that strange custom is actually quite widespread. and, thankfully, it has nothing to do with crime. it is just a way to take purses out of people's laps or from the table. briefcases and notebooks usually go to the same chair. but of course it works better indoors than outdoors, where it would be easy to grab something and run (but this could happen in rome too).

i had a very good day yesterday. lots of phone calls, a cake at the office brought by the 3 students who work with me and dinner with my mrs.
my wife is great at planning this kind of thing, anything becomes a continuous party. check this sequence: surprise gifts, cake at the office, dinner at an indian restaurant, lunch for the family today (overrated, I agree, but still around) and lunch for a couple of friends tomorrow. is not that something?
about the overpopulation remark, we still do not feel overcrwded as brasil is a huge country with many unpopulated areas. but if the rate of reproduction is not lowered we will soon be up there with the chinese.
my country is the proverbial "country of the future". the only problem is that the future never comes and it keeps being a potential country that never becomes a reality.

very nice. the only thing i do not like is the textured finish for the jacobsen chairs. i would do them in a solid color. the present finish distracts from the general effect. otherwise, great.

the solution for that would be for the old threads to inform their original date when transfered but there are so many steps in the transfer procedure already that people almost never do that.
i know it is a little confusing to find your old topics coming afloat but this should end soon.
as far as i am concerned, this is a forum for SU users not necessarily pro users. i was a "free" user for most of the time, until i felt the need to export my models in different formats.
welcome aboard (the expression is very appropriate to you, is it not) and have fun. you will learn a lot from the people in the forum.

I think it is safe to update your version of SketchUp. I'm running the latest on my Mac with Tiger and am not having any new problems.
no wireless connections on. my connection to the internet is via ethernet and it has always been, since i started using SUp.
i updated to version 6.4.120 but nothing changed: startup is still very slow and the license keeps expiring.
I would like to take this opportunity to say something i realized a couple of weeks ago: SU brought back the pleasure i always felt drawing and designing by hand, in the pre-computer days.
i studied architecture in the 70's (yes, in another century, young turks) and people used to say i was a good draftsman. i had real fun drawing with tracing paper, rulers, pencil, china and the like.
my sketches are ok so i developed a design method (for my own use, that is) that consists of going back and forth between free-hand dwgs and the computer, usually vectorworks. an unbalanced method as most of the fun, if not all, was on the free-hand side of it.
not any more. so much so that my partner/wife nags me at times for getting too much into the SU dwgs and forgetting other aspects of the design itself.
i am glad i am not alone in this.

this is what i got. no problem. must say at first there where a couple of big squares showing on the top part, but the image was clearly visible. to get rid of the squares i just opened and closed the group.

On the other hand, the post you are quoting was about a link not wholly visible (some ... was inserted instead of the entire link) which is due tothe forum software being smart enough to display only as long of an url as long there can fit in - and add the rest to it when you click. Certainly there are some browser that misinterpret these "shortened" URL-s and does not work well. That's what the above method is for.

i hardly understood your second paragraph. let me say two more things.
i should have said that putting the URL between brackets works for email messages. i am not sure about the forum software. perhaps just using what the forum software offers is a good idea but the URL remains huge.
however, the short URL works perfectly with the forum software. and never mind TinyURL, it was just an example: there are many other sites like that. in case it is not working or it goes out of business, just go to another one.
first of all, I am not sure this is the right place for the topic so please moderators feel free to move it around.
in another posting seen by me today our friend gai was complaining of a broken link (URL) posted by some other member. well, I had this problem too until I came across a short arcticle in macworld (may 2007, pg. 82). the problem is basically this: someone includes a lonng URL in a message but it does not work when the recipent clicks on it.
there are at least 2 ways to fix the problem:
what i did is very simple. as i have the TinyURL.com link on my personal toolbar in firefox, while on the site i wish to refer to, i just click on that link and that takes me to TinyURL.com. getting there the short link is already awaiting me. all i have to do is paste it on the message i want to send.
hope this tip is of some help to you all.
