I have also spent some of my university life time as a waiter - so I am inclined to show my appreciation for good service with a good tip. Most of the time if the servers are attentive - 20%, if they are really good 25% If they are really stinkers, I'll still drop 10% since they just might be having a bad day. At most coffee shops they get more per hour than the standard wait staff at a restaurant, so I am not as compelled, but if the "barrista" has a good attitude, good smile etc. I will drop a buck in the tip jar.

RE: Seamless Stone Textures?
thanks David. I see they have GSU components and cad symbols as well. Good resource.

Very creepy. And Sad. Like part of a Mel Gibson armageddon movie set.

RE: What motivates us?
A couple of months ago my wife and I went to the AIA National convention in Miami. One of THE high points of the three days of predictable and technical seminars was the keynote talk given by Daniel Pink. His address covered Fred's video and a bit more. Got to speak to him for a few minutes at a book signing later that day -- really nice guy, for a lawyer
He has two books that I suggest as really good reads -- A Whole New Mind (why right brainers will rule the future) and "DRiVE" (The Suprising Truth About What Motivates Us) which is the long version of the video.
The convention center is in the Art Deco district which was enjoyable. Was nice to experience the Miami preservation spirit. Was hoping to see the very cool CSI-Miami office building, but alas, that building is the Federal Aviation Agency Credit union building outside of Los Angeles, where most of that series is shot by the way. Hollywood.

Seems to be great fun, but I think I will stick to Chucks' new plugins for now.
Link?
cadmunkey - sorry for the mixed metaphor - The "killer" announcement came out about the same time Chuck Vali announced his plugins. http://www.valiarchitects.com/
I intended my comment to make a comparison of my sticker shock for the $2,900 renderer versus the very reasonable ($15 to $39 each for pro, free basic) and usefull Instant roof-road and grader plug-ins.
Since then, there was the announced release of "Luminon" which seems to be a very cool, feature laden and similar rendering program at about 1/3 the cost of the "killer".
-
RE: Lumion
Just looked at the latest Lumion ad. They have priced it at 749 Euros, which seems more achievable than the render killer which seems a bit out of $ight. Of course you get what you pay for- sometimes. I will be interested in seeing some comments comparing both of them. The "killer" looks really good, but is "overkill" for my needs, however Lumion might be a better fit. I will keep watch and hopefully find time to play with some demos.

Very funny Dave. Sent this to my math teacher son-in-law

Really tough architectural critics in Australia.
Gives one a second thought about being a designer in OZ.
AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION
Jan Utzon βbashedβ near Sydney
Pritzker Architecture Prizeβwinner Joern Utzon never had an easy time in Sydney, Australia, once his iconic design for the cityβs Opera House was under way. Now, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports that his son, Jan Utzon, was attacked in nearby Manly this weekend while on a trip to oversee the buildingβs remodeling. Utzon received bruises to his face and knee, but wasnβt particularly fazed by his misfortune. "It's a real testament to him that he said that this event hasn't tarnished his view of Sydney,β state Member of Parliament Mike Baird says. βWe appreciate that, and hopefully he can accept our sincere apologies on behalf of Manly."

[quote="Pixero"]Another teaser for "the rendering killer".
I just saw the release announcement in the Daily CatchUp. looks like the rendering killer is also a budget killer at USD$2,990.00
Seems to be great fun, but I think I will stick to Chucks' new plugins for now.

RE: Valiarchitects - plugins
I agree with everyone, this is a great find - thank you Chuck for creating these time savers. I have gone through the tutorials and will be downloading the free versions this morning - probably upgrading by lunch time!

RE: Yes we can
Most good drivers would pay more attention and slow down to "filter" but I think cell phones will need to be confiscated to make it work across the board, or perhaps a signal disabling device that goes on with ignition. Too many distracted drivers out there for me to feel safe.

RE: AutoCAD help (resave please!)
Here is is - I saved it in .dwg in version 2004. The .dxf version is too large to save on the forum. If you need it we can do it by PM on a large file service I use

RE: INTERIOR LIGHTS
Davi,
which renderer are you using? In Podium, you can add a grid of "omni lights" that illuminate the space but are not seen themselves. You can adjust their effect but changing light intensity and by changing the vertical distance from ceiling to grid. I don't know how many other systems have this sort of feature.
-
RE: Remodel house and new Garage
I get those strange reflected lights with Podium too. Just a slight turn in the view usually makes them go away.

RE: Marvins_dad's Gallery
Great images and impressive body of work. Too bad the client opted for the Greek temple look, but you guys handled it well. The interiors are very well done.
Some of your earlier studies would have been more relevant to 2010. Is this building in a historic area that prompted their need for the 2000 year old look?

RE: UGLY Sketchup Icon !

I am almost sure you can find free programs to convert any image into a windows icon.
True- I found four without looking hard (I picked "image2iconConverter"). Easy to convert and in windows, just right click the icon, go to properties, change icon and pick the icon from where ever you stored it. Very easy

RE: Plugin request - Exterior walls with joints
The 1001 bits tool has a routine that does the mirror image of what you need. I tried to trick it into making beveled slots instead of mullions, but was not sucessful. Maybe Goh Chun Hee might know how one of his tools could be used, or might be able to modify one?? Might be worth asking him since it would be a routine that many of us could use.

RE: Forgotten plugins
Chris -(whippersnapper)- thank you I Just found it again - never thought to look at the sticky!
I can see that it would be a lot of work, and would probably get the most use on the more obscure or not often used tool/plugins, but would be handy especially for intermittent users like me with big time gaps between use.

Ever gone down your list of plugins and wondered "what's this one for" or looked for a plugin that you do not use often but forgot what it's called?
Would'nt it be great to have some sort of way to right click and select "see sample" and it either opens a webpage with a small video showing it in action or even a discription.
Pete,
I know exactly what you mean, and I recall seeing this exact solution but it is lost in space somewhere. Some time ago one of the forum's elite made GIF's of handfull of plugins and other functions, which I thought was a cool idea, but was a lot of work to do I guess. I remember commenting on the thread but haven't been able find it in my post archives. Maybe someones memory will be jogged- my ageing graycells have gotten this far, hopefully there is a young whipersnapper out there that will remember I will continue to look. I thought it was a good idea back then but it slipped through the cracks.
