Thanks for that but when I installed it said it did successfully but I do not see it in my plugins tab. This is why I stuck with XP at home. Life is so much simpler with earlier stuff.

Sketchup 2014 Plugins Folder in Windows7 Professional
I'm new to Windows 7 Pro. I am having a hard time locating the plugins folder. I followed info on the net and in forums that point to C:/user/username/application data or some say Program Data. On my system I see no such directories. I get users/user name/thunbnails, contacts, desktop, downloads, favorites, links, mydocuments, etc. but no application data and I also cannot find any folder called "Program Data. I'm trying to learn how I can install plugins manually. Any help is appreciated.

And thanks to everyone else for your help. -
RE: Intel Xeon E5 2407...Good Enough?
Great News! I installed the GTX 760 2GB card today and everything is working beautifully! I even did some test renders and it is much faster than my Q6600 at home. All is well and the mystery of whether this machine can perform the tasks for me is solved.
The only thing I wonder about is the missing motherboard disc but I hesitate to install the drivers I downloaded from the Supermicro site because everything seems to work. At the same time I can't help but wonder if I may be missing out on some added performance. I never did a reformat without using the motherboard disc after installing the OS. It's Windows 7 Professional 64bit BTW. In the hardware manager under "other devices" there are numerous yellow "!". I'm used to having the mobo disc and right clicking on the device in the hardware manager and installing the files directly. But the drivers I downloaded from the site come as installers so I cannot get to individual files. Aside from that everything seems fine.

I think you'll find it simply made a full width toolbar that you can add other toolbars to.
I think that's what happened. But the original tools were hidden like I had to scroll all the way across to see them. Can someone please just explain how to stack? obviously something's different from google version 8.
If I don't figure it out I will make a screenshot when I go back to work tomorrow..

Tool Bars in SU 2014 Question
I am jumping from SU8 to 2014 Pro. I use version 8 at home but at my job I have to use 2014 Pro. I tried docking my 1001 1bit tools bar like I usually do but it simply took over the whole top shelf. What changed with the docking system? I want to see all my most used plugins like I do in version 8. Is it possible?

RE: Intel Xeon E5 2407...Good Enough?
Thanks for the Info.
I found out what motherboard Its installed on.
Its a Supermicro 1356 X9DBL-iF
Intel C602 Chipset, Dual SocketYou can see full specs here http://www.wiredzone.com/Supermicro-X9DBL-IF-Motherboard-ATX-S-1356-f--Xeon-E5-2400-~10021944~0.htm
I'm trying to see if anyone ever put a geforce card on one of these. Been searching the net. I know it has PCI 3.0 but not sure what card to get. I set the resolution to max and everything is kinda stretched horizontally. I don't like using onboard video.
I was told that as long as some of the software I'm using supports multi-threading well, I should do ok thanks to having 2 processors. It's software that is single threaded that I would have to worry about. My Q6600 machine I use at home is a quad core at 2.4GHz with no hyperthreading and Sketchup and all my software runs just fine and fast enough for me. I'm not or ever been at 3.0GHz. I will be with my next rig though but I will still be using my current PC. I can see some limitations but it's not that bad. Anyway I will find out soon enough. I even looked at manufacture sites that build these work stations and Geforce GTX cards on on the list of recommendation. Why would there be a PCI 3.0 slot and a list of compatable cards if the GPU would limit the system? I will keep researching.

Intel Xeon E5 2407...Good Enough?
Anyone know about these processors? I have a desktop tower with 2 of these quad core CPUs installed giving me 8 cores and 32 gigs of RAM. No one in the studio knows where this rig came from. It's been just sitting there for months, brand new but had a RAID setup. I just say Santa came and hooked me up (I'm the only PC user in the studio...they're trying to Mac convert me.). I know nothing about RAID and not really interested so I pulled the RAID controller hardware out and installed windows 7. The only thing I need to do is find out if the motherboard supports PCI Express 3. I'm thinking of getting the EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 or 660. I want to use this rig to do 3D rendering and animation. I don't think the E5 series is as good as the i7s but it looks good enough to get the job done........but I don't know how far I could push it as I been on a Q6600 at home for the past 5 years and I read that these processors are slower than average in its generation. Think this rig is good for 3D rendering?

First Attempt at a Laptop
This is my first attempt at modeling a laptop. I used my wife's old laptop as reference. What's left to do is the side ports (USB ports, power cord jack, DVD drive, Ethernet jack, headphones, HDMI, and VGA for monitor) The keyboard was very meticulous. I ended up placing non-extruded text on the keys one by one. I think I need to shrink some of the fonts down though. Didn't realize the size until I rendered it. I am also looking into lighting and staging techniques for products such as these. I used Kerkythea for rendering.

Architecture Tools coming for Blender Community! Must See!
There is a company that took Blender's engine and made an awesome piece of software I think any Sketchup user who's into Architecture/interior design would love....and it is said to be given to the Blender community free!

Hi, Mistro:
I looked around and found an older thread in this link:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/sketchupissues/gN4yhIK3tGYIs it indeed your graphic card settings?
Thanks mitcorb! It's funny because I found that same thread earlier and remembered I never set my graphic card settings after my last reformat. But still not sure if that is the cause because I reformatted months ago and did many Sketchup projects since with no problem. But then again, I recently did a windows update so maybe something got reset? When I went in the Nvidia control panel it was on "let the 3D application decide". So I set it to high quality instead so applications will use the card settings and Sketchup is running more smoothly.
If it happens again, I will report it here. -
Runtime Error
Hi. I been using Sketchup for a few years now and I never experienced this error before. Usually my Sketchup runs smooth, specially since I learned to use the openGL and purge regularly. I notice lately that it is running slower than usual. Like a lot of lag when moving the view around.
Then suddenly I got this and Sketchup shut down
Does anyone know why this would happen?

RE: 1st Render Farm....Need Help
Thanks for giving me another goal in life Solo. That machine you described will most likely be my personal beast one day. I'm not sure what their budget is but I do know they already purchased the work station machines which are most likely IMacs. Don't think the budget will allow the beast but I will bring it up anyway....who knows right?
It doesn't have to be such a beast right now. I think they would rather stay under $1000,00. As long as I can get some decent renders on a machine away from my work station.
btw, is there a link to a thread with the Thea beta guy with this "beast"? I would love to check it out.

What render engines will you be using?
I will probably be starting with Kerkythea but plan to move on to Thea Render hopefully if they can purchase it. I will also have Blender Cycles too. Nothing too fancy.

1st Render Farm....Need Help
I want to get a render farm going in the studio I am about to work in. We will be working on Macs. I am the one responsible for getting my Sketchup station going.....they are funding it. I never built a render farm before but I know I will need one for this job. I have to give them precise instructions on what to buy but I have zero knowledge about building/buying render farms.
My first instinct was to get the cheapest Quad core system with the most RAM I can find and stick a Nvidia card in it with good CUDA support then network that tower to my workstation. I have a feeling I can find a more efficient solution. I see many approaches and opinions to doing this. I could use some advice from this community on how to proceed. Thanks in advance.

Working with a Mac with Sketchup Questions
I been using a PC for over a decade. It's not that I do not like macs....I just never focused on saving up to get one. I like the non proprietary swapping of parts on a PC. I also had the feeling that many of my favorite software have inferior mac support. I often see mac users having to wait for support or some software simply not for macs at all. I am used to the windows platform and dealing with multicore systems. On my own home system I am saving to get a good graphics card with good CUDA support. I don't know how this kind of info translates when it comes to using a mac. How does a Mac handle rendering compared to a PC? Can I work on a Mac and bring the files over to a PC for rendering and is it complicated? (don't want them to buy another Mac just for rendering)
I am about to work in an animation studio where I will be working on a mac. I will be the only one in there working with Sketchup and Kerkythea and possibly Thea Render. I need to confirm with the staff that what I need to work with will be fine with the mac or else I will have to tell them to get a PC in there. The manager said it will be running parallel software. can anyone explain to me what this means and if I can get the same satisfaction that I have on my PC for all my Sketchup and rendering needs? I'm also concerned about plugins and do they all work on mac systems?

RE: Sketchup Free/Pro Question
I think I will be fine. It's for the studio's computer. As long as I have my faithful SU8 on my home system, I have no worries. It's not like what's on my personal PC is gonna change. For the record, they decided to just get the pro to be super safe and "professional". All is well. Besides, I will get to see what it's like to use the pro version for the first time.

RE: Sketchup Free/Pro Question
We decided to just buy a pro license. My only other issue now is getting v8. I'm worried some of my plugins may have complications so I will poke around about my concerns. Thanks for your replies. I will continue asking in another thread already asking about buying v8 pro.
