RE: How to reset axes view??
This is no solution-- just an observation:
I accidentally discovered that hitting the control key while orbiting by middle mouse button tilts the camera off global z. I meant to hit the shift key to pan. Of course, you guys already knew this. Now, if there was a way to retain the tilt, rather than a momentary thing...And, in regards to the axes: It sure would be neat to have a floating xyz gizmo like in other modelling programs. And it sure would be neat to be able to call out x,y AND z coordinates to initiate and complete lines or arcs or rectangles. It appears that SU uses xyz coordinates at some level below the user interface, because of some of the Ruby terminology/ syntax I have seen.

RE: [Plugin] Exploded Arc Centerpoint Finder UPDATE May 23, 2013
By the way, Chris:
On your reply to Dave, is there any reason to limit the number of segments to two? It would seem that the more coplanar segments, the more precision. Maybe not. Here again, I have no real understanding of the Ruby language.
That tool saved me a ton of time, because the upper backrest section was done with it, but the lower section webbing was copied one element at a time and individually rotated and spaced.
The dadblamed model is 3.99 MB!I used Tube Along Path for the round sections, follow me on the elliptical tube frame, Fredo Freescale bend tool on the curved work, native pen and pushpull on the rectangular sections. I knew it was going to be a fat file, but I wanted to do it anyway.

RE: [Plugin] Exploded Arc Centerpoint Finder UPDATE May 23, 2013
Hmmm coulda sworn it was a Takamine because mine has the same body profile and your bridge seems to have the same tapered profile as mine. I did a so-so model of mine, but I did not render it.
And now I think I will try to attach a skp of the furniture I modeled using your new tool.
This is not my design and some of the components and connections are not precise.
But, as some kind of tribute to your capabilities, see attachment.
I apparently cannot attach the skp. I will try to do a jpg.

Chris:
I am going ahead and loading the plugin. Does it automatically attach to the cf tools category? -
RE: [Plugin] Exploded Arc Centerpoint Finder UPDATE May 23, 2013
Dear Mr. Fullmer:
I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy.
But thank you, nonetheless. You got skills.Actually, the last sequence is a perfect demo of a higher usefullness of this plugin.
Thank you once again.By the way, you did not confirm if that was a Takamine guitar in your music post.

RE: [Request] Plugin needed- origin of radius
Thanks, TIG:
But wouldn't this be dependent on the model being positioned orthogonally relative to the global axes? Or did I miss something? -
RE: [Request] Plugin needed- origin of radius
Matt:
Are you saying that each segment needs to be same length? And that the midpoints are the determinants, rather than the endpoints? Or does the circle inscribe tangent to the midpoints rather than circumscribe to the endpoints? -
RE: [Request] Plugin needed- origin of radius
Hi, Guys:
Thanks for responding.
I actually used Fredo's bend tool on a tubular frame to make a piece of furniture. Now, there is so much geometry in there that it is difficult and tedious to navigate and make temporary geometry to locate the point of origin.
The webbing on the furniture is a repetitive component. If I could define the point of origin, I could do a rotate/copy array and make short work of this. Also, the "arc" is off the global axis, so would be more difficult to do a lot of setup to do the origin location, but if I did, I would want a method to specify a point in space x,y,z to reposition the temporary setup. I don't see a way to do this in SU. -
[Request] Plugin needed- origin of radius
(Please place this post in the appropriate forum)
Maybe this already exists:
I am working on a fairly complex model. After using a popular bend plugin, I find myself needing to locate the center of the arc, which is now just a series of segments with no arc identity. Now, I am no scripter, but I have seen enough of the ruby syntax to make me hope that someone could make a ruby script that would mark the origin of the radius. One would select the segments, activate the ruby, which would perform the equivalent of determining the perpendicular bisectors of two chords on the would be arc, finding that intersection and placing a construction point and maybe a temporary construction line from the origin to some point on the arc.If something like this is already available, let me know. Thanks, mitcorb

RE: Me and my Guitar
Hi Chris:
Good work on the guitar! Not to mention good work in sketchup and ruby!!!
Is that a Takamine in the videos? Looks great.

RE: How to draw a limit surface from array ?
look at wikipedia, keyword voronoi, convex hull, and the highlighted keywords in the texts. Your diagram looks just like some example illustrations I stumbled on the other day while reading about these concepts.
good luck -
RE: Subdivide and Smooth Feature Requests
Hi, Whaat:
I commend you for developing this very versatile tool. SDS appears to be the first breakthrough tool that puts Sketchup on a par with other modelers.
How about a floating 3d orientation tool so that you can move verts and edges any specified distance and angle that you wish?
If you are looking for ideas for enhancements, may I suggest a series of streaming tutorials made by a professor at Tufts University for Blender at http://www.gryllus.net. These demonstrate many of the capabilities of that program on a parallel to what many of your respondents are requesting. -
RE: !Help Please
There may be some incompatible scripts in your plugins folder.
You may need to update an auxiliary or prerequisite ruby, such as progressbar, or something like that.
I know that EventRelay gave me some trouble with other plugins. After I removed that, a similar error message went away.**I see that Autocenterpoint occurs twice in your Plugins drop down menu. One is at the top and the other is the one with the flyout in your illustration.
Do you have two instances running with different version numbers? one way to correct this is to delete them both from the plugin folder and download the plugin again, if that is possible. Or determine which is the problem and delete that one. Restart SU to verify if the error message is gone. This also appears to be a problem with Organizer.rb .
I see the first instance of Autocenterpoint is actually spelled as two separate words and the second instance is one word in the menu display. What's that about?
These are just my observations. Anyone else care to respond?
