Amazing! Really Really good. A great companion to this is "Layers Panel" - photoshop layers window with nested layers. still in Beta and some wrinkles to iron out but, Like this plugin, very impressive!!

All i could say on a negative - could we have a smaller window? it takes up alot of space and we know the name of it, if we lost the logo (sorry), at least i'd get back half my screen.

Thats it- it was an old layer. The reason i was changing it was to give it a capital letter, I started out with non-capitalised layer names......

I didn't see but this isn't the fist time this has happened so will keep a better note next time.

I'm having issues with renaming layers - only some though others work fine.

deleting layer and starting again this dosen't happen - I can rename again

(i didn't have to make a video for this but I've never done it, so there you go....)

before the major bugsplat I was trying to create new scenes outliner could have been open. When i pressed P no scene tabs appeared which drew my attention
then i opened the 'Scenes window' and noticed the scenes were there - but as i said no scene Tabs at the top of the SU Window. Then the crash

I have another one for you....

With the layer Panel open I can't use my shortcut key 'P' assigned to Create new scene. Turn panel off and shortcut key works as it should.

Does that happen for anyone else?

In the model I'm using i have a lot of layers going on. I've just had a major bug splat too, thankfully no lost data or corrupted files. on opening the the file again after the bugsplat, the bugsplat happened again and again - straight away before SU seemed to even open - restarted Machine seems Ok- File opened as Usual

Hello, Since mastering shortcuts (not only in SU but all Programs) my speed/productivity has dramatically increased. I always like to see a plugin that makes SU easier to use, 'Layers Panel' being a great example of the moment.

I dabbled in Maya a few years ago, and one great thing was the hot box which i used all the time instead of the menus at the top.

I'm sure there are other examples of this in other programs

In Maya its invoked similar to right clicking but with space bar
and the options are as in the picture - basically all the pull down menus where accessible

My Idea would be for something similar for SU

Ultimately it would be customisable
A shortcut key would invoke a menu (or HUD?) of commands and, on rolling over a word - customised submenus appear- or the plugin/tool is put into action

You might say this is Right Click? well it is but its your right click and, if you have different hot keys for different menus you have a set of commands wherever you are on the screen no need to search your toolbars or leave the location of where your working.

What do you think? ergonomic or waste of time?
Could free up a lot of unnecessary toolbar space

everything was working well (the group names was the only thing) I was working inside a group outliner was open and then i got the bugsplat. I dont normally get bugsplats so its funny.
I didn't uninstall or do anything witht the plugin.

did you mean to uninstall it and try opening the files? as I've tried opening themon my Mac (no "Layers {abel" plugin) and still not luck - It happened on my pc

opening .skb and .skp result with Unexpected file format.

I've just had a bugsplat - was it from this plugin? its new on my computer..... also new, the latest version of su was downloaded this morning

the major thing is i can't open the file now. "unexpected file format"!!!! Any Help?

Yes i restarted - they didn't appear right away! they appeared after i'd worked on the model for a bit. then i noticed. I'll keep my eyes open when next time the occasion crops up.

Great to see this Plugin. especially the "add layer visible only in this scene" - touch!!

This plugin is really good. And intuitive. maybe because its so familiar (pShop)

I am losing my group names. no data lost but its happened a couple of times.
I'm looking out for the next time and will report ..

EDIT: every time i use "undo" the layer Group Name reverts back to the "Group1"- its original default name.
Anybody confirm this???
(all layer names within group stay the same)

this looks like a really good addition to sketchup.

but - existing layers don't show up. downloaded plugin mid project.

using latest sketchup and latest version of Layers panel. Windows.

EDIT: I'm not sure what happened but the layers have now appeared - it could have coincided with me importing an image but not sure

since posting I wasn't aware I could alter the spotlight component but hey you can - see attached
so
this certainly makes life easier. maybe there still an improvement - you still have to set the rotation one axis at a time - maybe theres a way to bypass this and target a location - so click the light source click the other end of your cone (the way the direction of the light is going) then click a face/place/endpoint in your model
that would be great!!

I know SUpodium used to have something like that

I would like to rotate a group or Component not around their centre. Is there a way or plugin that will do this?

I have a spotlight component that comes in Thea Render. It's cone shaped and the light source is at one end. when using regular SU tool, it rotates the light source around the centre when i want the rotation point at the light source. (ideally i'd like to target it to a point of my choice, but I might be asking for too much)

any help much appreciated

Visual outliner or Outliner Viewport

does something like this exist? or is it feasible? is it needed?

I think it would be a great help and encourage people to use the outliner more. shifting groups using the outliner is a bit clunky and is such a time saver.

How it would possibly work;
enter into plugin/ext
the viewport displays all the groups' boundary boxes
by hovering over a box the name of it is it is displayed - this is editable
send to option - send to group/comp - send to top - send to ? (any suggestions)

comments, suggestions or shoot it out of the sky? all welcome

Thea render also can do flythroughs with thea4su and a plugin. It's fast too.
