Nice clean model & render πŸ‘ IMHO the lighting inside the house (during daylight) lessens the contrast in the image, although it seems to be a trend at the moment.

      John

Thanks Tadema πŸ‘ I think I get what you mean about the contrast. I have no skills in photoshop so ATM I am relying purly on the renderer. I use the lighting as a device to compensate. Seems to give the image some "cred":D If you would be so kind could you post an example image of "more contrast" to assist my learning curve it would be most helpful.

(Edited) oh I think I now what you mean now. I was a landscaper/designer and have had professional photography done. The photographer shot at dusk and has about a 5 minute window in which to shoot (twilight) The image was meant (perhaps unsuccessfully) to look like twilight. The sky is a twilight sky as is evidenced by the orange/yellow cast to the sky to the far right. Room for improvement perhaps πŸ˜‰

    • Perth 2 story house render

2 story house sml.jpgHi all, I am trying to get a diverse modelling/rendering folio together. This is my first attempt at an exterior building render (arch Vis), thought I would post. It was done with SU Make and Raylectron renderer, there is no post production at all. I for one always lookout for members models/renders in the forums. I love to see what fellow members are up to πŸ‘

The smart way would be using a shit of light emitter material instead of a thousand LEDs... this is the trick mostly used to simulate lighting facades such as shopping or facades...
Based on your render engine there are different tips and tricks.
to have an overview of the technique please search :"apartment night texture"
Also this may give you some ideas: https://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=2954

Hi Majid that,s what I did, the LED's are octagons (red) which were made into light emitters. I am interested in what you thought the Led's were?

I totally understood you, you modeled ll the lights and then replaced them with instances that does not produced remarkable saved time.
I mean a totally different approach, or sort of trick. the same trick that is used to simulate a fire: an image from fire flame ( that is also emitter) + an opacity mask..
You can mimic all the lights you have in a single texture like that and using the appropriate opacity mask, eliminate unnecessary parts and this way reduce emitter faces as much as possible... a bit tricky but time saving.

Hi Majid I misunderstood, I will revisit as soon as I can give it the proper attention and thanks for the heads up πŸ˜„

Thanks L i am. So far this version (#60 in this series) about 12 hours. Mainly due to modeling aerodynamic surfaces and modules so if I can get this done in another 12 I'll be happy. The radiator outlets will exhaust onto the engine/transmission cover hopefully directly onto the lower surface of the rear wing. The exhaust will also exit near this outlet and have a baffle to stall the rear wing for straight line speed.

Am I reading you correctly. This is number 60, that you have done?

Hi Box thanks so much! I had breakthrough, what I was doing was trying to modify your model for practice and was drawing lines in "free air" such a newbie mistake πŸ˜† . Then I realised that starting with a box and modifying faces and edges is the way to go. Have attached a rough render. Need to work out how to do seems, tufts and other real world imperfections as well as getting around materials.

Hi Box and thanks mate. If I turn on hidden geometry I find what appears to be a planar is not a planar. Evidenced by if I try and modify your model (B) is fine as I would expect and (C) wont make a face also as I would expect. I am obviously missing something fundamental here and perhaps key to understanding the process. Sorry for what may seem a stupid question, but I just don't get it πŸ˜•

      Is "Quad face tools" key?

Chair SUK.skpHi Guys, there is obviously a logic I fail to see so I failed at this attempt. Have attached the model of my attempts, which is actually embarrassing. In the model is a sketch of what I am trying to resolve the model too. Am not asking anyone to model it for me, but could somebody please put me on to the logic of it, as I just dont get it yet 😞

Edited have attached the failed render/model

Hi Box, you are a champion mate πŸ‘ Its a long story but I do not get hold of Subd until 3Pm this arvo (long Story) so I had a go with other plugins and got close but not close enough. I need to make a hybrid of the chair in the image and "merge" it with another chair design. the work you did saved me many hours of coming to terms with SubD. Even though for reasons of personal integrity and the fact I need to heavily modify the design I will need to start from scratch. Studying the raw geometry of your model and how that juxtaposes with the end SubD effected outcome is gold mate, thank you πŸ˜‰ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

And thanks for your encouragement πŸ‘ CJ

Thanks Heiru, had a look at that. I am trying to get my head around Subd ATM. Can I assume a combination of SubD and artisan utilising the sculpt tool for the little details such as where the fabric deforms near corners etc? any other important plugins/techniques that would benefit?

Hi all, I need to do a model of the attached image. I have Artisan as I assume that would be a requirement for such a model. This model will stretch my skills like no other, even if I can even come close at all.
Can some of you in the know please give me to some suggestions of you tube tutorials (or other sources) that may assist in achieving this model. I am frankly feeling sick just thinking about trying to achieve this πŸ˜‰ 🀒 πŸ˜„

Hi Liam thanks for the insight. Your render inspired me to try again πŸ‘
Anyway it seems the server modules had a photo texture on them that was somhow interacting with the emitters causing the problem. I am rendering with ease once I removed them.

    • RE: Sketchup blender transition

Sincerely thanks guys πŸ‘ πŸ‘ I did a short course in Blender (Modelling) 12 years back (knowledge now lapsed) and understand the UI is 🀒
Mike is there any talk of anyone developing a plugin for Blender with a Sketchup UI? That would rock!!

ATM (subject to change) am thinking of keeping with SU modelling and exporting to Cycles. Am thinking if I can get my head around cycles, then I can look again at modelling in Blender at a later stage, reducing the parallel learning of blender modelling and rendering and required associated learning curve. Has anyone had experience in skethup to Cycles render or have an opinion on this approach?

Is there a plugin for Skp to Obj as I am using make.

Sorry for all the questions πŸ˜•

Hi all, am considering learning blender and know there is a seriou learning curve involved . I believe the render engine is very good. Is there others on here who have had the experience of this transition?
Truth is I will always use SU for some things. Have no specific questions but would like to know others experience and insight/perspective πŸ˜•

      Thanks
