Back edges are a raster display thing so they won't show if you are rendering in Vector or Hybrid. With SU2019, you could create a scene using a style that shows the Footings layer with dashes. You'll probably want to use the Wireframe face style with the dashes. Then in LO stack viewports with the different scenes so the footings can be displayed with the dashes and the rest of the model as solid, in the other viewport. This is much easier now in LO2021 since you can use a single scene for the two viewports and control which tags are visible and which tags use dashes.

On a PC all Auto-Saved files are now found here. C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\SketchUp\SketchUp 2020\SketchUp\working\SKETCHUP\RecoveredFiles Change the SketchUp version number to suit your needs... Such files are no longer kept with the model. This folder-path is 'hidden' - but using the path pasted into a Windows Explorer address bar should take you there, if you don't have folder-options set to shown hidden files/folders...

The built in templates are stored here C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2018\Resources\en-US\Templates While the custom templates are found here C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2018\SketchUp\Templates And as Pcmoor has shown, the quickest way to your custom template is to click the folder icon.

It might well be because of the changes to the way SketchUp references objects with IDs. This has recently changed. Frankly I think that the present result us as it should be !

@jerrymich said: What causes the faces to be reversed? A common cause when it's things like walls is that the user starts with by drawing the perimeter which creates a face with the back face up. Then they draw lines for the interior walls before extruding them up with P/P. The walls will be inside out and if you orbit to look at the bottom, there's no faces at the bottoms of the walls. Although this might be unexpected, SketchUp is doing the right thing. It's the same as pushing a hole into a face. If you delete the face representing the floor and leave only the face at the bottom of the wall, you'll get the correct extrusion. Of course you could also reverse the faces at some point. It's a good idea to stay on top of face orientation and fix incorrect orientation as it happens. Much less work and less likely to create problems down the road. Keep in mind the back face color on top of a face drawn on the ground plane is normal since it is expected you'll make it a 3D shape.

Jerry, Perhaps creating a railing set at a mean ° that you can scale using FredoScale(free plug-in): "Box Planar Shearing" would be a solution?.(see .skp below) This method will maintain all vertical rail parts 100%, and only slightly alter the raked parts as long you are scaling ± within a few degrees of the mean° default rail set. I used "target mode" while having "Box Planar Shearing" selected to alter the mean°(38.5°) rail set to parallel the new stair set(37.8°). It will take a little practice to get used to FredoScale, but just experiment and see if it suits your needs. Best Regards, Charlie sketchup railing_38.5.skp

If you deleted guides in SketchUp, those lines for your footings would be gone. When you update the reference in LO, the viewport will show the state of the SketchUp model when it was last saved. We should talk.

If the folder with the exact same path doesn't exist on the new computer, SketchUp will not be able to make the link. Can you not edit the location by clicking on the icon just to the right of the text field?

I usually find that the scale of text and other graphic elements usually relevant for a D size drawing is not going to work for 11x17 or smaller presentation. I also usually find that things are so different by the time I get from small format presentations to the working drawings this is a moot point. Dimensions needed for preliminary presentations are minimal in my approach, and may not even be the same information as wanted as for working drawings (overall height of the building vs. framing heights etc.). What I keep trying to do is create stationary that can be used on new SU models. So ideally a small scale and a large scale stationary will be available, Just reference the new project model.. adjust the model references to the size of the new building etc. Titles are ready, etc. and time is saved this way instead of blowing things up and down.

Let me edit the post for simplicity. I went through many steps trying to figure out what was going on, but here's the final way I fixed it. There was no problem at the arch top. The problem is where the two sashes meet. they meet on a single edge, one edge has four faces. To fix I push-pulled the bottom of the top sash down slightly (in reality sashes lap more than that. I erased the face to look inside, selected the new face between the sashes plus the edges (double click), group and delete (be sure any left over edges are gone). Then draw an edge to bring back the top sash bottom face. Couple comments: Sashes overlap for the most part, you see one lock rail primarily, not both rails. Muntins are usually not as thick as the sash, they're recessed from the face, both sides. Vinyl windows may not have much recess. Sorry for the size of the picture, only good shot I could find. Jerry, I use CleanUp2 all the time and I've never had it explode anything. We'll probably never know now what really happened to your model but it would be interesting, if you redraw it and try again. Save the file first and then run the extension.

Hi Jerry, Yes! You can do that. There are a number of ways to accomplish it but if the component is one you would use in other projects on a regular basis, You should probably put it in a component library. I've written about doing this several times. Here's one link.

This one-liner copy+pasted into the Ruby Console + <enter> will make a file named 'shortcuts-N.txt' on your Desktop, where '-N' is the SketchUp version, it then opens the file. f=(File.new(t=File.join(ENV['HOME'],'Desktop',"shortcuts-#{Sketchup.version.to_i}.txt"),'w'));f.puts(Sketchup.get_shortcuts.sort);f.close;UI.openURL("file;///#{t}")

Is it possible that the active layer in LO on which you're trying to place dimensions is lower in the stack than the one containing the SketchUp viewport? If that is the case, it isn't really that you can't add the dimensions and labels, you'r just doing it underneath the model so the viewport is masking them. Try turning off the visibility for the layer containing the SU viewport. You might find a bunch of dimensions and labels.

It seems you are drawing on geometry that is on a hidden layer and in the same (editing/drawing) context. If the geometry were grouped and not in the current drawing context, then you wouldn't get this message. SketchUp separates geometry when grouping it, not like in other programs by different layers. You may also see a similar warning when drawing over geometry that is hidden but still in the same context, not separated by a group.
