AutoCAD users! Can you......
Hello All...
In AutoCad is there such a function to turn text into lines (as there is in illustrator) so we Sketchup users can read it ?A client is revamping their .DWG files, mainly due to all the designers that use them use sketchup and they are constantly exasperated at the lose of text for important information. They will be embracing sketchup soon they say.
I have said to them that if they turn all their text to lines I can then produce a .skp for them. I hope they can. Is there anything i should know (other than, is this possible?) maybe dimensions can't be turned into text....
I'd like to hand back to them a relatively indistinguishable sketchup version with all their information readable with dimensions. do you think this is do-ble? These files are used mainly as reference and designers designs placed over the top, then printed.
I am fully and totally ignorant of the ways of Autocad ....

.DWG Headaches
Hello All
I have a .dwg given to me to place my model over the top.
there is text information on there that i need and i know that sketchup doesn't read this natively unless its been turned into lines - in the past i've taken the .dwg file into Adobe illustrator and converted type to lines and then imported into sketchup. i need to have a dwg as my output file.
please help me as i'm struggling. sketchup is crashing every time i do this.
the exported dwg out of illustrator is 7.3mb when it goes in its 1.3mb - Is 7.3 just too much?
Is there something i can do in Adobe Illustrator?
Is there a pdf way? could I save it as a certain kind of pdf then do the same import to sketchup and out again to .dwgany help on how i could proceed or point a thread my way would really be helping me?
Thanks for looking

RE: CAMERA = HUMAN EYE
thanks for the info dave, 180 seems a lot? most of that is periphery vision so hence the distortion, is that right?
so I go less to lessen this distortion. to something like 50 field of view, the 'seems' ok - is there a right and wrong? obviously there is - we don't see in parallel projection or like a rabbit, 360.

CAMERA = HUMAN EYE
hello all
I have to place a camera in a stadium seat and show a client what that person would see as its partly obstructed.
I'm sure that one of you guys has done this before and i'm intrested in knowing what angle you put or would put the camera.
cheers

RE: SU Mac slow response
I found that my keyboard was unresponsive but i then noticed that my cursor was active in the VCB or another input window - its not that is it?
That was a d'oh moment for me -
RE: Mac pc differences- AGAIN
Something i need to also understand is the difference in saving
The file names change sometimes
exampledoc1.skp is what i opened
gets changed to 0.skp
then 1.skp
for the most recent......whys this?

RE: Poll on ways people use SketchUp
As a set designer I'd say that having a option of "set, prop and vehicle design" are all very different things and I for one have never designed a car! Great to see so many different disciplines being catered for by one great bit of software. Please Trimble be kind and not forget about the non-architectural user base.

ahhh.... ok
takes a bit of getting used to but there we go .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_document_interface
ps - plugins certainly work better on a PC.

Mac pc differences- AGAIN
Hello All
Can someone help me understand the differences when opening a new SU window on a pc than on a Mac. I've used a Mac for ages but recently I've started using a pc.
when i open a new window on the Mac, Sketchup opens window after window. when i open a new window on the Pc it shuts the previous window and open a new one.To get multiple windows open - i open an existing project using windows explorer, and can have multiple projects going, but as soon as i want a fresh window, it will close what i am working on
(file-Open or CTRL+O)So using explorer is the only way - enlighten me sketchucation!!

RE: [Plugin] Another Sketchup Plus update v1.5.4 Dec 29 2012
I'm off on holiday for a couple of weeks, sorry. Maybe when I return. The latest info tells me more about how your plugin works I understand a bit more. You really need to do a video to get a full understanding.

RE: Selection idea or does this exist??
So I've checked out the Tgi3d plugin.
Sort of does what i require. the difference being that i was hoping for incremental selection using the arrow keys, i know realise how i should have explained it sorry.
so it would go
1 select a line
2 select a direction
3 use arrow keys to select how much of that segmented line you needthe tgi3d plugin does all the line in one go up to a border or a junction, so there might be use in my way
