As far as I heard from a Googler, they would like to completely overhaul the UI, but don't have the time. If they cannot achieve this, then the chance of porting SketchUp to another toolkit is rather low. Although Google massively applies Linux in its company (Maps developers, streetview etc.), they consider for their products mainly the market share outside the company (whereas the Mac OS X share is mostly a US phenomenon). In the SketchUp Help Forum, there are rapidly increasing requests for a version for iPad, iPhone, but also Android and ChromeOS (?) users demand their rights. I think if Google will ever support another platform, then it would be the web.

When you click on either su v7, or su v8 to start, your system will recall that that as the default su. Because of installing su v8, your system is starting with that version. All you need do is to start up with su v7 for your system to default to su v7 thereafter.

@frascati said: First one is probably really easy. Probably having something to do with the choice to "match color of object in model" button but I can't seem to get it to work. Let's say I fill a panel with a specific color. Later I want to use that exact same shade/texture/etc on another item/panel. So far I have been unable to determine how to do this. Is there some method of 'click' on the color/texture identity and 'paste' that to another entity? Second question... more difficult perhaps.... How do I change all X to Y? If there are 55 items in my file that are colored with shade/texture X, how can I change them all to Y without repainting every individual panel? If you have used a material and want to reuse it then in the Material-Browser pick the 'eyedropper' icon pick the material and paint with it [this is also good for 'copying' any changes to the UV-mapping in a material as the 'sampled' material will retain it's 'Texture' settings]. An alternative to the eye-dropper' is to press Alt and the cursor should change momentarily. If a material is applied to 'raw' faces then in the Materials-Browser hover over the required material and right-click 'Select' to select all active faces with that material. Then pick another material and repaint all selected. Alternatively pick a face and right-click context-menu Select > Same Material to do the same selection and then repaint etc. However, if materials are applied directly onto groups/instances then you need a 'script' - there are several 'global-material-changer' tools available...

I see. It should have been more obvious to me but the problem appearst to be that the "share model" option in my installation is greyed out for some reason. I've gone back to the instructions here.. http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=37939 ...and am doing everything properly. Is it a problem with my installed program or am I missing something? postscript... I found this on the forum and attempted it. The option is still grayed out. @unknownuser said: OK. I've got it working again. In case anyone else has this problem, here's what I did: In WinXP, open control Panel and click to Security Center Click Internet Options. Choose Trusted Sites Click on the Sites Button. Type in the box "http://sketchup.google.com". The click the Add button. It worked for me. Thanks to all, Tom

@frascati said: thank you very much. When I googled "sketchup background color" I arrived at this page... http://download.sketchup.com/OnlineDoc/gsu_mac/F-Model_Settings_and_Managers/Settings-ModelInfo.htm Apparrantly instructions for MAC. Where should I have searched for this info? hm... you stumbled across some very old help info there. The up to date help is reached when you in SketchUp click in Help > Help Center. Which brings you to this URL: http://sketchup.google.com/support/?hl=en

Hi Frascati, hi folks. First, the blue axis is pointing down in your model. Normally, this axis shall point up. Unless you are modeling from under the model. Second, to scale diametrically, use one of the middle handle that are in the corner of the scaling cube. Start scaling, you will see two number in the dimension window. Let go of the mouse and type 7,7 or 7;7, depending on your regional settings. Validate by a press of the RETURN key or the ENTER key. Of course, you can press the CTRL prior while scaling to perform a symmetrical scaling about the center (or the axis) of your fan. Just ideas.

There are simple steps outlined above to print to scale directly from SketchUp but why the heck would you do that if you have SketchUp 2021? It's a whole lot easier to do this with LayOut. In SketchUp, set the camera to Parallel Projection, select the appropriate standard view, zoom extents, and create a scene. Save the file. Open LayOut. Select the desired paper size. Insert the SketchUp model. Set the scale as desired. Drag the edges of the viewport if needed to show the entire model. Print or export to PDF. If you want better quality linework in your output, select either Vector or Hybrid render for the viewport before you export.

Could you bring the text in as a texture (high res .jpeg) to a rectangle with hidden edges, then print?
