I was just wondering if anyone has used 3d pdfs as a presentation / review format. I've been shown that you can generate these directly from the latest autodesk products. Layers are included as well which is great. I feel like it would be a great way to show people sketchup models. Not everyone has sketchup but everyone has a pdf viewer.

    Has anyone tried this?
    Thanks

Yes, I have. I even have an "example" on RPS website:

      and
      http://www.gaieus.hu/su/boat.pdf

Both were made with the trial version.

        Dear Gaieus,

So how does one make a 3D pdf? What software does one need?

        Regards,
        Bob

There's a few threads here at the SCF, covering 3D PDF's...
Please check the 3D PDF files thread...

If you have Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can use Deep View 5.7 which is FREE from Right Hemisphere... 😄
(If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Pro, please note that you can get a fully functional trial version to test it together with Deep View... 😉 )

          Cheers

Or use Renderplus' SU plugin for that (linked in Chris' first post).

                @watkins:
Sketchup also has a free viewer for non-modelers in which you can use the basic navigation tools. This may not be what you need for still images, but I just thought I'd mention it.

But there is no viewer for SU 7.
So the free SU 7 standard is used.

It does, they re-introduced it for SU7. Download link: http://sketchup.google.com/download/gsuviewer.html

                      Oops, I missed that info.
And the german site is also still on SU 6.
Only the Google Blog had mentioned that other languages for SU7 are ready.
But you can still not buy/download them here.

Thanks for the heads up about Deep View!

                        Question though:
Anyone know how to create a 3d pdf directly from Deep View via Adobe Acobat Pro Extended?

DV directly imports the .skp rather nicely, and it would great if you could simply create the 3d pdf right from DV.
However, it seems that you are dependant on MS Office for the 3d pdf creation.

While this works ok, you lose the scenes/model views when creating the 3d pdf.

Unless I am missing something very obvious.

                        Any ideas are greatly apreciated.
