thanks, santiago. gracias.
i've installed vlc and also found out that the missing codec was ensharpen, which i downloaded and istalled. everything is in order now.
saludos.

i wish the offended software would tell me which codec i need!
dear fellow mac users,
i have been using a new imac intel for almost 2 months. even tough quicktime is properly installed very frequently when i try to watch a video (either stream or downloaded) i get a message saying there is a component missing in my quicktime installation. usually I am directed to apple's support where i find a bunch of components for QT.
the problem is: how do i know which component i need? i downloaded a few but it did not solve the problem.
does nayone know the answer for this?
edson
mike,
would you care to tell us how is your try with bootcamp going? i have been considering installing it in order to try out apps like kerkythea and the like. somehow i am afraid of doing it because of viruses.
regards.
edson

Thanks for sharing, Edson.
That's cool that you enjoy your work so much. Not everyone gets that. I think I would enjoy the small practice scene. I would like freedom and variety in my work.
I am sure one can make things come about in one's life, whithin certain limits. it is a question of paving your way to do what you want to do.
freedom is a hard thing to come by in architectural practice, as there will always be clients. but you can be free from too much pressure, disagreable clients, and the like. variety can be found if you participate in competitions. you may even eventually win one.
cheers.

hi nick and everybody,
I got interested in architecture by watching my older sister go through architectural school. while I was a student at the public university in my home town I worked as a draftsman for some architects but mainly for my sister (a clear case of exploiting one's relative, hehe...).
after graduating I went abroad and studied 2 years in london (at the AA) and then 3 more in philadelphia, at penn.
coming back home I became a professor at the same school I graduated from (where I still teach) and started my small practice. my teaching job, apart from being something I enjoy doing and something that demands that I keep growing all the time, allows me to take only the design jobs that really interest me, and to take part in competitions as a way of developing my design and drawing skills.
nowadays my practice is still small but it became a two-people studio as my wife joined me a couple years ago. the good thing about running a small practice is to be able to really get into the projects I do, and also being able to do most of the drawings myself, which I enjoy enourmously even since everything was done by hand.
as I am not after the big bucks, I truly enjoy my work and almost everything that surrounds it. this forum included, of course, for the chance to get in touch with so many interesting and interested people.
hi girls,
interesting topic indeed. i have four boys (26, 24,17 and 12); the two oldest ones are out of my direct influence (the oldest lives in london).
i see this kind of education as educating one's kids for life outside our home. it is a way of showing them you must live with other people, and this means sharing chores and being as little egotistical as possible. it has to do with thinking about others, with putting yourself in other people's place.
one big problem is that, as we live in a region where there are still many poor people, it is almost inevitable to have a maid who does the basic chores like cooking (from monday to friday), cleaning and doing the laundry. it is fairly cheap and it does not make any sense not to have one.
this being said, there is a series of things i try to get my kids to do.
all in all, even considering the economic and cultural differences between countries, this aspect of our lives is quite similar, do you not think so?
cheers.
happy birthday, glenn. enjoy your day.
edson
i was never asked to, since what they buy from is the design, not the illustration.
john,
I was raised to think that displaying good manners everywhere is a way to show respect for other people. it does not seem to be that popular anymore as we are all the time confronted with behaviour like you described, plus people speaking loudly on their cell phones (as if you had to take part in their private life), and stuff like that.
not old fashioned, perhaps not in synch with the rough times we are going through.
best wishes.

hi kwisten,
great work indeed.
i had seen this bathroom on PPB2 and had even saved the pictures, as well as from a great kitchen you posted there.
cheers,
this is great stuff, mateo. the straight SU material looks really good. what did you use for the first 3 images? some style? another application after SU?
cheers.
legal, fernando.
i have not upgraded yet. too soon. i will wait until i hear no more complaints about applications not running ok.
welcome, andy
you will soon find out that this is a very warm place indeed.
from rainy and humid porto alegre, brasil.

nice topic. it allows one to know what people do besides SU.
as for myself, in an ideal week I work out 3 days and run 40 minutes another 3 days, resting on the 7th as the bible tells us to do. it not always works that way, as rain, workload, or an occasional trip get in the way. I enjoy doing it as it keeps me in shape for all the sitting hours at the computer but am not a fanatic for it. if I can do it, great; if not, is ok too.
have fun.
shaun and alan,
my best wishes to you both. peace and health is all we need to go after the things that matter to us.
on the 24th there was also a birthday celebration at my home/studio, as pep, my labrador, turned 4. hope you do not mind my bringing this up as our pet is much loved by all. could he work on a computer he would for sure be an SU buff and would appreciate the work you do.
