I like the first and third one. The third one is the best. I like not seeing the edge of the underlying tin. the morphing strips can become the focal point and the background stays less noticeable but when we see the edge of the larger object then we perceive it as an object and it competes for attention with the squiggly streamers and their shadows. Just my 2 cents.

Fire Ball Fbartels, This is pure awesome. It scares the crap out of me.... I mean really, I've seen this ghost before, when I was young and hooking a summer night at my then girlfriends granddads disintegrating old house. This specter appeared just as your so very cool and frightening apparition here -- all plasma, and weird veins popping out. A bit like that artist Alex Grey... You into that dudes action? I like his paintings a lot, but here is a little video inspired by his work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFnUleNF13o I'll ponder this ghost again. Not sue when I shared about seeing this prankster, but thanks for remembering it, and doing such a great job of realizing my recollections. Durant "I will give up meat today" Hapke

Good point Joe, I really didn't take as close a look at the model as you did. Compound curves would be a nightmare. It is something to address for sure. It would be worth it to look at the plate line and mellow out the curves to make it more reasonable to build. Perhaps reighn it in to undulating curves instead of wild curves. Anything is possible with unlimited time and money but who has that?

Latest Plucky Adventures... The wood half-rounds and balls I ordered from these folks (http://www.craftparts.com/) arrived, as did some 17" heavy-duty cable ties. I put together two hubs and an edge section last night and it looks/feels pretty good. I hope to do some additional work with the pieces this weekend. As I've been working with this stuff I keep thinking that a similar structural system could be implemented using bamboo in place of the PVC, and hemp rope in place of the plastic wire ties. This would give you a completely organic structural system, using materials that would require only simple and low-energy processing and that are locally available (growable) in most of the world. Interesting. [image: UYQP_IMG_4689.jpg] [image: VOlU_IMG_4691.jpg]

Fred, That first group is growing on me now....so I think you may be right about the texture not being the problem. Plus - I would love to have a little 1' high solid model of the "dinosaur rib cage" sculpture on my desktop! I would promise to turn it slightly every day so I would be able to peer into it from a different persective. Bytor

More on the sliding corrigated panel "windows." I put windows in quotation marks to indicate that these are very untraditional windows. The first image shows all the non-moving pieces. These would all be attached to side panels which are not shown. The box has screening on the outside and slats for safety. [image: corrugated%20sheet%20tests%201.jpg] The second image includes the piece of corrugated panel that would slide up and down and be held in place by fitting into groves on the side panels. [image: corrugated%20sheet%20tests%202.jpg] To make all of this crystal clear there is a movie here that shows the window in action. Finally, I've attached the SketchUp file so you can test it yourself. Fred corrugated sheet test.skp

Fred, what about the foam used to seal waterfalls and fountains? I know it doesn't have a ton of give, since it has to resist settling boulders.

Latest developments... I injected the foam yesterday evening and the results are good but not great. The essential problem is that the cured foam is not dense enough and compresses under pressure, which in turn allows the whole structure to deflect heavily. The good news is that the honeycomb structure is quite strong even given this. I layed a 1/16" plastic sheet on top of the honeycomb and inched my (210 lbs) way out to the center of the triangle (see image below) and although the surface deflected it held up and recovered nicely after I stepped off. The foam, in addition to being structurally inadequate, is very hard to control. I'm looking for alternative materials to use in the interstices between the PVC sections. I'm leaning towards trying epoxy next but am open to other suggestions. An ideal material would be inexpensive, easy to apply, and cure really hard. BTW, I also learned not to over tighten the wire ties before injecting the foam as it makes it very hard to form the honeycomb into curves. Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. The model was fun to make but the 2nd floor interior walls and windows got a little tedious toward the end. I do like how the stairs turned out. I wanted to use TINs for the walls but they don't work well for heavily curved walls with thickness. Instead I used follow-me to drive the curved profiles along curved paths and then did some tweaking with the rotate tool. The model - which the warehouse wouldn't load - is available here at the bottom of the page. I do not plan to render it but would love to see it rendered if someone feels like giving it a shot. Regarding how to build the walls. I've given that some thought. I think an approach that might work is to build them up layer by layer about 6" a pour using a flexible thick but bendable plastic mold. One of these days I'll put together a SketchUp model of the jig I have in mind. Fred
