I think it might be worth looking at Trimble connect in your case. The idea is using the cloud to sync models. You can give him a component or a global project to manage and sync parts of the model or the whole model: https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/trimble-connect-sketchup

It starts to be a real issue. I experienced this in a bunch of diffrent projects on several PC's (win 7,10 x64) SU2018 fails to perform autosave (no matter it's office server or local drives). I have a series of unreadable .tmp files (approx. 1/4 of original file size). 'Save as'\purging\saving in previos version won't help. The only workaround (if you are lucky not to miss the moment the mess with tmps has begun)is to copy-paste portion by portion to a blank file. A side observetion: all those files had a number of acad drawings for reference. It never bben an issue in last decade though.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I decided to create layers for the section planes that can be turned on and off. FYI, the model I'm working has many rotated angles and the section planes seem to obscure things because they are not parallel or perpendicular to other section planes. Doug

My current settings are: Length snapping on (0.100000mm) / precision 0.000000mm Angle snapping at 15 degrees / precision 0.0 (just FYI) Your procedure seems to be correct. Sometimes you need to rotate way out of line and redo the rotation to get it "spot on". Why/when? If you failed the first time and got is almost correct. Then you cannot rotate that last little correction. Maybe this is what happened in your situation. Same thing can happen with moving geometry in certain occasions. p.s. have you checked the drawing axes orientation and their origin compared to the systems axes and origin?

Dave and Chris - I'll use your suggestions. It sure would be nice if you could simply modify the world origin in a manner similar to the axes. Thanks for your help! Doug

Doug, just create your scenes with geometry actively viewed as needed then bring into Layout. KEY: make sure you have background ground, sky OFF so only the model shows. From there make a copy of each scene and 'Arrange them as you want to view them. ie: stack the views to show one behind the other... I think that's what you want to do, yeah?

I'd have the 'site' as a model - with nothing inserted into it. I'd have several site-option models: these would each have the 'site' inserted as a site-component. If you change the 'site' in its original model file you can then reload the site-component in any of the site-option models and it updates. If you change the site-component within a site-option model do not export it back out and overwrite the original 'site' UNLESS this change affects every option [at which point all option users must reload it to be in step] - if it's an option specific change then you must leave as it is in the site-option model and then remember never to update it from the external 'site' model again - you could of course then export an option version of the site if required. For each site-option you'll have a number of building models etc which are also external model files. You'd insert them into the appropriate option-site model as components. If you edit any of these in their original model files you can reload them into the appropriate site-option model. If you change the component within a site-option model AND it is a permanent change then export it back and overwrite the original [you could always make a backup copy of the earlier version first, in case you want to 'revert' later on]. You cannot have the site inserted into a building model because a reload of it into another model will bring the site with it - however, you can change building component within the site-option model and export it, them reload into another file... At its extreme you could have a site-option model for each site option version for each building [the other building would be inserted for context but never edited] - you edit the ONE building component and export it - a central site-option model would have all such building models inserted as components and reloading them will update all into this central site-option... All of this is pretty complex and needs to have a written document so users understand what they are doing and can do - unfortunately it's impossible to legislate for someone accidentally updating the wrong component in the wrong model and exporting it, overwriting something and reloading it elsewhere.... Setting it up this way separates both the 'site' and the 'building' models for the options but needs some pre-planning...

@unknownuser said: Forgive me ..I am not a Mac user...I should probably just shut up but... In our office we just access the library we need on the company shared drive directly through the component/material browser/dialogue....nothing special to do at all. We pick up materials and create our own folders for materials where ever. ....see I told you I should shut up!! Thanks for your response - no need to shut up! You would think that the method you describe would work on a Mac, but, unfortunately, it does not. For some reason, the Mac version of the Sketchup material palette/browser does not allow you to choose the destination of newly created the folders, and won't allow you to browse for external material sources. It IS possible with the Mac version to create shared Component Libraries. Why? I don't know. Again, Thanks anyway. Anyone else have ideas about this? Doug

Not that I know of, but someone else might. But what you can do is install the film and stage plugin, then create cameras at each scene. Then copy and paste those cameras into other models as needed. That works pretty good as a workaround. Chris
