      Euterpe,

Take a look at this thread in the plug-ins forum:

      http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=8906

Go down about four posts to the discussion of the "tree factory" plug-in by Richard Jeffrey. This may be something you could play with since it is a manual program. If you get really good at it, you might be able to create a more automatic version and sell it back to us to offset Rich's and my service invoices

Very cool - I tried the cross-eyes from about 18" and the terrain thing jumped out of my screen. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Some years ago "steriograms" were quite popular, seemingly random printed images but if you stare/cross eyes the hidden image pops out. Koipetta, your image is more representational rather than hidden. Have you tried to model anything else?

Obviously written by a judgemental someone who never opened the program and never looked at any of the outstanding works in the gallery. TIG hit the turkey on the head. Probably never did anything in his misrable twisted little life except bitch (how about that for being judgemental)

"It's a typical pseudo-intellectual diatribe from an utter twat, who has never built [and will never build] anything of merit - even a SKP model. If you re-read it you can see that it doesn't even reach a proper conclusion: it just throws out some ill-considered and conflicting opinionated thoughts"

A few of the seven people who made comments on the article were GSU users and were more realistic.

The Japanese Android is kind of creepy! I saw another version of this where she (it) is sitting and the techkies were adjusting the eye and mouth movements.

Here is the price list I just received from "Zebra" for the holograms -

      "James

    • RE: Holographic models

Holoxica got back to me quckly [ better than I thought it would be. Still at 400$, only for a select clientel.

      "Dear Mr Smith,
Thank you for the query. The size starts at 20x30cm (~8x11.8" - page size) costing approx. US $400 + postage and any applicable taxes. A 30x40 cm (~8x15.7") hologram costs approx. US $742 + postage and tax.
You would need to provide a 3D model of your design in Sketchup or 3DS Max, (AutoCAD may also be possible) and decide on the orientation/view you would like. The orientation is landscape and the hologram needs to be illuminated by a single halogen spotlight. We can also supply a lighting kit and a frame if desired.
I remain at your disposal for any complementary information.
      Best regards,

      Javid"

Zebra is going to think about it for a while longer:

"Thank you for submitting an inquiry. We will be contacting you shortly.

    • RE: Holographic models

The Holoxica looks very interesting too, but only produce a 20cmx30cm image. Neither of these manufacturers are publishing a price for their product. Must be a scary amount. The Zebra image goes up to an impressive 24" x 36" (60x90 cm). I'll bet that has a BIG price tag.

Take a look at the video in this link. This company is taking 3D output, including Sketchup, Revit etc. and creating a hologram on a sheet of reflective plastic. Looks very cool in the video, would love to see just how effective it is in person.

    • RE: How do I get rid of these lines

You have a very thin roof plane and you are seeing a "ghost" of the wall below. Add some thickness to the roof, which will make the white line go away and also make the roof appear more realistic. The exposed edge of a roof is typically from 6" to 8" thick.

I am probably not the best to answer this but i'll give it a shot:

Can you use SketchUp for mechanical work?
I have seen very detailed piping and duct drawings done in sketchup. What sort of mechanical drawings are you looking to do?

I am in a aircraft club and wish to have a CAD program our club can use and share ideas with.

Can we save drawings in a comnon place like our web site?

The .SKP files can be saved easily, Need more information on how you would be saving them Some drawings can get quite large.

Is Sketch up suited to collaboration by members of varying levels of CAD skill?

Sketchup is not really CAD, but it is very easy to learn and your group could catch on quickly I am sure. Getting together in a group for sharing skills is more or less what this forum is all about so I am sure your members could do the same

      @unknownuser said:

Will it cost much? Our club runs on dues, so we have very limited financial resources.

Google sketchup is a free program. For what you seem to be doing, it should be adequate especially for beginners. Post some of your ideas and what sort of things you intend to draw and you will get plenty of help, hints opinions from the members of this group

Please suggest Sketch up features, or tutorials related to each of the above question?

The tutorials are on line at google and take a look at the link on the home page of sketchucation for the various forum subjects, tutorials. Check out the new user forum. Lots of your questionswill be answered there. The foirum has a search feature so you can probably find some answers easily. If not - just ask.

Good luck and have fun - ๐Ÿ˜„ and show us what you are up to!!

    • RE: How to enhance my work

Looks pretty good. Maybe some work on the lighting - seems to be hot spots. Try a few of the other renderer trial packges and see if any of them work better for what you are doing. Check out what is available in the gallery. Give some thought to some multi-stage work, like using photoshop or Fotosketcher for some special effects after running it through the renderer. I am no master at rendering, and only moderatly adequate critic. ๐Ÿ˜† Keep going in the direction you are going and post a lot.

Pardon my ignorance if this is too obvious but if you have 20 copies of a component, say a window, will it select just one for editing, then go on to another component group of say, doors etc. since change in one affects all?

      Thank Pilou
I have been looking for ways to liven up my classroom presentations to help keep the students awake during some of the very dry stuff - this looks good. I also found an interesting package called "Prezi"

      http://prezi.com/index/

that lets you zoom in and out, rotate around, add text and photos for a very un-typical powerpoint type presentation. they have a free and pay versions - also a substantial education discount
