I think you are on the right track. You will need to right click intersect faces then remove bits you do not need. I suggest you scale up the "Cutting bits" so the edges go beyond the faces of the bits you will need to avoid any confusion when sketchup intersects.

Looking for a brief or challenge....Please.
Hello all, its hot out there ...approaching 38C today, so I will be staying indoors but need a "mission" and I want to produce something for my sketchup and rendering folio.
I am not sure how to pose this, but I would like to start a thread to invite a brief/briefs from forum members that others could respond to, rather than concocting their own. Would anyone care to post any ideas to those ends? -
RE: Christmas doodle
A belated thank you Pbacot and Chris for the wishes and comments.I wrongly called that a "doodle" it started that way but in fact it became quite laboured
Hope you both have a great year and beyond

RE: SubD examples and models
Hi Hornoxx, would you mind giving us a look at the model before you subdivided? I am curious about SubD.

RE: Cant match the floors in my model
If I read correctly you have not drawn them accurately. They will never align as drawn.

RE: Cant match the floors in my model
Could you also attach a prior Skp version say 16 or 17?

RE: Berney Arms Drainage Mill
"Physical sky" is new to me. Is that done in sketchup and translated by your render engine or is it the render engine where it is applied?

RE: Berney Arms Drainage Mill
Really nice work chedda
did you use a HDRI environment? -
RE: Reading Room.
Hi Mike, could I suggest using the sun in sketchup and ajusting so the light streams in through the window onto the chair or whatever looks good and then rendering that?

RE: The "Duh!" thread (aka the Doh! thread)
You probably missed this, too. If you want to place the same radius on other corners, double click near them.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! -
RE: Assistance with solid Boolean for printing
Thanks Box, you must be an owl. I awoke to find the printer guy fixed it with a program that "fixes" geometry.

Understood, thanks mate

Assistance with solid Boolean for printing
Hi all, have have my first 3d printing project which is a bit of an emergency (like really) Box has been very kind in assisting me with the model for printing. But Box is in Sydney and would be asleep now. I tried to make a required technical change but due to my ignorance of 3 d printing received a note from the printer guy saying my efforts to modify Boxes model have stuffed it up

Could somebody please make "A" look like "B" for me to convert to an STL? I did the "Boolean" by intersect faces, but another way is required it seems. Assistance would greatly appreciated. -
Skp to STL converter
Does anyone know of a plugin to convert an Skp file to an STL?
Cheers

RE: Need a leg up.
Concept lamp 1.skpHi Box, have attached a sketch model. it is just loose ATM but just to give you an idea.
I have not given thickness to the main body but it wiould need ti be very thin as wieght is everything in this project. I have also notdone the bottom bit that would entrap the lamp. -
RE: Need a leg up.
I need to think about how trap the "lamp" (a 200x50x0.5mm flexable oled) and how the "head" will be affixed to the Carbon fibre "rod" or more correctly "tube"

If you attach the model we call tell you if it is printable or how it needs to be corrected.
Thanks Box, that is very generous! Problem is i designed the lamp for moulding and laying in carbon fibre ( its only an easthetic skin) so I will have to start affresh. I will start to model somthing conceptual now. will take a couple of hours. Will get it to you ASAP
