What engine did you render with? The cap plastic material is spot-on. (I was just trying to do a similar material recently in vray, so curious how you got there.)

I used Thea. I'm not sure if there is any similarity in the material system, but the cap plastic is just a basic clear glass with 20% Roughness and 40% Roughness Tr.

I can see what you mean now Brooke. I could probably rearrange some of the lights and reflectors so that the waist doesn't get lost in the background, but it will be quicker and just as effective to do it in post.

The bottle does have some scratches and a subtle amount of bump, but it doesn't show up too well.........and when I increase the values it just looks unrealistic. Again, maybe that's something that I can do with PS.

      a headless (and mismatching) reflection

Not sure what you mean. Maybe it's because the area above the label is smooth and doesn't have the same kind of reflective interest as the ridged base?

No problem. I was originally going to post it to your thread, but I didn't think it was 'simple' enough.

I've got to get some work out of the way, but I have another model and proxy set I will share later in the week. Here's a sneak peek:

I agree. You could add a smoking stogie to the ash tray as if he's just walked out of shot.

Very nice - I like it a lot. It could do with a touch more contrast but you can sort that out in post-pro.

If you were thinking of doing any more with this, things like distortion on the wall and bumps in the rug would really help to sell the image.

So, when are you going to model Mies? πŸ‘Ώ

Here's the result of an interesting side project. It was mostly an exercise in honing my Artisan skills and experimenting with a more creative approach to product visualisation.

I've also attached the model proxy for anyone who wants to experiment with it.

    • RE: Is there an easy way to slice a model for 3D printing?

I wonder if he's talking about the slices that 3D printers put down in order to produce a model? In which case there's no need to slice up the model at all as something like CADspan should do the trick.

The great thing about challenges is that they push you to try things you wouldn't if you play it safe and pick a subject yourself.

Alternatively you could adjust the perspective in the photo (using PS or similar) unil you get some good red and green axis lines.

He looks like a character!........I hope Pipocas pulls through his problems πŸ‘

Thanks Mike. Thankfully his medication has started to kick in and he's been tumbling around like a puppy again.

He's got loads of weird habits from his feral days: he tries to dig into rugs as if he was excavating a bed in the dirt. Up until recently he had to share the house with a cat so he mimics cat behaviour in order to get attention. Luckily he hasn't picked up the habit of biting cables - my last cat was always doing that and I've still got conduit pipe covering all my exposed cables.

I've got no excuse. I've been out clubbing with friends and the time change has thrown me. I'm trying to resist turning on my PC as I'll probably end up modelling all night.

With my user name I was trying to mix up my real name with an interest with Egyptology, but only recently realised that it was a pretty common Japanese name. It seems to catch a lot of people out.

When the haze has cleared, it would still be good to hear if you have any thoughts on the truangulation issue. Think of it as splitdonut in reverse.

      Sort of.

In this case I recreated the new profile I needed using Extrude Edge by Rails. I selected the quads option when prompted and then used QFT to map a texture.

I then smoothed the mesh thinking I had done what I wanted, but then found that there were a few mesh anomalies that prevented QTF from doing it's job properly.

Luckily I could just revert back to the quad faces, adjust the mesh and apply the texture again.

However I might not have spotted the mesh issue, saved the file and shut down SU. If I then wanted to change the mesh and unsoften it, I would then end up with unsoftened diagonals running across all of the quads, which would prevent me from reapplying QFT again.

Essentially it would be usefull to have the 'create quads' option from Tig's extrude plugin as a separate tool.

Do you know what I mean?

It's best not to ask those kinds of questions. I did wonder why it felt so late and everyone around me is fading fast.
